I woke up to a terse knock on my door and a merwoman informing me that my uniform was hanging on the door handle. I quickly got up to find a plain black, skimpy, shirt with a plunging neckline. Because to serve 'Zereste' you had to dress uncomfortably. This was so not for Zephra's benefit." Look what they're making us wear!" Eleckra exclaimed telephathically, showing no outward emotion.
" You can tell we're working in a male's palace, just look at these uniforms! " Rita shared her sentiment.
"Split up and search the palace. One of us should be with Jocasta at all times, so we know where she is." I instructed them as an absent looking merwoman swum towards us.
"Hello I am your supervisor, Mickel, here is the code of conduct, a map of the tenple , and a list of what you have to do today. I will fetch you for meal times and town meetings." She said and I recognized her voice as the one from outside my door.
She handed us three pieces of paper each and swum off in the direction of where she had come.
Kenrita's POV
I ignored the code of conduct and my eyes went straight to the map. I scanned it and made a mental note to study it later. I took out the to do list. It read: polish floorboards of corridor G4, light candles in throneroom and dust. Yuck, I hated cleaning. At least the candles would be easy with my powers.
I studied my map for a moment and followed it to the nearest cleaning supplies cabinet. It was immaculately orgsanized so I made note of where to put the things I took. No one likes being the prick that messes up something so perfect. I took my bucket of water, cleaning rags, and floorboard polish and swum to corridor G4. I found a long, wide corridor with scuff marks all over it waiting for me. I sighed and got to work.
After a good two hours scrubbing and an aching back, it was done. I gathered my things and made my way to the throneroom. I wished Miara was there; flirting with her would have been a great way to alleviate the boredom. With a click of my fingers the candles were alight. I didn't need the movement, but I do have a flair for the dramatic. Satisfied with my work I began to polish the lavish ornaments that were strewn around the room.
I was behind the thrones when I heard people enter. I hid behind the throne; curious to see what would be so important it demanded the use of the throneroom. "Can't we just set up another town like this?" I heard a male say in a raspy, but not exactly breathless, voice.
" It would make the authorities too suspicious. We must set up another town on the other end of Aquata. " Zephra's voice commanded.
" But Tempeste-" Th raspy voice whined before he was cut off by Zephra, or should I say Tempeste. My heart sunk with this new realisation, we were a lot more danger than we had thought originally.
"Silence! You imbecile, you never know who is listening." Tempest cautioned the raspy speaker.
"Sire, do you wish for one of us Kefusa to oversee proceedings?" I heard Mickel, our supervisor , ask. I tucked that little bit of information away for later.
" Two of you, I don't care which, may go. That means I'll only have three Kefusa left here but it is worth the risk. You may leave." He ended the conversation abruptly.
I waited until they had all left before I gathered my supplies and left. No longer worried about where to put my things I threw them into the nearest cleaning supplies cabinet. We had bigger problems to worry about now; the king of Tephons.
