Castiel makes a rare journey to Twitter on Saturday. Entertainment Weekly has finally announced that he's joined the cast of Wayward Sisters and he's excited — if somewhat wary — to see what people have to say. He's only had a few minor roles since his movie with Jo came out, biding his time until the right role came along. This is probably a lot smaller than most people would have thought "the right role" would be and he expects them to make that known, but it's exciting nonetheless.

He's pleasantly surprised to find that his first name is already trending. He's low on the list of the top 30 trends in the US, but he's still on it, so he's definitely bringing some attention to the show. Whether that will result in new viewers is the real question.

The first thing Castiel does is visit the Entertainment Weekly page to find the article they wrote about him. He briefly skims it just in case there's something he doesn't like, then copies the link to share on Twitter.

"Very excited to finally get to share this new project with you! Thank you @cw_wws for bringing me aboard, and I can't wait to see what you think of my character!"

He was emailed the photoshoot pictures earlier, so those are already saved to his phone. He tweets four of them out next with the caption, "Feeling Wayward AF," an old slogan of the Wayward Sisters girls. He posts those same pictures on Instagram, then links the Entertainment Weekly article on his Instagram story. That's about all the promo he needs to do, right? Everything else is up to his own discretion? Well, if not, he'll get yelled at later. He might as well enjoy himself now anyway.

While he's on Instagram, he decides he might as well follow people. He follows the show's account, the four main stars, a couple of writers he's been watching from afar through other fans' Tumblr posts, and a few directors from the show. It might be overkill, but he doesn't scroll through his feed very often so it doesn't really matter who he follows; he'll never see their posts anyway.

He switches back to Twitter, where he follows all the same accounts. Of the four stars, Alex, Patience, and Kaia already follow him, but Alex has been following him since she watched his movie with Jo (which he knows because he freaked out when he saw that she followed him). Claire, of course, doesn't follow him; he's beginning to think their relationship is going to be reminiscent of the fake mostly-one-sided feud he and Dean have going on and he's oddly okay with that. It's been a few days and he really feels like he's struck a friendship with Patience and Alex; he doesn't have to be friends with Claire, too. (Kaia isn't quite a friend given that they never really talk, but they have shared the occasional smile across the room at each other, if that counts for something. At least she's not mean, right?)

Alex and Patience have already tweeted about him joining the show. Alex tweeted the link directly, saying, "I don't know how we managed this but I am FREAKING OUT!" Patience, meanwhile, retweeted the EW tweet and added, "Castiel Novak has officially joined the Wayward team! I can't say much yet, but I can tell you that you're not gonna want to miss it."

Castiel isn't usually very active on social media, but with the fate of Wayward Sisters in the balance, he wants to drum up as much attention to his new role as possible, so he makes the dangerous venture into the "Castiel" trend next.

The first few tweets are the ones he's already seen — Entertainment Weekly, Alex, and Patience, fan accounts for Wayward Sisters and himself — but most of the rest appear to be from the general public, excluding the few news sites that scrambled to put together a half-assed copy of EW's article.

"I can't believe Castiel Novak went from working with Jo Harvelle to working with the CW lmaooo"

That's about what he was expecting, and he scrolls by without giving it a second thought.

"GUYS GUYS GUYS HOLY SHIT CASTIEL NOVAK IS JOINING WWS WHAT THE FUCK"

This one is kind of cute. He's glad his mere existence is this exciting to some people. He likes that tweet and moves on.

"The only thing I know about Wayward Sisters is that it's Dean's favorite show so if Castiel turns up dead soon I think we know who did it"

Castiel snorts. He almost wishes he could like the tweet but he wouldn't want to see the headlines that would come out of that. He takes a screenshot of it instead and texts it to both Dean and Charlie. He has a feeling they'll both get a laugh out of it. He goes back to Twitter afterward, and when Dean texts him back, he just answers in the pop-down window so he can keep scrolling through Twitter and interacting with fans.

Dean: This is the single best thing to come out of our fake fight

Dean: (But please don't kill me)

Castiel: Damn, there goes my plan.

Dean: ...

Dean: Wait so people know you're playing Lucifer now?

Castiel: Just that I'm playing "someone" on the show. Alex and Patience are really hyping him up for me.

Dean: Okay hold on I gotta go be passive aggressive brb

Castiel stops scrolling through his trend and goes to Dean's account. He knows it's going to take a couple of minutes for Dean to say whatever it is he wants to say, but that doesn't stop him from refreshing the screen every couple of seconds until Dean's new tweet finally shows up.

"Is nothing sacred anymore?"

Castiel snorts. It's so vague yet so obvious and Castiel is living for it. He's almost tempted to reply, "No," but he has a feeling that would get him in a lot of trouble. Instead, he just texts Dean, "No, no it's not."

Dean: Good

Dean: Who needs sanctity when you could have Satan?

Castiel: That sure is a sentence.

Dean: Idk if you already saw it but Alex is fangirling with the wws fans

Castiel: I did not see that?

He opens Alex's account and switches over to replies, and, sure enough, she's been conversing in the replies of her last tweet. He takes a few minutes to scroll through them, starting at the first ones and scrolling back to the most recent.

One user asked, "Have you met him yet?"

Alex's answer was, "I have! He's super nice and he doesn't seem at all weirded out by the fact that he's surrounded by teenage girls lol"

Someone else asked, "How many episodes is he gonna be in? Is he a recurring character?"

Alex replied, "He is! I don't know exactly how many episodes he's gonna be in (I don't think anyone knows yet tbh) but he's definitely a recurring character." That's something he mentioned in the interview, so she's more than welcome to tell the fans that.

Someone asked, "What can you tell us about his character?"

Alex answered, "I'm sworn to secrecy. You're gonna have to wait and see ;)"

Someone replied to that with, "Is he at least a good character?"

Alex responded, "That's up to you to decide! @PatienceTurner will tell you tho that I almost ruined the first take of his first scene because I started laughing so take that for what you will lmao"

Castiel has absolutely no idea if that's true, but given that she tagged Patience to back her up, he has to assume she means it. That's pretty much the reaction he was hoping to get from the audience, so that bodes well for his character's first appearance. He just wishes he could have seen it.

Someone else asked her, "Have you met Jo Harvelle too?"

Alex replied, "No idek if she's in Canada rn but hopefully one day!"

He's all caught up with her responses so far, so he spends a while just scrolling through Twitter, leaving likes on the nice tweets about himself of Wayward Sisters that he sees. He even replies to a few fans, something he very rarely does, to try to keep the hype up.

He and Dean keep chatting for a few minutes, but that conversation fades out over time. After that conversation dies, one with Jo begins, and Castiel can't help but smile when her name appears on his phone. Sure, she's no Charlie or Dean, but he is so freaking bored and he desperately wants a friend and unrequited crush aside, Jo definitely counts as one.

Jo: Heyyy just landed

Jo: Idk when I'll be at your place but hopefully within in hour

Finally, human life! Sitting all alone in his mostly-empty apartment is not his idea of a good time.

Castiel: Cool! I'll be here :)

Jo disappears for a while after that, and Castiel reluctantly turns back to Twitter. He gets bored really easily on here, but it's either be bored on Twitter to get attention or be bored off of Twitter and get nothing, so Twitter it is. Fortunately, Jo texts him again after a few minutes, and he has something to do besides stare aimlessly at Twitter.

Jo: I am officially in the limo and on my way

Jo: I see you've been tweeting today

Jo: Welcome to the internet!

Castiel chuckles. He knows he doesn't use it too often, but it's not like he's never online. He always posts about his roles and his photoshoots and advertisements and all that, and occasionally he interacts with his friends (or, more accurately, whatever costars he's working with at the time). He's not quite sure why people say he's never online, but apparently it's the popular consensus if even Jo agrees.

Castiel: Thank you, it's an honor to be here. Hey, now that you have service, want me to tweet about the Wayward Sisters marathon?

Jo: Sure! Let's get that promo!

Castiel opens up Twitter and posts the tweet he's had saved in his drafts folder all day: "After many months, I've finally convinced @JoHarvelle to watch @cw_wws. We're going to watch it together next weekend, say Saturday at 12 pm EST. Anyone want to join? #WaywardSisters"

Jo obviously knows he tweeted it because they were just texting, but he has no way of telling Patience and Alex (short of sending them a DM, but that feels weird; no one talks through Twitter DMs, especially to people they barely know). He'll just have to hope they see it eventually and mention it on their own time.

It takes a few minutes for Jo to respond. She quote-tweets it and adds, "Who wants to watch #WaywardSisters with us? I don't care whether you've seen the show 20 times or not at all! Newcomers can come keep me and my clueless self company so I don't feel left out when Cas has the whole show memorized!"

Castiel can't help but smile. He will admit that he doesn't have the whole thing memorized, but he definitely has a few of his favorite scenes down word-for-word, including the pacing and intonation of every line.

He replies to her tweet with, "You don't understand how much pain it will cause me to watch the show and not be able to talk about how certain scenes parallel future scenes or point out the foreshadowing. (Maybe I'll make you watch it twice so I can do that the second time.)

He keeps an eye on Jo's page to see if she replies, but her response comes in the form of a text instead.

Jo: Idk what it is about your texting style but you sound like a 46-year-old man lol

Jo: (In the nicest way possible)

Castiel: ... I don't think anyone's ever told me that before that I don't know what to do with that information.

Jo: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe it's just because until recently, Charlie was really the only person he would text for fun, but he finds himself enjoying this conversation way more than he feels like he should be. It's fun and lighthearted, and though it's technically business-related in that they're in a PR relationship and advertising his show on Twitter, it doesn't feel forced at all. It just feels like talking to a friend. This is something he could get used to.

Now, if only he could forget that Jo has a crush on him...
