Chapter 2: The Marshlands

Art not by me

It's by Katoumiri

From the warning I got last time I'm trying to make sure I credit all the artwork.

Will's P.O.V.

It's been five months since the incident and I still hold this sword I found in his coffin. I'm out of that snow-storm place and now I'm into a territory of trees, plants, lakes and I may find a somewhere for shelter before the sun rises which won't be for a while but it still worries me. I become bored and lower my hand and I hear something metal scrape. I look behind me and I should've guessed it was the sword. When I found the weapon it had no holster. I quickly pull my arm up and point it forward stiffly so it doesn't drag on the ground. I've been walking for a while which has been months besides the times I hid from the sun to avoid the burning agony. I dug holes and sometimes found a house if I got lucky. I walk further in hopes I find something. I don't want to stay in holes and tombs till the sun comes up because that is a complete pain in the ass, waiting for such a long time, waiting for the sun to go down and the darkness to shower the sky. I walk further and am eventually greeted by the marshes... Muddy waters, dark trees and dark grass. The black grass, Juncus gerardii, while having the appearance of grass, is in fact a perennial rush that inhabits the high Marsh. It generally has one or two fine, narrow leaves that are rolled at the edges. Marshes bogs and swamps are typical wetlands. A wetland may be dry for extended periods, but in general it's water table is at or near the land surface long enough each year to support aquatic plants... Depending on it's type, a wetland may be filled mostly with trees, grasses, shrubs or moss. Vegetations in freshwater Marshes depend on the presence of water. Wet Meadows for instance, do not have standing water for most of the year. They do not support aquatic plants. I look around, examining the Marshlands. I go near the water, seeing if anything's in there but it's far too murky to see a thing, if corpses were hidden under there, you'd never see it unless you you put your hand in there for a feel but water this dark... It would make anyone feel uneasy. The trees have been cut with something sharp as if there has been sword-fighting around here, the cuts are so deep and looks like they've been caused by strong and sturdy blades. The grass is so long, I could hide in it and nobody would see me unless if they were a hawk from above. I and the Marsh is covered by the dark as the moonlight sprinkles above us, the water glistens with it, especially showing big, bright, white circle which is large and in the skinnier, river-like parts... It looks like a fat line that was painted on the water but it slightly waves which looks like spots escaping from the light which gives it a somewhat charming look in my opinion. This view is so soothing I want to lay down but there's no time for relaxation, I need to find shelter, if the sun were to come up at the moment... Perhaps I can use the water to help me but I haven't tried because that would be a stupid experiment. I walks further which just leads me deeper into the Marshlands. I go further and I hear a voice, a beautiful voice, it's like a siren on land since I can't imagine anyone or anything could live in this murky water. The voice is so amazing it feels like she's been singing her whole life with all the practice she's put effort in and never failed. It's like an angel.  I find myself looking for that intoxicating voice. After a few minutes which feel like decades, I finally find her along with people standing alongside her. Her long white hair, her peach-pink coloured dress, her snow-white skin... Now that I see it... I know it's a trap. The people besides her are her subjects who've stood beside her with no choice and have been with her for an ancient range of years. I know why I wanted to find the source of her voice, she uses her skill in charm to lure people here and they become a victim of her but I don't know how she got her servant. I back away, knowing who she is but not her name. As I do, plants grow in a length of which you'd mistake for long vines out of the ground. The reach out for me and grab my arms. I bite them and they let go, if more got to me than I'd probably get stuck and she'd get me but since it was just two and I have my teeth then it was easy. I quickly run and I hear more plants grow and try to catch me along with the servants and beautiful woman of who's appearance is just an attractive disguise. In front of me are three vines reaching out, I then run in the right direction out of the way of them. I run faster and faster, in fear of my death closing in. I look behind me to see that they are far away and I run further and hide behind a tree in hopes they will leave, sometime at least. I cover my mouth since I'm breathing heavily, sure, I don't need air but I do feel fear. I hear them running in the long grass, maybe she and they won't kill me, maybe I'd just be another servant for her but I don't want that either, I've come such a long way from that place and I won't be caught again... I'd rather be a servant than be where I was before though but that doesn't mean I'll just coome out from hiding. I remain there for minutes which feel long, when I was looking for her which wasn't long but felt like decades but right now, it feels like millenniums. I want to run but I also don't want to risk it but I have no idea of what to do. I lay down in the grass, in hopes that they don't find me. I still hear them, running around, looking for one man to eat or make into a servant for her. A few minutes, I hear them argueing of whether or not they abandon the search for me which gives me relief but I hold in the sigh. After the argument, more minutes of which feel like hours, they walk off. When they walk off far enough for me to not hear them, I get up and walk off, making sure I make as less noise as possible in the long grass. I get back onto the path and am running from all the time that was wasted on looking for me. I run further and find a tomb. I sigh but it's the best I'm gonna get.
