Chapter Thirty-Seven

I wake up after about an hour nap, not wanting to sleep our last full day together away, and turn over to admire him in his most vulnerable state.

With his lips slightly parted and soft snores escaping, I push his hair away from his face and press my lips to his. At first, my touch doesn't register enough to stir him so I repeat the action again. This time noticing the faint feeling of his lips puckering to mine.

I smile at how tired he is and kiss him once again. He returns the soft kiss once he finally stirs awake and wraps his arm around me to pull me closer.

"Mm...annyeong gongju." He mumbles against my lips.

"Annyeong nampyeon." I respond making him smile.

"I see the lesson paid off some." He grumbles as he kisses along my cheek.

I nod, "it did."

"Uncle Kim's lessons won't be like this, just so you know." He jokes, making me giggle into his neck.

"I should hope not!"

He chuckles and taps my shoulder for me to move so that he can get up. As he sits up and stretches his arms above his head, I watch the muscles in his arms and back flex against his movements. He's such a beautiful man and I still can't believe he wants to be all mine.

"He's back at home today by the way." He says as he reaches down to grab his boxer briefs, yanking me from my hypnotic state.

"Oh yeah. Would you want to go see him before you leave?" I ask sitting up and holding the covers to my chest.

"Yeah, I need to return the BMW anyway since you're taking me to the airport tomorrow after class."

I nod and scoot off of the bed.

I need a shower from our afternoon entanglement so I make my way to the bathroom. Once I begin to get the water heated up, I feel a warm body standing behind me and muscular arms encompassing my frame.

"Mind if I join you?" He whispers into my ear and softly kisses my neck.

"Not at all." I turn around smiling and walk him back into the shower.

The water temporarily stuns him. We both still have on our underwear but we don't care as we giggle at our playful ways.

Once we had enough of goofing off and making each other laugh, we surprisingly manage to get cleaned up without ending up in another erotic position.

An hour and a half later, we reach Uncle Kim's house and Taehyung walks us inside as if we still lived there. I love that he still considers it home. I even still consider it home.

"Ava!" Uncle Kim walks up to me and wraps me in his arms as if he hadn't just seen me over the prior weekend.

"Nice to see you too, Uncle Kim." Taehyung jabs with a monotone voice.

"Yeah, yeah. Hi Taehyungie." Uncle Kim jokes before wrapping his arms around his nephew. "What brings my favorite two people by?"

"Just wanted to see you for a bit before I head back to Korea tomorrow and return the car."

He nods and motions for us to follow him to the living room.

"So Ava, you know meeting the family is a huge deal, right?" Uncle Kim begins as I sit down on the sofa with my knees bent up like I'm a kid back at home.

I nod with a wide smile.

"A huge deal." He states again.

"Yes, Uncle Kim. She knows." Taehyung chuckles at the awkwardness.

He takes a sip of his drink, keeping his eyes on Taehyung and I before setting it back down. Leaning back in his favorite chair, he clasps his hands together and narrows his eyes at us.

"Does this mean you two have discussed marriage?" He continues and Taehyung and I look at each other.

Uncle Kim did well at staying out of our personal business unless it was necessary but I guess this would be. Like he said, it's a big deal to meet the family in Korean culture.

"We have and she said yes...but we're still waiting until after school." Taehyung states as he sits back against the sofa more comfortably.

"So you're going to be a part of the family for real?" Uncle Kim's eyes light up and a bright smile takes over his face as he looks directly at me.

"I mean, not tomorrow but yes." I can't help but to return his infectious happiness.

"Ah! I'm so happy!" He jumps up and pulls me in for another hug, this one even tighter than the one earlier and I giggle out at his elation.

He steps back, keeping only one arm wrapped around me as he stares daggers into Taehyung. His sudden change of demeanor making my head spin.

"You better not mess this up Kim Taehyung. Do you hear me? I will disown you." Uncle Kim scolds and points at him with no sign of  playfulness in his voice.

After a beat of awkward silence, Uncle Kim smiles and Taehyung and I nervously chuckle. We're unsure if it was a joke or not but Taehyung looks a bit scared.

Uncle Kim excuses himself to go refill his drink and I sit back down next to Taehyung. He slowly puts his arm around me so that I can snuggle in next to him but doesn't move his eyes from the spot he's been staring at.

"I don't know what that was. He hasn't used that tone with me since I threatened to not go back to Korea." He whispers without looking over to me.

"Don't mess this up and you're good." I smile and kiss his cheek to break him of his trance.

He finally looks over to me and brushes my hair away from my face. "I really hope I don't."

I chuckle and squish his cheeks in my hands to force him to look at me like he did to me last night in the park but instead of scolding him, I just kiss his pouty lips and rub my nose on his.

He tries to smile through his pressed cheeks and I can't help but to giggle at how adorable he is.

"I wuv vou." He mumbles and I throw my head back in laughter.

How can such a sexy man also be this cute? I hope our kids get his adorable traits.

"I love you too dork."

We're into our second hand of cards with Uncle Kim when I decide to get bold and do something I've never imagined I would actually do.

"Uncle Kim, why haven't you gotten married or settled down?" I ask as I pick up two cards out of the deck.

"Oh...uh. I was with someone for a while. When I was younger. Taehyungie was just a kid. She didn't want to marry me and she married my best friend at the time instead a few years later. So I lost her and my best friend." He slowly places down a card and looks like just mentioning her tore back open the crack in his heart. "I haven't dated since."

"She's stupid." I say as I look at him with worry and anger across my face.

He smiles and nods, "aren't we all?"

I study sweet Uncle Kim's face and regret even opening up that wound again. I figured he would just say something along the lines of being too busy or not finding the one yet. Not that he had been so heartbroken that the memory of it still haunts him enough to refuse to move on.

I look over to Taehyung who looks back over to me with worry behind his big brown eyes.

"I bet she's regretting that decision." Taehyung sympathetically smiles up at Uncle Kim.

"Oh, she is. He's cheated on her multiple times. He was always the playboy type. Just like your friend, what's his name again? The athletic one." Uncle Kim questions as he plays his turn.

"Jungkook?"

"That's the one. Keep an eye on him Taehyungie." He says with a seriousness laced in his voice before turning his eyes back to me. "Not that I think you'd do the same thing, Ava."

He smiles and I shake my head vigorously. Of course I wouldn't do that to Taehyung. I really don't even know how anyone could do that to someone, but then again, I'm inexperienced in life and I shouldn't judge.

But that still doesn't mean that I don't despise this unknown woman for breaking Uncle Kim's heart.

Taehyung grabs my hand and holds it tight underneath the coffee table and I already know this conversation has gotten into his head. I've seen his friends during our video chats and while I can't deny that they're extremely attractive men, no one else makes my heart flutter and my soul dance like Taehyung does. Plus, he's got to know that the playboy type doesn't intrigue me in the least. He saw me turn down the playboys at the party we met at. He knows I'm not looking for a fling.

Still, I end up worrying about him for the rest of the night.

Around seven that night, Taehyung and I say our goodbyes to Uncle Kim. He had downloaded an expensive Korean learning program on my phone and promises me weekly lessons to help me in between Taehyung's help throughout the week. He gives Taehyung a tight hug and mentions again how proud of him he is and that he couldn't imagine anyone else taking on the role he will at his company once school is over.

The words Uncle Kim uses doesn't escape me and I begin to wonder what role Taehyung will actually be taking over when I realize that it has never been mentioned. Taehyung just said he would be working for Uncle Kim's company but with the use of the word role it makes me think it's not just some hourly paid job like I had assumed.

We both get into my car, leaving the BMW in Uncle Kim's driveway. Taehyung, insisting on driving as usual, backs out and honks the horn at Uncle Kim waving to us from the front porch.

"You seem quiet." I say as the silence fills the car.

"Just a lot on my mind." He offers me a smile that doesn't touch his eyes.

"Well, we could go to our special place if you need to clear your mind." I grab his hand and he intertwines his fingers with mine before nodding and turning in the opposite direction of the city.

We pull up to our little secluded beach and grab the blankets out of the trunk before walking down to the sand. It was no longer warm on our toes as the crisp autumn air kept it cool. The waves didn't rush up and down the shore, but instead slowly danced along the edge. The birds were nowhere to be found and the humidity was low. Yet, even in the change of seasons, something about this place offered us a peace that neither of us seemed to be able to get anywhere else. And maybe now it wasn't just this place that offered me solace. Maybe it was Taehyung being here with me that made it that much more special.

"Come here gongju." Taehyung holds his arms out for me as he laid flat against the blanket, staring up at the clear night's sky.

I lay down in his arms and pull the extra blanket over us as we stare up at the stars above us.

"I don't get to have this in Seoul." He quietly says as if to not disturb the galaxy.

"You can't see the stars in Seoul?" I ask in the same level of volume.

He shakes his head, "No stars. No you. No happiness."

I softly smile and turn to meet his waiting lips, "I'll be there in less than a month."

He nods and kisses my forehead but the worry doesn't leave his eyes.

"Talk to me." I quietly beg, pushing his hair away from his eyes.

"What about after that? What if we can't see each other for a long time? What if..."

I place a finger over his lips to stop him from rambling and grab his hand to run my finger over his ring.

"Forever yours." He whispers as he catches on to what I'm saying without having to speak.

I move his hand to my necklace and run his index finger over the dainty chain and to the solitaire diamond.

"You said yes." He smiles before kissing me.

"Our plan may not go how we want it to, but that's life. And I can't predict the future, but I can tell you that if you come back for me, I will be yours." I reassure him before kissing him once more and laying back down to look up at the stars with him.

We stay there in silence and relaxation for a few minutes until we see a shooting star stream across the sky.

"Whoa!" We both exclaim as we see it fly by.

"A shooting star is said to symbolize positive vibes and good luck for anyone who gazes upon one." I begin to say before hovering over to look at him in his eyes. "I'd say that was a good sign for our future. That we chose this moment to come to our place to speak about your worries of the future and we end up seeing a shooting star. It wasn't just a coincidence."

He smiles his wide boxy grin and wraps me in his arms, "How did I get so lucky?"

"I think I was always meant to be yours."

"Yeah?"

I nod with a soft smile as I look at his perfect features.

"I don't think I could survive losing you." He solemnly states and I know he's thinking about what happened to Uncle Kim.

"It's a good thing you won't have to find out." I lower my head to kiss his lips.

Feeling a bit vulnerable, he whimpers and parts my lips with his tongue before flipping me over to my back. He kisses me deep and slow, relishing in the moment and refusing to rush it. Usually, when we begin to make out, we end up having sex but this time, I don't get the feeling that's what he's looking for. This time, I think he's just wanting intimacy. To kiss me as if it's the last time he can even though we both know it won't be.

Knowing I have class in the morning, we end our beachside make out session and head back to spend our last night in the hotel.

The ride back was silent but in a calming way this time. He softly ran his fingers through mine and would occasionally smile at me. No words were needed in this moment. Just being in each other's presence was enough.

"I have a question for you and you don't have to tell me if you don't want to." I state as I climb into the hotel bed next to him and he pulls me into his chest.

"Anything gongju." He kisses the top of my head before turning off the light.

Even though I didn't have to go to sleep as early as I had been, we liked cuddling in a dark room just talking.

"What will you be doing at Uncle Kim's company after school?" I close my eyes expecting him to avoid the question.

"Ah...that. Well, I guess you should know now since you plan on being around forever." He smiles and I lift my head to try to focus my eyes on him in the dark.

"What do you mean?"

"CEO." He flatly answers.

"Quit playing Taehyung." I giggle and lay back down into his arms. "What will your role be?"

"CEO." He answers again.

"Really?" I pop my head back up.

He chuckles and tucks my hair behind my ear, "Yes, really. He's leaving me in charge of the American company...with his guidance of course. He's the CFO and I'll be the CEO. He's also leaving the business to me if anything should happen to him. So now I'm sure you can understand why me finishing school is so important."

I nod and gulp at the information given to me.

I was expecting something along the lines of being a manager. A simple salary paid position but CEO? Not that I don't think Taehyung is capable of that. He's incredibly smart and already knows a ton about the business but it just wasn't what I expected to hear. But I also understand why riding off into the sunset together wouldn't be an option. He has a ton of responsibility on his shoulders. I make a mental note to be a little more supportive when he's stressing out about schoolwork. He literally can't allow himself to fail knowing an entire successful company is to be placed into his hands.

"Why didn't you tell me before?" I ask lightly running my hand across his chest, his muscles flexing whenever I slightly tickle him. Even though he wouldn't ever ask for me to stop.

"Well, at first it depended on if the American company started to do well. If not, then I would be next in line as CEO at the Korean company. But when it did, and I made the decision to move to the states permanently, he offered me the CEO position in America. Since I know I need to provide a good life for you and our future kids, I couldn't turn it down. I didn't tell you then because I didn't want to let you down if I failed. Honestly? Had you not asked tonight, I probably wouldn't have said anything until I graduated. I don't want to be a failure in your eyes."

My brow furrows and now that our eyes have adjusted to the darkness, he can see my expression.

"Are you mad I didn't tell you? I'm sorry. I didn't do it to try to be sneaky or mean. I just..."

I quiet him by kissing his lips. I'm not in the least bit mad that he kept that from me. I get his reasonings. What I don't get is...

"How could you ever think I'd see you as a failure? Taehyung, even if you weren't making a ton of money and rich, I'd still see you as a success. You are amazing baby. Everything about you is amazing and I couldn't be more proud of you." I stare into his eyes so that he feels every word I'm telling him.

I'm not sure if his father may be different, but I've seen how much it means to him when Uncle Kim says he's proud of him. And I see the same look of relief and happiness in his eyes as I tell him I'm proud of him now.

"You have no idea how much that means to me." He says just above a whisper as he looks back into my eyes. "You're going to be a great mother."

"And you're going to be an amazing father. But not right now." I joke making him smile and relax a bit.

"Ah," he pulls me back down to his chest, "I can't wait for that day. I was thinking about our wedding on the drive back to the city."

"You were?" I smile into the soft, smooth skin of his chest.

"I was. How about we have the ceremony at our special place? Right there on the beach. I know you don't like to share it with other people and I'm the only other person who knows about it but nowhere else seems good enough. Special enough." He turns his body so that we're face to face.

"I think that sounds perfect actually." I smile and kiss his nose.

"Yeah? So I was thinking May 25th."

"You have the date?" I chuckle and he furrows his brow.

"Do you not know what May 25th is?" He quizzes me.

I sheepishly shake my head until I get a sudden revelation.

"Oh! That's when I graduated." I say nonchalantly until it hits me. "Baby! That's the day we met!"

I poke my lip out at how sweet it is for the reason for him choosing that particular date. It was the day we met, the first day I took someone else to my special place and the first day he stepped foot onto it.

"I thought it'd be fitting that our love began on that beach on May 25th and that it would begin again on the same day." He smiles when a stubborn tear rolls down my cheek and over my nose.

"I love it baby. I told you, just tell me the date." I smile and kiss his soft lips.

With visions of our future fluttering in our thoughts, we stare at each other and leave chaste kisses until our eyelids became too heavy to bear and slumber swept away the day.
