Sarah explains how she defeated Jareth
"It took a while and Ludo had to call upon the rocks but eventually we defeated all the goblins in the Goblin City. As we pushed our way into the castle I ran straight into the throne room but Jareth and Toby were not there. I looked at the clock and I had only five minutes left in order to defeat Jareth and rescue Toby. Looking Around i concluded that they could have only gone one way. Sir Diddimus and Hoggle were all gung-ho to come along but I told them that I must face Jareth alone."
"Why?" Tina asked puzzled.
"As I told them because that's the way things were done."
"Sir Diddimus replied well if that's the way things are done then that's the way I had to do it but that should I ever need them all I had to do was call." Sarah paused then continued
"Then I ran up the stairs and found myself in a stairway that defied gravity. I looked and there directly underneath me but not on a seperate staircase was Jareth. Started I stumbled backward. Every where I went there was Jareth. He was singing to me about how i had exhausted him and that he moved the stars for no one. Sang to me that my eyes could be so cruel just as he could be cruel with that he threw his crystal ball and it bounced around the stairs to where Toby was located. As he did this he sang that he did believe in me. I wasn't really paying attention to what he was saying. I was more focused on reaching and rescuing Toby. It seemed that eveytime I got close to him he'd disappear and be on a complete opposite staircase."
"Jareth watched intently as I followed Toby around the staircases. At one point Toby starred up at me. I closed my eyes and jumped and soon realized that i was floating downwards. The staircases all had broken apart and were floating in mid air. I was on solid ground. I looked and spotted him standing in the door frame. "Give me the child I." declared.
"Sarah don't defy me. I have been generous up until now but I can be cruel." Jareth warned me.
"Generous? How have you been generous?"
He replied "everything!" He replied irritatedly. "Everything that you wanted I have done. You asked that the child be taken and I took him. You cowered before me, I was frightening. Lastly he told me that he had "I have rewritten time and turned the world upside down and I've done it all for you. I'm exhausted from trying it live up to your expectations of me. Isn't that generous?" He demanded.
"He makes a valid point." Tina replied.
"Tina, Jareth isn't someone to idolize. He's evil and he lives to inflict uncalled suffering upon his subjects. He revels in the fact that they are terrified of him. I was determined to not only rescue my baby brother but also take away the power he had over not only me but over his entire world. So instead of answering his question I started to quote what I knew would be his downfall. For the first time since I had met him I saw genuine fear in his eyes. He started to back away and I knew I had him right where I wanted him. Through dangers untold and hardship unnumbered I had fought my way there beyond the goblin city to take back the child that he had stolen. For my will was as strong as his and my kingdom was just as great."
"Why did you stop? Isn't there more to the quote?" Tina asked confused.
"Yes there was however I always seemed to forget that part.
"Sarah stop." He said more of a plead then a demand and I paused momentarily trying to remember the last part. As we talked he continually backed away from me. He pulled a Crystal ball out of thin air "look what I'm offering you. I'm offering me my dreams. I ask for so little. Just let me rule you and you can have everything. Just fear me. Love me do as I say and I will be your Slave."
"In other words he told you how to defeat him. He gave you the clue that he knew would wind up causing his downfall." Tina replied slightly confused.
"I didn't realize it at the time but yes he had. I continued to repeat the quote trying to remember the last part. I kept repeating the my kingdom is as great part and then it hit me and I looked directly at him. I realized that He had no power over me and that's exactly what I told him. "You have no power over me!
"My words echoed through the air. Realizing that he had lost there was a look of extreame sadness. As the clock began to strike 13 he threw the crystal up in the air and disappeared. Turning once again into a white owl flying off. I soon found myself back in my home downstairs. I watched curiously as a white owl flew around the room for a moment and then flew out the window. Immediately I thought of Toby and I rushed upstairs and into the nursery to check on Him. I was relived to find him sleeping soundly in his crib. Gently I stroked his hair and face and then turning toward the bed walked over to it and picked Lancelot up. So not to wake him I gently placed Lancelot next to Toby's arm and told him quietly that I'd like Lancelot to belong to him now and then i walked to the door and turned out the light."
"Then I walked into my room and started removing pictures of my mother from the mirror and place them into the draw and sar down in my chair. I also placed my music box and my labyrinth script in the draw."
"I heard the door open and my father call to me to see if I was home. Gently closing the draw I replied yes I'm home.
Suddenly I heard a "quiet goodbye Sarah." It sounded like Ludo I looked around the room but saw nothing so I turned my face back to the mirror.
Then I heard the quiet voice of Sir Diddimus and from my mirror saw him sitting on the edge of my bed "remember Sarah should you need us." And then he faded away.
And then Lastly Hoggle popped up along side my bed and replying said "yes should you need us. For anything all."
He was about to disappear I turned and looked directly at him and replied with tears in my eyes. "I need you Hoggle."
"You do?"'He asked cocking his head slightly
in surprise.
I replied "yes. I don't know why but every now and then in my life for no reason at all I need you." I paused then said "all of you."
Slightly supprise he replied again "you do? "Well why didn't you say so?" He said excitedly.
The thing I knew I turned and all my friends were in my room next to my bed. I ran over and gave them each a hug. First Hoggle, then sir Diddimus then Ludo and then I grabbed Hoggle and swung him around and into a big hug. I was so excited that I barely noticed a white owl sitting on the branch outside looking into my room. It paused for a moment and then flew off into the distance leaving me with my friends."
"The white owl was Jareth wasn't it?" Tina asked.
"I don't know. Perhaps. However, even if it was, I'm fairly certain that he felt that he wouldn't have been able to join our celebration. That he wouldn't have been welcome. I think that's why the owl turned and flew away." Sarah replied.
"Did you ever see the white owl again?"
"No." Sarah replied with a sigh.
"How about Hoggle and the others? Did you see them again?" Tina asked curious of the answer.
"Every once and a while I did but I haven't seen them in a very long time. I think I'm at the point in my life where I'm just too old to be able to see them anymore. It's kind of sad really. I do miss them and every once in a while I wish I could see them again if only for a moment."
"Mom, thanks for the wonderful story. I really needed it." Tina replied.
"Anytime." Sarah replied getting up from the bed and turning out the light. "Good night Tina. Sleep well and pleasant dreams." Sarah said as she turned out the light.
Tina sighed. "Goodnight mom." With that she drifted off to sleep and once again dreamed of Jareth and his wondrous kingdom.
