Chapter 9 - Stubborn

*With Sideswipe and Denny*

"Sideswipe! Will you slow down!" Denny shouted clinging to Sideswipe steering. His body slammed against the door as he took a corner. Sideswipe didn't give an answer but slowed down to only a hundred miles per hour. Clarissa's farm wasn't that far away from Denny's scrapyard, but with the rate the two were flying down the empty road, it felt like only a few seconds. Sideswipe drifts into the driveway. The minute he gets to a stop, Denny opens the door and falls out. On his hands and knees, he tries to hold back his lunch. Sideswipe transforms and looks down guiltily at Denny. "Don't ever do that again." Denny growled up at Sideswipe as he is finally able to stand on two feet.

Sideswipe follows Denny to the pasture, watching the horses come up to the fence. Koda begins to make some noise as the two walk up. "Hey, you three, long time no see." Denny says walking up to the fence. Koda immediately pushes Clyde out of the way and pushes his muzzle into Denny's hands. "Woah boy, there is enough love for everyone." Denny says ruffling the horse's hair. "Sideswipe, say hello to Koda, Clyde, and Jack." Sideswipe gave an awkward wave, already knowing who they were. "So, what do we have to do with them?" Sideswipe asked, trying to keep his cover.

"We are going to take them into the stable and feed them, brush them, then turn them back into the pasture." Denny explained. Sideswipe followed Denny to the barn to grab the "You might want to go into holoform. I don't think the horses will like to be led by a giant robot. And Clarissa would be pissed if you broke anything in her barn." Denny warned. Sideswipe backed up before transforming. His holoform stepped out of his alt and followed Denny inside. He immediately grabbed Koda's lead. "I'll get Koda, he can be a bit of a handful." Denny stated, leaning to grab the halter from Sideswipe. "No that's okay, I think I can get it." He paused looking over Denny's facial expression. "What?" "If you think so." Denny grabbed the other two leads and the two went out to get the horses.

As Sideswipe got closer, Koda began to neigh in excitement, even doing a little jump towards him. "He seems to already like you." Denny exclaimed as they walked in. Koda ran up to Sideswipe, nuzzling into his chest. "Woah back buddy." Denny warned, pushing the horse back a bit. As soon as Denny's hand left his chest, he was back in Sideswipes face. Before Denny could do it again, Sideswipe put the halter over Koda's head. "He's okay. I think I like him too." Koda gave a confused whinny and blew in Sideswipes face. Denny stood back and watched the whole interaction, fascinated on how the two reacted to each other, almost as if they already knew each other.

*At the Hospital*

"How's the bike look?" Clarissa asks still laying in the hospital bed. "Are you sure you want to ask that question?" Tyler looked at her with a sarcastic look in his eye. "Yes, I want to know." She didn't look at him, her stare contained on the ceiling. He gave a small sigh before answering, "Well this was the worse try yet. I don't know what you were thinking, but we could actually fix the bike before. This time... this time after we got you away, the bike blew. It became scorched, no fixing it." Tyler looked away from her for a moment, not ready to see the tears coming to her eyes.

"I know it was your favorite bike."

"It was my brothers."

"I know it was, but I can't fix it this time. What were you thinking? You know how dangerous that stunt is. Now it's cost you a knee cap. Who knows if you will ever race again."

"I will race again!" She cut him off in anger.

Silence consumed the room. Both looking anywhere but each other. "This isn't the first time I've been hurt." She whispered lowly, breaking the unwanted silence. "But this is the first time you've broken something. Minor scrapes and bruises are one thing. But a broken knee cap, that's another. The doctor says it will be months before your able to even drive a car, let alone a motorcycle." He looked at her with worry in his eyes, sadness and pain. "Your turning into your brother." Her eyes snapped to his.

"My brother was a great rider. He was one of the best."

"And he was stubborn too. Just like you. You wouldn't even be racing if we hadn't been disbanded." He shouted back at her.

The room went silent again. Tyler knew all her buttons and just how to push them. Her arms crossed now, and she looked away from him. Not happy with how this conversation was going. Then their silence was broken, by someone rushing into the room. Before they could figure out who it was, the man had his arms around the bed ridden woman.

"Clarissa." He whimpered into her neck. "Sam?" She struggled to get out. It took her a moment to wrap her arms around him, pulling him in closer. After a few moments, Sideswipe leaned away, his arms still around her. "I was so worried. I didn't know what to do. Then Denny got a phone call and it told me everything. I got away as soon as I could." He began to kiss her all over. "Sam, I'm...Sorry. I never got my...phone...back." She said in between kisses. Her hands trailed his face, fingers curling around his hair. "I don't care...about...that. I'm...just...glad you're okay." He said panting as he finally pulled away enough to talk. "I'm going to leave you two to talk." With a disgusted face, Tyler got up and left the room.

"What happened?" Sideswipe looked her over, noticing her bandaged knee. "Racing accident." She said shyly looking away from him. "How? How bad?" He asked still staring at her knee, but now holding her hand. "I was attempting a move that I've been trying to perfect. I misjudged my speed and didn't make the turn. Shattering my knee cap. I'll be lucky if I'm able to race again by the end of this year." She felt ashamed of herself. She let her anger get the best of her and now she is laying in a hospital bed.

He looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. Something she didn't want to happen. "Don't look at me like that." She whined looking away. "I'm sorry. I just don't know what to do. I don't know how to comfort you." He kept his sad eyes on her. She pulled his hand closer to her chest, making him lean against her. "Just being with me is all I need right now." He leaned his forehead against hers. "I can do that." He answered with a small smile.

*At the scrap yard*

A few hours later

"Where is Sideswipe?" Bumblebee growled as he stormed around the yard. "Haven't seen him since he came back and dropped off Denny, then sped off out of base, Sir." Strongarm answered. "What the hell is he thinking? Fix-it have you gotten ahold of him yet?" Bee yelled up to the command deck. "No, Sir." Fix-it shouted back. Bee gave another angry growl. "How are we supposed to be a team, if the team isn't all here." He mumbled to himself.

Bee stalks away, thinking about punishments for Sideswipe. He is only gone for a few moments when Sideswipe comes drifting into the scrapyard. Strongarm and Grimlock stand in front of the command center, arms crossed, both sharing equally angry looks. "What's with the faces?" Sideswipe asks casually after he transformed. "Where have you been?" Strongarm yells at him. "Out patrolling." He answers in a sly tone, starting to walk away. "We have to go train." She yelled back at him. "Train for what?" He scoffed. "We should always train, always be ready." "Ugh" He groaned but began to follow as Strongarm transformed and rolled out of the lot, heading towards the forest.

*At the hospital*

"I thought he would of stayed longer." Tyler commented walking back into the room, sitting down in the chair next to the hospital bed. "I made him go back to work. His phone has been pinging for over an hour now." Clarissa says looking over at him. "Where did you go?" She wondered. "Just to get something to eat. I haven't exactly left since you've been here." She looked more closely at him than before. His clothes are wrinkled, his hair disheveled and prominent dark circles around his worn-out crystal-like eyes. "You should go home and rest." He shook his head at her words.

"No, I can't leave you."

"Tyler, you need proper sleep and probably a shower." She adds taking a whiff of him and covering her nose.

"Yeah maybe, but I'm still not leaving you. If Sam was here, maybe, but he's not. I won't leave you alone."

"I'm in a hospital. There is security everywhere. Besides I'm sure Sam will come back once he's done at work. Who's gonna come after me anyway?" She waved a loose hand at him, not worried about anything at this point.

"That's not the point."

"Then What Is?" a growl left her throat.

They both paused with a stare. "Why can't you just let me be there for you?" He snapped back at her.

"I don't need someone to be there for me."

"Fine you want it that way. I'll go home." With that he stomped out of the room.

Before he could get to far, he leaned back in, hand on the doorway. "I'll come back tomorrow." He said in a low tone, then left before she could give an answer.
