Chapter 6

Except it did.

Life did get worse.

Life didn't get bad when police had to investigate him, because Eita had an alibi for him that actually worked, although the wig was questioned. Nor did it get bad when Eita escorted him to and from work and no matter how hard he tried to escape, Eita knew where he was. Even Tsutomu stayed out of his way and called in sick. Except when three days went by and Tsutomu wasn't pestering him over text, Kenjirou found it odd but brushed it off as sickness getting worse but that was a clear mistake as he watched the news half-assedly that night.

"¡Hoy en noticias! Hace aproximadamente una hora, alguien encontró un cuerpo muerto en una zanja y después de investigación, hemos concluido que es un Doctor del hospital general. Su nombre es Goshiki Tsutomu y, por lo que parece, se suicidó.”

("Today in news! About an hour ago, someone found a dead body in a ditch and after investigation, we have concluded that it is a Doctor from the general hospital. His name is Goshiki Tsutomu and, from the looks of it, he committed suicide.")

Kenjirou had been just about to eat when the horrifying picture of Tsutomu dead in a literal ditch several meters away from his house showed and the contents that he didn't even know were in his stomach poured out. First his parents, then Sebas─ although that was a different situation, he couldn't help but feel bad because he had been his subordinate before he found out he tried to kill him and even then, did he only find out the motives after he was already killed in front of him─ and now Tsutomu? Kenjirou couldn't take it anymore.

His shiny varnished floors were splattered with bile and his ears ringed with high pitch noises. Something like tinnitus but not quite. Why did Tsutomu have to do that? What made him kill himself? Was he taking medication that made him hallucinate and kill himself or was it the act of some criminal organization that staged it to look like a suicide? Kenjirou didn't have answers and he didn't want any at the moment but the only thing he did manage to hear being announced was the fact that he had left a will.

Had left a will for his 'brother' and that made Kenjirou cry harder. Tsutomu had always tried bonding with him and being nice but all he ever did in return was snap and yell. Kenjirou was ready to die and go down with everyone he ever knew.

"Why?! WHY?! I’M SO SORRY I WASN'T NICER TSUTOMU! I'M SO SORRY!"

Miserable sobs echoed around the room, the image of Tsutomu lying dead burned in his mind and eyelids when he closed his eyes. So many deaths around him. So many to the point that he wished it was him getting shot instead. Why was everyone leaving? He had literally no one anymore. His parents were gone. Tsutomu was gone. He had no childhood friends in this strange country. And Eita wasn't even considered a real friend although his eyes always lingered on him even in the dead of night. He always felt Eita's presence even when he wasn't there and now, he needed someone and the only person he could actually cry against was Eita.

He had no clue where to even go and so with his mastermind of a plan, packed himself a pair of clothes in a backpack and headed out into the street and simply sat on the sidewalk, crying into his hands as he shook. He knew Eita had someone always watching his house from a sideline. So if he went out and sat vulnerably in public, there would definitely be someone that would relay the news, especially since it was in the dead of night.

The cold air bit at him and his sniffles subsided in the slightest but the pain he felt never left him. He wanted Eita to get him quickly. Random people walked past him as his head remained in his arms, feeling eyes turn to him every now and then but when he felt a pair never leave his figure, he automatically knew who stood above him.

"Hey, Bub? You okay?"

"No. Please don't make me stay here, I can't do this."

"Shh, shh, come here, I'll take you to my place, yeah?"

Kenjirou nodded silently, a particularly harsh sniffle going through him as he looked up with teary eyes. Eita crouched before him, a beanie and sweater on as he grabbed Kenjirou's hand. Hand in hand they walked down the sidewalk, Kenjirou stumbling every now and then until he was gently pushed into the passenger seat, Eita climbing into the driver's side.

"Did someone tell you I was outside?" Kenjirou asked, eyes rimmed red as he looked over to the ash blond.

"Yup. Said you walked out and sat on the ground and started shaking so I had to come. Did you do that on purpose? Did you know I would come?"

"Yeah. Well, it was more hope in me than anything else. I just can't believe Tsutomu killed himself. I thought he was the happiest person alive, not once did I think he had internal struggles or battles or thoughts to hurt himself. He was always so cheery and caring for everyone so I guess I just automatically thought he would live until his old ages and surpass even me in living," Kenjirou explained sadly, voice a bit wobbly as he stared at the road emotionlessly. "How do you live like that? How many have you killed to the point that you feel numb to any deaths? How many teardrops form the flowers on your body? Actually, don't answer me. I'm in too much shock to want to hear anything like that."

He felt guilty sitting in the vehicle with a murderer. As a Doctor, it was his duty to save lives yet he felt attached to a murderer. He really did save lives so Eita could enjoy killing them. The palms of his hands pressed into his eyes, attempting to stop the tears and as he sat there taking deep breaths, Eita whispered to him.

"Too many. Way too many and the first ones to start the drops were my parents."

The air got thicker, silence engulfing and as they winded down side roads, Kenjirou finally stopped crying enough to look around. He had been living in Mexico for roughly ten years and even then, he had no clue which area he was in because frankly, he was in a massive country.

"That's fucked up. Hope you found whatever you were looking for by doing that, I guess. I actually liked my parents."

"Oh, trust me, I did too. I loved them but then shit happened, I became part of organizations. Joined the Yakuza, infiltrated the El Salvadorans to join Mara Salvatrucha, went to America for a while to make deals with the Mafia, and then came here to Mexico because I wanted to know if the Cartel were good allies. Turns out, they're shit and want me dead," Eita casually explained as if it were a normal conversation. "Not a word out of your mouth or you're in trouble, got it?"

Kenjirou realized they were pulling into a driveway, looking around and trying to figure out what type of protection the house had before he decided he could answer.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I should be on the side of the law but right now, I couldn't care less as long as you don't drag me into this shit. Just watch over me for right now. I kinda need it."

Eita twitched his mouth slightly in an attempt to smile, using a remote to flood the garage with lights, not a single nook or cranny allowing someone to hide in and kill him, before getting out of the vehicle with Kenjirou behind him. With a gentle hand, Eita took his hand and guided him into the house he had been at only once before when he had been taken away from the restaurant, settling down on a sofa before feeling flood works build up.

That night, with the best of Eita's very little ability, he comforted Kenjirou and when he was too tired to keep crying over the misery in his life, he let him sleep in his bed and climbed in beside him.

Slowly, Eita pulled Kenjirou against his embrace, a small smile on his face and with the aid of the moonlight, stroked the tattoo on his thumb. He looked at the other dates on his wrist that were more or less hidden in other designs and frowned at those ones. He didn't want the one on his thumb to be joined in a design and just hoped that choosing to put it on his thumb was the right place. Not like he would have any regrets considering he had done numerous of fucked up shit but he didn't want the date to be joined with a second one.

It had kind of been like a strong attraction at first sight and because of that, the tattoo ended up on his hand. He didn't feel like contemplating the entire thing so with a gentle nuzzle of his nose against the other's head, he let himself fall asleep because he had promised Kenjirou they would pick up Tsutomu's will the following day.
