eight

" Severely, I guess I loved you too severely,
I think letting you go is more severe than dying."

Seolhyun was practising when someone called her phone.
Running to the table, she looked at the caller ID and smiled to herself. She accepted the call.

"Hi beautiful. Where are you?"
The corner of her lips tugged into a smile. She loved it when he called her that. It reminded her how she meant a lot for him. She felt worthy.

"Hey," she sat down for a bit. "Well I'm at the studio."

"Why is it so quiet?" he asked, well probably because the last time he called, her bestfriend was loudly teasing her at the background.

"Madam has some kind of errands to do. The other girls are at the back, they are going out later. And Choa, I don't know where she went. She didn't come to practise."

Hongki chuckled. "Well I'm inviting her and Jae to dinner with us. What do you think?"

"That's awesome! I can't wait. I'll text her later. Where are we going to meet?" she said quickly, already excited by the thoughts of having double date with her friend. And she wouldn't know the plan. 'It will be epic.' she thought.

"How about I go to your studio, and we could choose the restaurant together?"

"Great, I love that."

"Cool, I'll see you in a few."

After he hung up, she jumped into texting her bestfriend about the plan of meeting Hongki in a restaurant that night, well without mentioning Jaejin of course.

"Hi." Hongki hugged her and she hugged back.

"Hi. Come on in." she pulled him inside and he looked around for any sign of other people as he placed his coat on the chair.

"Where's everybody?" he asked.

"Out. I don't know if they are coming back, so I'll need to close the studio. You want coffee?" she swirled around to meet his eyes, he smiled and shook his head.

"No thanks. I've scalded my tongue before." he said and she laughed.

"Well, that is because you weren't paying any attention to the heat. The cup was steaming!"

"Or, maybe I was too busy looking at someone." it was his turn to laugh when she blushed. "Were you practising?"

"Yes. Because tomorrow was the show and I need to practise once more then I'm done."

"Can I watch?"

"Of course. But don't laugh." she warned playfully. She turned on the music and started to dance.

It was beautiful, as she danced gracefully. Her face held thousand of emotions, her hands and feet collaborated perfectly, like a fairy dancing. But as he was admiring her every steps, the thoughts of her girlfriend death flashed to him like lightning. When he sent her for the last time, watched her coffin being buried deep under the ground, and back to the church weeping as he looked at her picture. She was smiling in that picture.

It can't be, his girlfriend died because of him, and he didn't even get the chance to tell her how he loved her. How she meant the world to him.

The tears were coming out fast, and he excused how mself to the toilet before she saw it all.

Hongki left for the toilet and she smiled.

This was the moment.

She ran to her bag and pulled out a pocket watch, the very same one he held at the shop. He looked interested in that watch, but he didn't buy it. So she thought it will be a surprise if she bought that watch and put it inside his pocket without him knowing it. She smiled at the thought.

Before he came back, she quickly slipped the watch into one of his coat pocket, making sure it was at the bottom of the pocket when she touched something. At first she thought it was nothing, maybe some kind of receipt but her curiousity got the best of her, so she pulled it out and read the content.

It was an article torn from a newspaper. On top of it was the date of tomorrow. How can a newspaper dated a day early? She article had the picture of the zebra crossing she always walk pass when she was going home. She scanned through the contents and sttopped when she saw her studio name was written on it.

'Dancer A from Byul Dancing Academy died at the zebra crossing when a drunk driver..' she read.

"Seolhyun.." a voice said and she looked up. It was him, the guy she thought was perfect. Turned out she was wrong, he was just a creep. And she felt disgusted of herself for falling for him. Tears started to build inside her eyes.

"What is this? Are you a stalker?" she asked angrily.

"No, please. Seolhyun let me explain." he started but she smacked him on his chest.

"Get out."

"Please, Seolhyun, you need to listen." he stepped forward and she started to hit him again and again. He had to grab both of her wrist to stop her. But it only made her angrier. "Seolhyun, that girl, it was you!"

"You are crazy! You are crazy!! Get out!" she yelled, the tears fell. She felt stupid, but she can't control herself. He lied to her and she just can't accept that.

"I know because I've lived through the future. Seolhyun please, please listen. I need you to to come with me or you'll die!" he said.

She finally managed to free her right hand and slapped him across the face. She was pretty shocked herself. She quickly pushed him away, threw him his coat and the crumpled paper on his face.

"Get out." she whispered. "We're over."

Hongi sat on the park bench wondering to himself, what had he done wrong. He had planned it thoroughly, and everything went well, until she saw the paper.

She slapped quite hard on his cheek, and it still stung a bit, but what hurt a lot was when she said those words. It hurt more like his soul was being ripped away from his body.

"Get out, we're over."

He closed his eyes. She looked angry, sad and disappointed. He was ready to break down right there, but his phone beeped. He took it out and read the text. It was from Jaejin.

"Hyung, where are you?" his eyes widened. He had forgotten all about the dinner.

Maybe she wouldn't go, but she still need to pass the zebra crossing if she want to go home. He looked at the time, it was around 8 so she must be walking to the crossing already. He got up and ran, hoping he would catch her in time.

He saw her, just as she started to cross the road. The pedestrian light was still green, but when he turned to his back, there was a car that was heading to her direction fast.
He called her name but he was quite in a distance, so he ran with all his might. He arrived at the end of road just as the car was quite near, he called her name her once more, but she couldn't hear him.

His heart was thumping hard as he ran to her, and pushed her away just in time. He felt something hit his leg hard, and he thought he heard something cracked. His back hit something, and glasses stabbed into his shoulder. He then fell head first onto the road. His head was bursting with pain and his view was dimming. His body screamed pain, and he wanted to embrace it so much, so that pain will end, but he needed to know if she was alright.

So he tried to turn to his side, to where she was. It moved a little, and also hurt a lot and it left him gasping for air, but filling his lungs with air was painful too. He tried to move his arms, and legs but to no avail. He prayed for her to be okay. Maybe he had pushed her aways so hard that he fell forward and fainted. Or maybe she escaped with just some minor injuries. Either way, he prayed with his life that he managed to save her.

The black spots were slowly blinding him, and he found himself slipping away. Then he saw a familiar face. He thought he saw it wrong, maybe God was good enough to send an angel who looked like her to take his soul. He blinked his eyes and his vision cleared a little.

And he smiled.

She looked scared. Her cheeks were wet with tears and some fell onto his face but he can't feel anything. She brought her hand up and saw red, she screamed and pleaded him to stay.

"Hongki ssi, stay with me. Please, please." she was really scared. She looked around for help. Some people gathered around but no one dared to come, she screamed again, asking them to call the ambulance. This time a guy ran to her and try to help her to move Hongki, but he cried in pain, so she hissed angrily at the guy.

"Don't touch him, just get the ambulance." she said and the guy nodded before quickly took out his phone.

"Hongki ssi, please. Don't leave me. I'm so sorry Hongki ssi." she sobbed, and he smiled.

"I'm so sorry. Please don't leave me. I'll never be angry at you again, I swear. Live, please." she hugged him, brought her face to his chest and sobbed before looking at his face again. "I never get to say I love you. I love you Hongki. Don't leave me please."

He did not hear any single thing that she said. She was crying and hugging him at the same time. He could see that she was frustrated, and he was kind of upset he couldn't hear a single thing she said. It was like his head were shutting down, and the black spots were back. He couldn't feel the pain any longer, it was like there was none.

He stared at her features, trying to catch even the littlest thing about her, when he really felt like his body was giving away.

"You are worth it." was the last thing he said before he closed his lids.

The moon and stars were the witnesses, as the starcrossed lovers stood before them, vowing that their love is forever.
