~Chapter 27~
(Emily's Point of View)
Fairy lights glowed in the sapphire moonlight music blanketing every corner of the room. Violins and Flutes made the atmosphere light as everyone danced with their respective partners. A feast of food lined the walls and people filled the room.
The merger between Montgomery Inc and Richmond Inc was being celebrated with a ball, Sala always wanted an excuse to show off the families money. All of the children of the Montgomery and Richmond families were invited, none of the rest of the group could make in inside.
Nate smiled down at me as we danced around on the room watching Sebastian and Sala across the room. We couldn't play against the King and Queen of the ball too soon otherwise we would be burned.
"You know you're a really horrible dancer Fenice." Nate smirked down at me as I stepped onto his toes once more.
Growing up as a child even with the amount of balls I had to attend I never could learn to put one foot in front of the other. If Caleb had been here I had no doubt that he would make a show of his own dance moves.
"You're a wonderful one Nate." I replied watching as he quickly side stepped the foot that almost collided with his shin. I looked towards him remorsefully hoping that he wouldn't hold it against me.
But he simply smiled back at me and continued to lead us around the grand ballroom. Our parents wouldn't make their merger complete just yet.
Flashback several hours ago...
"Please at least try to have fun at the party Em." I turned towards Sierra as I tried to slip on the dress she had picked out. I was sincerely reconsidering my choice of letting her choose an outfit for such an occasion.
"My entire future is solely dependent on Nate and I gaining the companies." I twirled around in silver dress that Sierra had chosen for me, the front was tame while the dress was completely backless.
"But you have time before you make your move Em." She paused slightly getting up to meet me and twirled like she wore her own dress, "The Lights, The Music, The Love."
She wiggled her eyebrows at me slightly with her own signature smile, "Experiencing it all with Nate."
"Experiencing it all with lurking Ex-parents." I muttered underneath my breath as I went to stand in the mirror.
"What were you thinking for make-up?" Sierra began to pull out make-up from her drawers as she sat me down in front of the make-up mirror.
"No way, I'm not letting you choose this I was already taking a chance on the make-up." She smacked me playfully in the arm while handing over the makeup. She watched me apply my makeup from the bed with a soft smile.
"The dress looks beautiful on you Em, a real show stopper."
End of Flashback...
"You know Sierra made me promise her that I'd give you a night to remember." Nate leaned down and whispered into my ear while his hand caressed my naked back.
"Funny she made me promise the same thing." I looked up at him while trying still not to trip over my own feet, although I only ended up tripping slightly on his feet.
"Are you having fun tonight Emily." His eyes locked with mine and for a moment the prissy people that surrounded us disappeared. My own Emerald eyes reflected back at me through his own as we swayed to the music. His hair swept down into his face as he watched me carefully leading me in the dance.
"I always do when I'm with you Nate." I replied with my own smile towards him turning my head a bit to get the strand of hair out of my face.
"May I cut in?" Michael appeared beside us wearing a goofy grin winking at me in a teasing way.
"Of course Bro Biscuit." I shot a warm glance to Nate before taking my hand and placing it in Mich's hand. We danced around the room chatting about old times and I knew that he was just trying to keep me from thinking about our mission.
"Did you choose Nate, Sista?" He asked me watching Nate walk off the dance floor waiting for the two of us to be finished.
"I chose him a long time ago Mich." I paused watching Nate come into view again as we turned to the music. "You know that."
"We both took a long time to get where we are."
"Always holding back fearing that we wouldn't make it?" I wondered out loud for him to hear as the music began to turn sharper. I tried to follow my brother's fast footwork but it appeared that he forgot that I was clumsy as hell when it came to dancing.
"Denying our feelings maybe to?" He pondered out his own thought and I knew at least on some level he was right.
Another glance at Nate reminded me of our time before Allen and before I knew he was Allen. I thought he was infuriating and a playboy, yet he always made sure that I saw him in another light.
"You told me you could handle this job, I think you've proven just that standing up to me." He replied watching my reaction and then to seal the deal he asked me one more time, "So can you handle it, Emily?"
I had risen to the occasion of living with him and working with him, but I found myself drawn in because of his looks and complex personality. I had failed in resisting his temptations time and time again, I had fallen in love with him long before I found out who he was.
"You alright?" Mich questioned noticing that I had nodded off a bit wondering in my thoughts. I nodded slightly before my face turned into one of both shock and appreciation as he pushed me towards Nate.
"Go spend more time with him before we take down out Ex-Parents." I nodded with a bright smile before treading towards the man I always had my eyes on.
"Crawling back daughter?" I cursed the ground I walked wishing I had stayed with my brother on the dance floor. I knew eventually she would have cornered me but I had hoped to avoid her for the entire evening.
"Sala." I gave her a tight eyes closed smile while cordially greeting her, I had to keep my teeth at bay for just a bit longer.
"Don't you mean Mother, Daughter?" I looked her up and down slightly watching her body language before meeting her eyes once more. She wasn't worth an ounce of my time, even a few minutes was worthless.
"Non, Je voulais dire Sala." I spoke in French knowing fully well that she couldn't speak it before walking away making sure to add a set of sassiness to anger her.
I made my way over to Nate drinking in him with his dark grey suit on and the teasing smirk on his lips. I strutted over to him letting him gather me into his arms.
"You alright love?" I raised my eyebrows slightly at the new nickname, watching amusement run through his eyes.
"Love?" I questioned slightly standing up on my toes to get closer to his face.
"What miss Fenice?" The lights reflected off his blue eyes making them like a shimmering sea drawing me in.
I leaned in to give him a kiss muttering, "Of course Chimere." Just before our mouths connected I felt two pairs of eyes on us.
"It's time you two." Sophie spoke just quiet enough for only us to hear, the light music provided some cover.
Harris put his hand on my shoulder, his eyes boring into mine for a couple of moments. A small smile graced my lips, with a small nod I turned away from the two and took Nate's hand in mine.
"You ready Fenice?" I looked towards Nate for a moment as we made our way towards my Ex-Parents.
"With you by my side? Always." I leaned into his chest for a moment before we finally arrived right in front of the people I wanted to see the least.
"Daughter, Swine." My father looked right towards Nate with a distasteful glance.
"We need to talk Sebastian." I responded forcefully not wanting to deal with his bull crap for longer than I needed to.
"Why would I-" He began to reject my request only for Nate to interrupt him with a snarl.
"You will talk to us. Privately." He gritted out his muscles tensing behind me his suit rippling. I gave his hand a gentle squeeze from behind our backs where our hands were together.
"This way." Sebastian broke away from Sala as she went off to entertain more of their guests. He led us into one of the lobbies of the building.
"Now then what is this all-" Before he could get another word through his foul mouth I took the papers out of my purse and handed them to him with a smirk.
"What is the meaning of this?" I smiled watching for the first time as my father fell apart in front of me.
His eyes narrowing in pure hatred at the contract his hands shook crinkling it under his grasp. Before my mother gave me her shares I owned thirty percent of the company.
But my mother owned the other seventy percent, even though my father always acted like he had. When they shipped her away they thought they could hid the fact that she owned the majority of the company.
My Grandfather has given her the shares in exchange for marrying his son and to provide him an heir.
But now I was the sole owner of the company, and watching Sebastian realize this sent Sparks through my body. Pure happiness bubbles throughout me glancing at Nate to find a smirk settling on his face.
"You are no longer the CEO of Montgomery Inc. have your things out of my office by tomorrow." I began leaving the copies with him.
I looked back at him once more, "Neither me nor Sophie will be marrying the men you picked out. You no longer hold any power over us."
The moment we got out of his sight I called my real dad seeing if he bought the Richmond company. It ringed twice before his voice bellowed through the phone.
"Guess who's the knew owner of two million dollar companies?" I laughed at my father's song song voice feeling giddy myself.
"You got it!" I turned towards Nate forgetting the voice on the other side of the phone.
"He got it!" Nate's arms immediately grasped me as I jumped into his arms, twirling me around the hallway.
Gently he placed me back onto the floor with his arm around my waist. He pulled my body flush against his and dipped his head down to the crock of my neck.
Laughter bubbled between us as we finally, finally had something going right. The stubble that was beginning to grow on his face tickled my neck making me squirm against him.
"Need me to shave Fenice?" He questioned but I rapidly shook my head no with giggles still escaping my throat.
"No I like the stubble." I muttered grasping his hair and running my fingers through the soft locks.
"Well I like you my sweet," he paused placing a kiss on my neck, "incredible," again a pause as he kissed higher up.
"Beautiful," another placed just below my lips, "Amazing girlfriend." My heart jumped into my throat and I took in a sharp breath. It was the first time he ever called me that.
"I love you Nate." I whispered before his lips met mine full of passion.
"I love you to Emily." He gave me one more peck before pulling me towards the ballroom once more. Reluctantly I followed knowing we needed to gather the rest of our troops.
"Let's go conquer the world Fenice." He held out his hand, his was smooth against mine.
We walked towards the ballroom with happiness and love circling between us. With his hand in mine we walked towards the future, towards our lifetime.

Don't worry the story isn't over yet, but the story is coming to a close. But is one more twist coming along the way before the pair can get their happy ending?
