Chapter 2- Something New

"We'll have to do most of the project at home. Would you want to come over by my house one day to work on it?" I ask as I put my books into my bag.

"Whatever." Phil mumbles as he does the same as me, his fringe going over his eyes.

I take out a sticky note and jot down my phone number, "Here's my number just in case we have to get in contact." I stick the note to Phil's shirt and he groans.

"See you tomorrow." I quickly say after Phil as he speed walks out of the classroom.

~

I stare at the my phone's screen, waiting for a notification to pop up. Specifically, a notification from a unknown number. That number belonging to none other then Phil Lester. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he threw away the sticky note. He probably bit off a chunk of it and ate it as well.

Probably.

I check the time. It's 2:04 and also a school night. I really should be going to bed. I've waited too long for Phil to text me. It's like I actually want him to text me. But I don't really care at all...? Why am I saying that like it's a question? It's a fact.

I let out a loud sigh of frustration and burry my head into the pillow. My mind needs to shut the hell up.

I hear a knock on the door and I lift my head up from the pillow. My sister Jamie stands in my doorway and I sigh.

"Jamie, go to bed." I groan.

"I'm only a year younger than you. I can handle staying up late. I came here to check on you since you keep mumbling and sighing." She says, annoyance clearly in her tone.

"I was mumbling and sighing?" I ask.

Jamie chuckles, "You're really oblivious to what you do, aren't you Daniel?"

I nod and put my head back down on my pillow. Jamie walks over to my bed and sits down on the edge of it.

"What's on your mind that has you sighing every 3 minutes." She smiles.

"People." I mumble.

"People, really Dan? You've always been a people person. I know you're lying."

"Okay, fine. Not so much people more of...a person."

Jamie wiggles her eyebrows, "And who is this person?"

"Phil. Lester." I coldly say.

"My, my. I've heard of him. He's that really hot bad boy isn't he?"

"Yes. Wait, uh. What I mean is, I guess he could be considered a bad boy but, more of...an asshole."

"Dan!"

"Sorry!"

"I'm sure he isn't that bad. You just don't like hot bad boys." She smirks and kisses my cheek, "I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm going to bed now." Jamie hops off of my bed and walks out of my room.

~

Making my way down town. Walking fast, faces past and I'm hom- I should stop. I make my to my homeroom. The class that's shared with Phil. He still hasn't contacted me...at least I don't think he has. I check my phone once more and choke on my spit when I see that I do have a notification from an unknown number.

My thumbs fumble around to unlock my phone and I quickly read the message. Wait, why am I so excited to get the text from Phil? Okay, this is weird and I don't like it. Phil is a pessimistic ass, nothing more. A attractive pessim- STOP. I shake my head as I walk into the classroom, quickly smiling.

My eyes lock with Phil's and I hold it for a second before looking away and walking over to my desk.

"Someone's not as happy today." Phil mumbles.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"You're not all cheery and shit." He explains.

I roll my eyes, "I don't have to be all cheery and shit all the time." I yawn.

"Didn't get enough sleep?"

I nod my head as my eyes become heavy. My head finds it's way onto my binder an-

"Daniel Howell!" Mrs. Jackson calls out.

My head shoots up and Phil tries his best to hold in his laughter. I glare at him before turning my attention back towards the front.

"Someone really isn't having a good day today."

"At least I'm not as unhappy as you are 24/7." I shoot at him.

Phil puts his arms up in defense, "Now, now. That was a bit uncalled for."

"Whatever you say."

"Hey, I think I should come over to your house today to work on the project." He says.

I raise my eyebrows at him and he snorts, "I'm not going to vandalize anything, don't worry." I laugh to myself and look back up at the front.

I'll have a can of bug spray and a lighter on standby.

~

A knock on my door is heard from my bedroom and I almost break my foot while stumbling downstairs.

"I got it!" Jamie calls out.

"No you don't got it. Just, go to your bedroom." I say.

She gives me a really odd look before making her way up the stairs and to her room. I stop in front of the door, fixing my fringe in the mirror before finally opening it up.

Phil is leant up against the doorway. His fringe covers up most of his right eye. A smirk is on his face this time instead of the usual frown. He's also wearing a black leather jacket this time.

"Hey." Phil says.

"Hi." I greet him, "Uh, you can come in." I pull the door open a little more and step to the side a bit.

Phil walks into my house, his eyes scanning the place. He nibbles his bottom lip as he does so and I stare intently at him.

"Nice place." He snaps me back into the real world.

"What? Oh, thanks." I smile.

Phil's face goes back to his normal frown.

"Here, let's go to my room." I begin to walk up the stares and Phil soon follows.

The white walls of my bedroom are covered in posters from multiple bands such as Muse, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Twenty One Pilots, Black Veil Brides, All Time Low, 30 Seconds to Mars...the list goes on. Phil scans my room, nibbling on his bottom lip again. It must be his thinking face. That appears to be one of the first things I catch as one of Phil's habits.

"You like Muse?" Phil asks as his eyes look at me, his body nor head move.

"One of my favorites, actually." I inform him.

Phil smirks, "Cool. I like them too. I like most of these bands quite a bit not gonna lie."

I smile and Phil turns back to my posters, "Are those your parents?" He asks, looking at a framed picture of my none god parents.

My throat tightens and I clench my jaw, "Yeah..."

Phil's face softens as he hears my reaction and looks at my body language, "Dan, I'm sorry." He sincerely says.

"Don't be." I mumble and sit down on my bed near the pillows.

Phil follows and sits in front of me. My legs or criss-crossed while his are straddled out.

"So, the project." He says, breaking the silence in the room.

"Right." I grab for a piece of lined paper and pencil, "We need an idea or two."

"Well, we already have the mood."

I nod and scribble down sadness in caps, "What colors usually accompany sadness?"

"Blue." Phil instantly says.

"And some purpley-blues such as indigo." I add and Phil nods.

"Okay, we have the mood and colors. Now we need to get an idea for what the sketch will be."

"I know." Phil grabs for a blank sheet of paper and my Copic markers.

He takes out the black and draws some lines, coloring it in. Followed by color something with multiple blues of different shades- focusing on darker shades more than light ones. Phil nibbles his bottom lip again as he works.

I like how he works. It's swift and quick but somehow still having precision and care. I don't know what Phil's drawing is due to me not being able to see it but, I can already tell that it'll look good.

Phil closes the cap to the last purple marker and places it back into the bin. Without speaking, he turns the paper around and shows off his beautifully drawn picture.

The drawing consists of a black outline of a boy who's also filled in black ink. One single blue tear is filled in right under where his eye would be. The tear reminds me of the movie Cry Baby. The background is a blending mix of medium to dark blues with purples as well. I can tell it would look better using paint instead of markers.

"Well?" Phil asks, breaking the silence in the room once again.

"I love it." I notice a smile tugging at Phil's lips, making my smile widen, "Where did you come up with the idea for that?"

Phil's body stiffens and I know it was a bad question to ask.

"Experience." He mumbles and I leave it at that.

"Maybe we should do other emotions just to see what it'll look like." I suggest.

Phil nibbles his bottom lip again, "Sure. I'll do disgust."

"What colors would be for disgust?"

"I hate cheese. I could do yellow for that."

"But yellow's a happy color."

"How about orange for cheddar cheese?"

"Sounds good."

"What emotion are you doing?" Phil asks.

"Happiness."

"Of course."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I fake, sounding offensive.

Phil laughs, "Maybe because you're like...hardcore happy."

"There's nothing wrong with being happy."

"Not unless it's obnoxious." Phil shoots and smirks.

"You take that back."

"Never." Phil raises his eyebrows.

"I'll tackle you."

"Come at me, mate."

I laugh before making my move and tackling Phil. I push him off of my bed and I land on top of him. Of course, I end up straddling him, our faces centimeters apart. We stay in the position for what seems like hours. It has probably only been a few seconds.

Phil clears his throat and I instantly jump off of him, "Do you take what you said back?" I ask, trying to make it less awkward.

"Nope."

"You're so difficult."

"Guilty." I roll my eyes and nudge Phil with my foot, causing him to giggle.

That's new.

~

"I've finished every emotion I could think of." Phil sighs as he finishes yet another drawing.

"I know what emotion you haven't done yet." I say as I close the cap to a marker.

"And what emotion would that be?" He asks.

"Love." Phil's face is instantly stricken with sadness and hurt.

His eyes glaze over and soon tears are falling. He looks down and tries to hide them with his long fringe the best he can but, it's not working very well. You can't hide the ones that hit my bed with soft thuds.

"Phil." I whisper, "Phil." I say a bit louder.

He slowly looks up at me with a scared expression, sadness still seeping from him like a liquid.

I move the papers that separate use from each other and open up my arms, "Come here."

Phil gives me a 'are you serious' look and I send back a annoyed one.

"Cut the damn macho act for a second and just accept this hug. It's supposed to comfort you, you muppet."

Phil lightly smiles and crawls over to me, falling into my arms. I begin to rub my hand up and down his arm. Phil's body immediately relaxes under my touch and I smile to myself.

~

"Are you feeling better now?" I quietly ask after a while.

Phil slowly nods.

"Do you want to move out of my arms?"

After a while of waiting for his response, Phil shakes his head. He wants to stay in my hug longer. I'm honestly very surprised. I thought that he'd run out of my arms as soon as he was feeling better.

"I'm sorry but, I need to move. I'm uncomfortable and my back hurts." I sadly say.

Phil slowly let's go of me and hides his face the best he can. I move into a more comfortable position and instantly look over at Phil who's staring intently at my wall.

"Come here." I say again for the second time today and Phil crawls back over to me.

I wrap my arm around his shoulders and he places his head on my chest. I smile down at him and I notice that his eyes are closed.

"Is it nice to drop the macho and the 'I'm too good for you' act?"

Phil nods.

"Are you falling asleep?"

Phil nods.

"Do you want to go home then?"

Phil shakes his head.

I don't mind, really. I could get used to Phil cuddling with me. In a friendship way, of course.

~

Okay, this story is MUCH easier to write now. I'm also writing at night which always seems to be my strong point time to write. But of course, you can't forget the BVB songs I listen to while writing. ;)

I may or may not be obsessed with BVB...

Hehe.

I also want to say sorry again for it being so short. -J
