Chapter Two

A/N: Hey people!! I know in the prologue it says that Mona moved away, but I decided for her to stay with Lei, and just be out all the time. Also, I love Echosmith by the way, as it mentions it in the story! Enjoy!

"I don't understand, Lei. Why won't you talk to me?" He asked, cocking his head to the side.

"Because I don't wanna talk, okay?!" I crossed my arms.

He pushed me against a wall and put his arms on either sides of me. "Then don't speak. We both won't."

He leaned in and--

"Ahhhhhh!" I screamed, sitting up. I let out a sigh in relief when it was just a dream. No, a nightmare. I swung my legs over the bed, and pushed myself up. When I checked the clock, it read: 7:05am. Ugh, splitting headache. Must. Take. Tylenol.

Right when I was about to open the door, Mona burst inside. "What the hell happened, Lei?! I heard screaming!" Are you alright?" she rubbed my shoulders frantically.

"I'm fine just a bad dream," I sighed, "I dreamt that...that...you-know-who and I...kissed."

Mona gasped in horror;not one trace of sarcasm. "That bad, huh?"

I nodded. I can't believe I had a nightmare about my worst enemy and I...kissing. These nightmares are getting worse! He's in almost every single one of them! That had to be the worst. I'm so glad I moved away when I did.

Changing the subject, I asked Mona where the others were. "Oh they've been up. Not that long though. I mailed out those packets, by the way."

"Oh cool! So, what are we doing today?" I asked.

Mona yawned, "Well, your parents said that you have some dinner with new neighbors. I won't be home until ten, so I'm mist likely gonna miss out. I'm going to an Echosmith concert!"

Ugh, Echosmith. I still don't know why Mona even likes that band.

By the disgusted look on my face, Mona nudged my shoulder. "Hey! They're a great band! There's something wrong with you, Lei."

* * *

"Bye guys!" Mona, Sophie, and I waved to everyone else. Sophie and Mona were going to the concert while I got the chance to have dinner with the new neighbors. I was so excited to see who was across the street from us.

"Okay, Lei, I'll see you soon! Camp, remember?" Sophie smiled.

"Yea! Have fun at the lame concert," I laughed as I hugged her.

Both Sophie and Mona glared playful daggers at me, and we all laughed. "Have fun at the lame dinner!" Mona snickered as her and Sophia walked to the car.

I stuck my tongue out and walked inside.

"Leighla, your father and I invited the new neighbors to dinner, so dress up," my mom said from the kitchen as I strolled by.

"I know, mother. Have you met them yet?" I questioned.

"No, but now that you mention it, they look vaguely familiar! I only saw them from across the street, so I don't know."

I stared at her, then shrugged. "I guess we'll find out," I smiled.

Once I finished polishing my nails red, I ran upstairs to put on something for tonight. I opened my closet and started tossing a bunch of clothes on the ground.

"No, too sexy, no, too childish, no too... wait a minute, this is perfect!" I held out a crimson silk one-sleeve I bought last month. It was long and formal, but not too formal.

I put on my black flats and curled my blonde hair. For my makeup, I went with just mascara and eyeliner to make my gray eyes pop.

When I checked the time, it was already 7:30. My dad called me down to set the table. I was so excited for the new neighbors to come, because I really needed to make some new friends in this neighborhood. Even though Mona and I live together, she's always out, so I've been a little lonely.

That's why I'm excited that the new neighbors have a son the same age as me.

I started thinking deeply about what this person looked like.

"Leighla. Leighla! Hello?" my dad yelled. His voice startled me out if my thoughts.

"Yea?" I asked, breathless.

"Your hand is about to go into the lasagna," he grimaced.

When I looked down, my hand was covered in cheese. I yanked it away and scurried to the kitchen sink to rinse the slimy cheddar cheese off.

"Leighla, I need to talk to you," dad said in a stern voice. There are two reasons to that intimidating voice:

1) The "talk", because the new neighbors have a son.

2) The "talk".

I hesitated to go over to where he was sitting, but he ushered me over there.

"Now, I've seen the neighbors' son, and he's quite the handsome fellow. He looks like he could even be an ass--"

"Dad!"

"Sorry. Now you know not to do anything, right?" he scolded.

"Yes, dad, I won't fall for his 'cute, but mystifying ways'," I sighed as I put up air quotes.

"Am I that predictable?" he laughed.

I nodded, and we hugged. "That's my Lei."

My mom walked into the decorated dining room with trays of food in her hands, and glared at us. "Sorry to ruin the family moment, but I need some help here. The neighbors will be here in ten minutes."

"Sorry, Mom," I grinned sheepishly.

I grabbed the trays from her to get the job done faster.

By the time we finished setting the table, the doorbell rang. "I GOT IT!" I screamed when I sped-walked to the front door.

I panted and straightened my dress. I cleared my throat, and opened the door.

To my horror, the green-eyed devil I'd never thought I'd see again spoke. "Hel-lo, neighbor," he smiled.

That's when I slammed the door in his face.

"What the hell is he doing here?!" I whisper-shouted to myself. My right hand started to hurt, and when I looked over, I noticed that my knuckles were white from gripping the doorknob too hard.

"Leighla, are the Hemingway's inside?" my mother shouted from the dining room.

I stormed over to her and put my hands on my hips. "Why are they here?!" I asked my mom. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks.

"Did you slam the door in their faces?" she asked, ignoring the question. Once she realized what I did, she gritted, "Open the door, now." She gave me "the look".

I sighed, and sulked my way back over to the door.

When I opened it again, Blake Hemingway was leaning against the door frame. "That wasn't very nice, Lei," he smirked, "Even though you were pretty excited to see me, because I heard you shouting."

I scoffed and slammed the door in his handsome, but evil face again.

* * *

"Renée! Oh my gosh it's been too long!" Mr. and Mrs. Hemmingway gushed. They all exchanged hugs while Blake and I glared daggers at each other.

"Come in, make yourself sat home!" Mom squealed. Once the parents shuffled to the dining room, all who were left was Blake and me. Blake (having the audacity) smiled at me. But it was a genuine smile. What the hell?!

I rolled my eyes and walked off to the dining room without any acknowledgement.

Once we settled in and ate our dinner, Mom asked Blake, "So Blake, honey, how was the move for you? Must've been hard for your age."

I tried kicking her to get her to shut up, but I must've hit a chair instead. "Oh, it actually wasn't that--bad, Mrs. Parks," Blake smiled after kicking me hard on the shin. I winced quietly, and snapped my head over to his smug face. Of course, Mom and dad were so absorbed into their conversations about football and shoe shopping, that they didn't notice us.

"Stop kicking me, dammit!" I whisper-grunted as I punched his prized jewels.

Just when his fist was about to connect with my left boob, I stood up quickly, taking the blow to my hip. It didn't hurt, but I had to get out if there, before it did. The sudden and loud movement made everyone freeze. Almost literally. Mom's hands were stuff in the air when she looked at me, and Mr. Hemingway had his mouth open like he was about to say something.

I cleared my throat softly and asked, "May I be excused?"

"Ub--er--sure sweetie," dad stammered, "show Blake your room! Just no funny buisness!"

"DAD!!" I screamed like a 10 year old as I stomped upstairs, with Blake following closely behind, laughing.

As I went up the stairs, I looked back. "What the hell do you want?" Once I saw his smirk, I groaned, and made a run for it to my room. I swear, we really acted like little kids when we were around each other.

"Hey, wait!" Blake ran to catch up with me. I made it to my room just in time, and pushed my body against the door. Damn, no lock. I'll just have to use my poor strength.

Blake's sudden push at the door startled me, and I shoved it closed again. Then silence. I let out a sigh of relief and opened the door. Huge mistake.

"Haha, sucker-- AAHH!!" I screamed as I got tackled to the ground. Eww, Blake was on top of me. "Get off me, you--"

"Shhhhhhh," Blake shushed as he clamped his hand over my mouth. He rolled off of me and laughed.

"Jerk."

I dusted myself off and glared at Blake while he was cracking up. Once he composed himself, he sat on my bed. He patted a spot next to him, which of course I declined. "Why the hell are you so nice all of a sudden? Huh? Did you grow up? I'm still not forgiving you for what you did," I gritted through my teeth.

"Are you seriously still mad about that, Lei?" Blake chuckled, "You haven't changed a bit."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!"

"It means you're still the bitch you were 5 years ago. That's what it means."

For what seemed like forever of us glaring daggers at each other, Mom opened the door. Am I interrupt--oh."

Mom stared at us. Then she rolled her eyes. "Ugh, I can literally feel the heat between you guys. C'mon, let's go downstairs. Blake, your parents are waiting."

As Blake passed by, he shoved me with his shoulder.

*Flashback*

"Leighla, Blake's here to see you!" dad yelled.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head as I grabbed my backpack for school. "What?" I growled when I swung open the door.

"Hello to you too, Lei. C'mon, we're going to school."

I scoffed. "Would you just leave me alone? Stupid jerk."

I walked as fast as I could to Delker Middle School across the street. It was almost the end of my eighth grade year, and the summer dance was coming up. I'd already had a date; Darren Jackman. He was sadly Blake's best friend, but way nicer and, at the time, a little cuter.

Blake and I were always enemies. We met when we were 6, but we automatically hated each other. We tried to be friends, but it never worked out at all. Now, here I was, walking to middle school with him following me behind.

He ran in front of me and stopped me in my tracks. "Don't go out with Darren tonight! He's my best friend, and you are a...a..."

"A what?"

Blake finally smiled mischievously and ran to the school. I thought it was weird, but shrugged it off, and continued to school.

Once the bell rang, and everyone was in their seats, the morning announcements started.

"Gooooood morning, Delker Middle! It's Blake Hemingway with the morning announcements..."

"Oh. No." I said to myself. How did he...Claire. Claire was of course the student body president, and unfortunately had the biggest crush on Blake. That basically explains how he got to do the announcements.

I got up out of my seat, and snuck out the door to the Student Body's Office.

"Crap. Crap, crap crap." I shuffled to stop him, but right when I opened the door...

"...Let's give a big, fat round of applause to my best friend's date to the dance...Miss Leighla Parks! Also known as, 'The conniving BITCH who stole my best friend!'"

I stood there, shocked. Blake had just said his first curse word. On the INTERCOM. He looked over at me, and smirked.

I ended up walking back to the classroom, and all of the students stared at me. Blake Hemingway was so dead.

*End of Flashback*

* * *

Blake ended up getting two weeks of detention, but only his dad knew about it. I didn't go to the dance because Blake fed Darren lies about me. My parents never found out, but I knew I was gonna get revenge sooner or later.

I soon moved during the summer, relieved of him. But guess what?! They're baaaaaack!
