Chapter 75

The program, agency, company, thing?... obviously you can see that I have no experience in this sort of thing, so I called the thing, asking exactly that. Asking if spots were open, all bubbling up nervously as I put my phone to my ear, standing near my bed as the anxiety crinkled in, swaying side to side, so unlike me and I didn't like having this habit grow on me.

So, I coughed out confidently before continuing, of course it didn't really work because I still sounded unsure and then all that came in return was a cheerful voice, surprising me with it's kindness, so unlike how I've seen happen in the movies with their usual rude comments and snappy judgement, instead she answered all my worries, washing them away as she made clear when classes would start and that it was okay to be inexperienced.

As the call disconnected, eyes wide at first, not believing I just did that, and as it settled, I felt content, smiling sheepishly as I tried to contain my excitement, the phone still clutched in my hand, I couldn't keep it in any longer and I giggled in glee, yelping as I jumped off the floor.

~~~~~~~~
I knocked on the door.
"Uh, hello?" I asked as I entered, backpack strap clutched, wrapped around my shoulder, the fabric tight against my fingers as I kept it close.
Nervous as I crept into the room, all the way here, and in my new car if I may add, I was imagining a big disappointment and nothing too spectacular my way and at the end to just be the rip off as expected. Instead, the second I walked into the office, the room, company walls, I was welcomed with the bright light of the sun, the large window surrounding the room made it all the more charming as the glass walls shimmered with the sun.
I chuckled out a smile of surprise, feeling more relaxed than before by the embrace of the light this room brought.
Taking everything in, I turned to the side, facing the register with a big light brown counter circling around the woman at the desk, the brown color clearly recently waxed and polished as it shinned along with the sun. Everything seemed cozy with the brown furniture and dancing frames on the wall behind the woman's desks.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The woman asked, voice chirping as she welcomed me with her sweet and kind voice, making me yet again feel more at ease.
I smiled nervously at her and her smile grew in kindness yet again, the smile crinkling up her cheeks.
I shrugged my shoulders up, my backpack strap still tight against my fingers and shoulders as I nervously chuckled.
What's wrong with me?
I never do this!
I'm the confidence bad bitch, remember?!- I tried to remind myself.
Apparently, the lack of experience when it came to the arts and how passionate I am with it, drawn too it even with no knowledge, that keeping my somewhat talent locked in just makes it that much harder to accept it and harder to be confident to walk into a studio as gorgeous as this.
There it! Studio! That's the word, see, I'm not so hopeless after all!
With that thought, my smile grew, less nervous, maybe still is a bit embarrassed by how long I'm making her wait for my answer, but beside that, my expression looked more natural.
Before I could answer, the door to my left, the studio door, opened.
The light brown door bulged open with a boom, everything looking ancient and modern at the same time. The wall beside me wasn't a wall, it was merely glass, a wall of glass that surrounded the dance studio, mirrors showing off the students inside and the teacher instructing inside the glass room.
As I finally got a real look at the whole place, spotting outside, the gorgeous autumn sunset, orange and yellow sprayed into the sky, I took notice of the door opening, patterns carved into the interior, making ever piece of this place look like it was made with love.
My eyes widened, seeing all this, and especially when I spotted the woman walking out of it.
The woman's black leggings and grey work out shirt stuck to her skin, showing off her built and her brown hair flowed down her shoulders, mixes of blonde streaks here and there flowing with the brown. A mug in her hand, a red bag in the other, wrapped around her shoulder, she smiled when she noticed me. Her face squishing up with her checks high in a happy grin, it looked natural on her skin, wrinkled up with her smile yet young when she relaxed it down.
"What can I do for you miss?" The woman at the desk wondered, bringing me back to the moment at hand, zapping me away from the attractive woman.
"Uh, uh, I-" I began, sputtering as I try to adjust myself from the recent distraction of the studio and woman.
"Oh, it's okay, she's with me," the woman from the door interrupted, stopping my fuss of words. I turned my attention back to her in surprise, clearly confused by her remark.
She began to explain with another smile, rosy checks turning up once more, crinkling eyes above and her old skin showing more in the reflection of the sun,"You called yesterday right?" She asked.
I managed a stunned nod.
"Ya, she called yesterday," she informed the desk lady, secretary maybe, the woman's sunglasses pointing at her.
"Oh, yes," the woman at the desk recalled, nodding back at me.
Silence followed as they just stared at me and I felt awfully naked by their looks, that my eyes widened once more.
"Oh, I didn't answer the phone, she did of course, she's my second hand," the woman standing by the door, still, informed, reading my mind full of questions as I observed a tint of a British accent, a bit washed out though, maybe because of being in America now. "Well, welcome dear, this is our small little company in this small little town," she remarked, giving a look to the secretary as she mentioned small little town, maybe an insight joke of some kind.
I managed a smile, perking up my lips before dropping down again. I was so confused.
"I am one of the teachers here, dance teacher really and the company's director!" she announced, proud of herself clearly as she rose her hands up.
Maybe a bit embarrassed, she dropped them down and chuckled.
"And this, here, is my partner, she and I put the posters up, get recruits and well, made the company all together," she informs, a bit sheepishly yet confident at the same time. She was a bit confusing this lady, but there was a sense of home to her with her old smile and her new look, she was old but the dancing sure helped her out and the makeup that smeared her crinkled up skin.
Her blondish brown hair mirrored the light outside, light from fog, yet dark from the upcoming winter.
"Well, enough about us, what about you? What do you want?"
"I uh,"
"Oh, wait, before that, you should probably sign those," the woman interrupted, pointing to the woman at the desk causing my attention to switch to her again.
I was still a bit confused but as I turned towards the brown counter, I saw the secretary with a clipboard and paper sitting on top of it, her pushing it closer on the counter top, towards me.
"Oh okay," I agreed as I walked closer to her, the woman at the desk quiet as she smiled up at me, sitting down still.
I smiled back, her smile more easing, no makeup covering up her old lines of wrinkles, her gray hair bunched up in a bun at the top of her head as she gave me a soothing look.
"Those papers are for the sign ups, just so we have your name and some info is in this flyer about the times and some more programs you can sign up for," the woman standing said, her voice turning my attention back to her as she blabbered on about information, passing me a flyer with the company's name, Dance class with pop of joy and music!
"Oh, okay," I mumbled, still at awe by all of this that it was hard to register as I turned towards the sign up paper.
"Oh," the woman behind me exclaimed, causing me to bounce back to her, due to her excitement,"I almost forgot to tell you my name," she chuckled at her own ridiculousness, "I'm Remmy," she chirped, walking back into the studio she came from, "Come dance, okay?" she called and I nodded in return as she looked over at me. Door still open as she waited for my response, and when I nodded, she gave me a small wink, making me feel all the more safe here by their homy vibes and kind manners. It was like they were mother's.
I turned back to the register, smiling as the realization of all this came to me, feeling safe and that this was my place.
Signing the paper, looking at the slots of other names written on it, I gave a smile to the woman sitting down and she returned it. Her pursed amused lips and her crinkling eyes looked up at me.
The chair and interior of the desk was red as I looked down at her, her petite body taking over the chair yet looking small compared to everything, the counter was large as it circled around her desk.
Standing straight again as I stopped signing my name, she spoke, surprising me with the sound of her sweet voice.
"My name is June," she whispered to me, leaning in closer like it was a secret as she smiled sheeplisly towards me. I couldn't help but smile more.
It was like these two were complete opposites, one loud and sparky, the front page girl, and the other reserved and quiet, the one who did the business.
I turned away, a smile still on my lips.
~~~~~~~~

As if the two women couldn't have been enough to draw me in, the studio's glow and the opportunities that could be given to me, the dance class I was in right now, put all my doubts in second class, out the window they went.

I was smiling brightly, sweating, my clothes sticking to my body as I was in my first class of this program, beginners class, to help me loosen. It truly did let me loosen because I wasn't holding back as I hit the moves, legs high up, not as high as the teacher's went, but it didn't matter about the comparison. The thrill of being in here, this bright cozy room, the autumn sun following me and into the dance floor, other kids sweating along with me, it didn't matter how inexperienced I was, no judgement came as all of us just danced to the teacher's instructions and the beat of the music.

It was beautiful and I knew this was were I had to be, that I had found my place to finally express outside the walls of just speaking, of the status quo, the rules, I could truly just be me and express!
