That same night, while we were being drove home, the bus broke down. Gina and Lizzie stopped talking. I took my earbuds out and looked towards Tyler. He glanced at me and towards Vooch. We all piled out of the bus and outside to see what was wrong. "This'll take awhile, you guys should go make a fire and sit down." Vooch says and pulls the hood up. Smoke pours out of the bus. Sighing, I walked to a little area and collected things for a fire. Everyone helped make a fire.
Once the fire started, we all sat around it on logs. Tyler sat down next to me as the other three sat across from us. We all stared at the fire, silent.
As it got darker, it got colder. I searched through my bag, but there was no jacket and the fire wasn't helping. Sighing, I hugged my self in attempt to keep my self warm. "How's it going over there Vooch?" Tyler yelled. Vooch hit his head on the hood.
"Should be another 30 minutes!"
I groaned and shivered. Everyone else was smart enough to bring jackets. Tyler glanced over at my shivering body. "You okay?" He asked. Everyone looked towards us. I nodded. "Just cold. I'll be okay." I said as I shivered once again. Tyler pulled his jacket off and put it around my shoulders. The warmth of the jacket made me stop shivering real quick.
"You're going to be cold." I softly said. "I'm okay." He softly nodded. I slowly nodded and looked into the fire. "I can call my mom to pick us up, but then she wouldn't let me ride in the bus." Lizzie said. There was a moment of silence. "She's a worrier." Lizzie laughed.
"I'm kind of glad I'm sitting here. I'm not ready to tell my mom about today." Gina calmly said. "I thought it was exciting! We saved a person!" Eric said. We all looked at him. My eyebrow raised at his comment as I burrowed my self deeper into Tyler's jacket. Maybe he wasn't so bad.
"Okay it was a CPR dummy, but we saved a very expensive piece of equipment." Eric corrects himself. "I really thought someone was drowning." Gina mutters. "Hey, we all did. It's not your fault." Tyler says. "I know it's not, it's your fault! Because of you everyone thinks we're a joke!"
"No they don't!" Tyler defends himself. "Oh yeah they do! Trust me!" Eric smiles. He's always so nice, even when he's calling someone out.
"What's your deal anyway?" Lizzie asked. "I'm trying to get my self kicked out." He softly says. "Seriously? I've been begging my parents for years to let me come here..." Lizzie says and rambles on about her mom.
"I was just trying to get my step-dad off my back. He thinks I'm a screw up." Tyler confesses. "Then why are you taking it out on us?" Gina asks. I yawned as Tyler went to say something else. "I'm not! I wasn't even thinking about you guys!" Tyler exclaims. "Tyler! Ouch!" Eric says, placing his hand over his heart.
"I didn't mean it like that." Tyler defends. "You know, if you put as much effort as trying to get kicked out into trying to get in, you would do really good." I softly said. Tyler looks down at the fire, and then back up at me.
"I don't care! I didn't sign up for Junior Rescue just to build up lifeguard chairs. I want to be in shape for next season! I came to swim!" Gina exclaimed. "Can I lay my head on your shoulder? I'm kind of tired." I whispered to Tyler as Eric started talking. Tyler glanced at me and shook his head 'yes'. I nodded and laid my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes. "...because my dad said the couch was starting to get an indent that looks like my butt." Eric finishes. I burst out laughing, and so do the others.
When we calm down, there's a moment of silence before Tyler starts speaking. "I'm sorry guys."
"It's cool! We're all cool! Right?" Eric says. Even with my eyes closed, I could tell he was smiling. "Yeah, we're cool." Gina says. I nod on his shoulder to show that we're cool.
"This is so beautiful you guys!" Vooch says. I jump up off of Tyler's shoulder and look at Vooch. "Aren't you supposed to be working on the bus?" I asked. "Oh! It's been done." Vooch says. I groan and stand up, handing Tyler his jacket back. "You can keep it for the ride, I can tell you're probably going to need it." Tyler says as we walk back to the bus. "Thanks, I'll give it back at the end of the ride." I nod as I get on the bus and sit down in my seat.

I didn't get the chance to give Tyler his jacket back when I got off because I slept through him getting off. I strolled into the house with it on. "Who's is that?" My older brother asked. "My friend Tyler's. We got stuck because the bus broke down so I tried to take a nap but I got cold. So he let me use it, he never took it back though." I shrugged as I walked to my room. I took a quick shower, got some food, hung out for a bit, and went to bed after brushing my teeth. The jacket stared at me from the end of my bed. It made me think about what went down around the fire. I basically slept on Tyler, and he didn't even care!

The next morning, Tyler was very energetic. I told him I forgot his jacket on my bed, but I would return it to him as soon as I washed it for him.
"I'll wash it for you so it smells like apples." I laugh. "Thank you." He smiles at me. I nod and watch the road go by. We pick up Eric and the others and head to the beach!
While we were standing and waiting for Dylan, Dylan drove up, Tyler pulled the trash can out of her way. "Thanks." She said before taking her helmet off and shutting her scooter off. "No problem. We don't have time to pick up trash, we need to make up for yesterday." He explains. "Oh! That's unexpected, appreciated, but unexpected." Dylan laughs. "What do you say, 3 mile run?" She says, pulling a notecard out of her pocket. "Three mile run!"
"Tyler!" We all groaned and tilted our heads. "3 miles! Let's do it!" Tyler says before running. We all follow him. The next couple of hours were full of us training.

A couple days later at lunch, Brody angered Tyler.
"Man, somebody has to shut Brody up!" Tyler says, raising out of his seat on the bench. "Let it go." I say, pulling him back down. Lizzie starts using dark humor, but I zone out. My mind was on Tyler beside me, and I couldn't get him out. "Not this year! Tower one belongs to the Flounders!" Tyler says, standing up once again. I reach my hand up and pull him back down by the arm. Everyone but me and Tyler start laughing. "I don't know if you realized, but we're not Malibu's finest. Let's just focus on passing the Crucible." Eric says. "Yeah." Dylan agrees.
"We're just as good as anyone else here! Callie's really sweet, cheers us on, and pushes through obstacles, Gina's on the swim team, Lizzie's obsessed with first aid, Eric's really supportive." Tyler says. I blush at his comment about me. Why was mine so much longer than anyone else's?
"I just want you to know, I believe in you guys." Eric smiles. "Awe! Thanks!" Dylan says, hugging him. "We can win this! We have to! Even if it's just to shove it in Brody's face! Who's in?" Tyler asks while placing his hand in the middle of the table.. "I'm in!" I say as I put my hand over his. He glanced at me and smiled. Lizzie joins it, everyone else follows suit. "So if I say 1,2,3, while everyone say 'go flounders' after?" Tyler asks. We all pull our hands away. "Hard pass." I laughed.
