Chapter Six | Reunion

The rain fell on her face as she walked on the cement road. The road was empty, the sky dark. She started regretting her decision of walking out onto the road without a weapon. The roads weren't safe anymore. You were easily spotted by them. She brushes her hair off her face, removing the thought of what could happen.

She watched her wet, red tennis shoes as they took fast and steady steps. Her eyes moved back up to the road, revealing a tall man-like silhouette. She stopped walking and squinted at the man.

He was taking slow steps toward her, not usually how they walk. But she couldn't risk it. Swallowing hard, she tucked her hands inside of her navy sweatshirt, quickly turning around.

"Wait!" She hears the voice say behind her. She stops again. They can't talk, unless they're about to die and the affect is wearing off. She turns her head towards the man, who is very close now. He's human.

"Who are you?" She ask, trying to sound tough but her voice comes out much weaker.

"You don't remember me?" He steps out into the gleam of the moonlight. She looks closely at him. The rain is falling down hard, flattening his sandy brown hair down onto his face. His eyes almost look gray, and looking into them, she sees her own eyes.

Realization hits her, as she backs away from the man.

"Why are you here?" She says, her voice coming out harsher than she originally meant.

"I thought-" He starts, hurt flashing across his face.

"Well you thought wrong!" She states sternly, spinning around.

"Walker..."

"Don't Walker me! You left your eight year old sister alone and stranded. Alone for ten years! You just got up and left me without warning. You broke my eight year old heart. You-" She chokes on her own words, tears forming in her eyes.

"I came here to tell you I'm sorry. I was a selfish jerk. And I promise you I regretted the decision the minute I left." He tries explaining.

"Then why didn't you come back?" She growls.

"I..."

"Nothing's changed since then. You're really not sorry for leaving me, are you, Ashton? Don't come here and tell me you regretted your decision only to come back ten years later!" She turns, running away from him and the memories.
