More Time With Danny
The next morning;
Jessica woke up with that same shooting pain she had felt yesterday. She hadn't realized that she fell asleep on the chair in Sam's room. But it was the least of her worries. She thought about the babies and this significant amount of pain which could be a warning sign. She felt so scared.
With the last of her strength she rushes to the bathroom to check and see if there was bleeding. Fortunately, she was clear.
She finally comes back from the scare and sits on the toilet. She breathes heavily and covers her face with her hand.
"Jessica?" She hears
She slowly stands up and rubs her eyes. She peeks her head out the window and sees Sam wide awake.
"Hey, sorry, did I wake you?" She asks
"No, I've been up all night. Are you okay?" He asks
"Yes, I'm fine. Why didn't you sleep?"
"The pain." He mumbles
"Why don't I go get a nurse on my way out to see Jack?" She suggest
"Alright" he says softly
Jessica regroups and then grabs her things to go see Jack. Danny spent the night with him which was a relief. He was being discharged today so Jessica wanted to say goodbye.
Sam was told that he'd be in the hospital for a few days to run more tests and keep an eye on him. Until then, Scarlett, Wyatt, and Jack would all go stay with Danny for a few extra days.
It made her heart sad that she couldn't take care of Jack and the kids, but Sam needed her right now. She had to swallow her pride and let Danny and Mandy take over.
As she walked to Jack's floor more panic set in. These pains she was having scared her. She felt like she had no time to go get looked at.
"Hey, buddy! You're awake!" Jessica smiles walking into his room
"And happy! He's been asking for you all morning." Danny chuckles
Jessica takes Jack from Danny and holds him closely
"You look so much better!" Jessica smiles
"Mama." He says happily.
"Look at you... what a happy little boy."
"The nurse just came back with papers for us to sign before I take him home. They gave me a list of instructions. But he only has a minor concussion so he'll be alright." Danny says
"He'll need lots of rest. He likes laying in bed with me. Maybe instead of playing movies thought, try something easier on the eyes. And don't forget to clean where the staples are." Jessica rants
"Jess, I know it all." Danny smiles
"I'm not so sure about that."
"Listen, I know this is hard, especially since you like taking care of them when they are sick, but I got this." Danny reassures her
"How can I be so sure? What about Mandy? Was she in here when the nurses talked to you?" Jessica panics
"Yes, but she's getting the car now waiting downstairs." Danny says
"... you know, she really tries." Danny mumbles
"Who?" Jessica says
"Mandy. She just feels ignored around you." Danny says confidently
Jessica turns to Danny and gives him a look. "Danny, she's your girlfriend and I'm your ex girlfriend. Does she really want to be friends with me?" Jessica says
"Yes. She does. She has no one." Danny says softly
"What do you mean? She has friends, right? I mean I'm nice to her and I'll apologize if she felt that way, but it's been a stressful few days." Jessica sighs
"Her parents died a few years ago. She doesn't have siblings, she isn't even from here. She loves the kids and she just wants to do the whole co-parenting thing right."
"I appreciate that. I'll try harder." Jessica mumbles
"Hey, I'm not trying to add stress." He says looking into her eyes
She quickly looks away, because she knew Danny always knew when cried.
"You've been crying... what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just woke up to a scary dream."
"Okay, well I'll text and call you. The kids will FaceTime you. Mandy is downstairs." He says taking the baby from Jessica.
"I love you Jack! Mommy will come see you soon!" She says giving him a kiss
"I'll update you." He says with a wink

Two days later;
Today Sam was being released from the hospital. Within the four days that he was there, they discovered that his number had grown, but not by much. It was very disheartening to hear. Especially because if the tumor grows, it can be removed. They need it to shrink.
His oncologist recommend more intense rounds of chemo and radiation.
Sam was discouraged. He had a lot of self doubt and fears. He was growing more and more sick and felt like it was all a waste of time with the new tumor size.
Over the last twenty four hours Jessica sat down and talked to her parents. Without begging, she was in desperate need of help. Jessica could only do so much, especially for Sam. Her mother insisted on moving in with Jessica and Sam. Dorthy has been a nurse for over thirty years. She knew sam needed more than Jessica could offer. She also knew that Jessica was drowning. She was pregnant with twins, has three more children to raise, a sick husband, and has no time to ever pause.
"So my mom will be moving in next Monday. She'll stay in the room next to the twins." Jessica says as she packs up Sam's things
"Your mother doesn't have to move in... no one else's life should have to stop." Sam struggles to say
"She insisted. There was no saying no. She wants to help." Jessica says
"And I appreciate it, but I feel so helpless."
"You're sick. But, you will be getting better." She says softly
"Will the kids be there?" He asks
Jessica shakes her head "no, Danny has them for another week." She sighs
"Why? That's not the schedule." Sam worries
"Well, he thought it would be best to let Jack recover in one place. He said him and Mandy have a nice schedule planned out for the next week. So I'm giving him more time with the kids." She says
"Jess, is there a specific reason he is keeping them?" Sam says
"Well, he thought it would be best if he took them so I could just focus on you. And that's what I'm doing."she smiles
Sam grows quite and sighs.
"Sam, it's for the best..." she whispers
Sam sits there is silence. He felt like he was ruining everyone's lives and taking their own time from them. He was always one to solve the problems and have control. He lost all of his control. It was irritating and frustrating for him.
"I want you to get better." She says cupping his cheeks in her hands
"I know."
"You're not doing anything wrong. The kids need more time with their dad. He's been so busy and we have too." She reassures him
