Chapter 7

I sat on the couch watching one of my favorite cartoons as I sipped on a Coke. I was at home, my eomma smiled as she made dinner in the kitchen, I had my favorite plush, and everything was perfect.

My mom came in smiling and handed me a bowl of soup. I grinned as she sat on the couch next to me, Benji doing laying soundly by my feet. The two of us switched to watching one of our favorite movies. After it was finished, she got up and went to start the dishes.

Except, I never heard the water turn on. Before I knew it, there was a gun shot, landing straight in the wall, two inches above the TV. The door was kicked down, and I grabbed Benji and ran up those stairs as fast as I could.

However, when I went to shut my door, someone pushed against it, harshly."Y/N! It's me!"

I opened the door and Felix came in, slamming & locking the door behind him. "Look, Y/N. We don't have a lot of time right now. You need to wake up, and hurry." A gunshot barreled through the door, and I watched him fall limply to the ground. Screams surrounded me, and everything went black.

I sat up and screamed. The image of Felix's lifeless body was circling in my brain like a sick carousel of torment. I closed my eyes and covered my ears, hoping to rid my mind of the sounds of the gunfire.

Then I realized.

It wasn't in my mind.

I threw off my covers and ran to the bathroom, shivering in fear and confusion. I heard yelling from outside of my bedroom, and none of the voices sounded like any of the guys, causing me to grow more concerned. I heard my phone go off in my room and immediately ran out to grab it.

Jisungie calling......

"Y/N stay in your room and please for the love of everything do not come out, not unless it's with one of us. Got it?!"

The lack of breath and alarming fear in his voice heightened my worries.

"Ji what the hell is going on out there?!?!!"

"I'll tell you as soon as I can, Y/N. But for now, lock your balcony doors and your bedroom door, and do not open them for anyone! Absolutely no one!"

"I got it. Be safe, Hannie."

As soon as Jisung hung up the phone, I ran to my balcony doors, locking them as fast as possible, before running to my bedroom door and doing the same. I went back to my bed & grabbed my kangaroo plushie.

I began pacing around the floor of my room, back and forth, in a continuous motion to try and drown out the sounds of brutality coming from outside of my door. Usually, in these nerve-wracking situations, I would play music. But this time I couldn't, because that would bring even more attention to me, thanks to my phone going off. I wanted to put my headphones in but I couldn't do that either, in case one of the boys called again.

I sat down on the floor inside of my closet and let the tears come flowing out. They ran down my cheeks & into my lap, refusing to be stopped. Each attempt to breathe was met with a hiccup, it reminded me of how much I cried the day Eomma first hit me. Benji laid next to me, his head in my lap.

It wasn't long before I got up and started pacing again. If this was the situation, I'd be damned if I didn't have something to defend myself with. I ran frantically around my bedroom, tears still pouring out as I searched for something, anything that would be useful. Despite my erratic searching, I eventually came across a leather ouch that was about a foot long. There was a note on the outside:

In case of emergency, open.

I opened the bag, and inside was a knife. The sharp weapon had a 7 inch blade and the handle was brass knuckles. Then, I began to plan, as the sounds of the gunshots were closing in. There was a small cubby hole in my closet that led to a small room Felix & I had discovered when we were putting everything together. I grabbed my phone & the knife, calling for Benji, who ran in right behind me, as I closed the door to my closet. I walked over and slid my dresser over, taking the key from its string on the back of said dresser. I moved the keyhole cover over, unlocking the seemingly nonexistent door and pushed it inward.

I had hidden snacks and water in here, as well as a pillow, a blanket, and Chan's sweater just a few days ago. I set the knife & phone down by my pillow before I called Benji in. He was scared out of his wits, my poor baby.

As soon as Benji was in the room, I crawled on my knees back over to the door and pulled my dresser as close I could to the door before shutting & locking it, pocketing the key.

I crawled back over to Benji, who sat by the pillow and blanket, shaking with his tail between his legs. I sat down, rolled out the blanket and covered my lap before Benji crawled into it and I began to pet him.

I turned my phone on Silent with the screen up. With my knife in one hand & the other petting Benji, I waited.

It wasn't long before the crashing of glass resounded through my bedroom. I heard Felix groan and whimpered quietly, suddenly very scared for my friend. There was the crunching sound of someone stepping across the broken glass, and then three gunshots. I put my hand over my mouth.

Please don't be him. Please don't be Felix.

"Y/N! Where are you?!" He shouted frantically, his voice hoarse but alive with emotion. I heard the sound of breaking wood, followed by three more gunshots.

My closet door opened slowly and I gripped my knife even harder than I originally was.

The dresser moved over.

Nonononononono no this is not happening to me right now.

"Y/N? It's me. If you're in there, we need to get you out, now."

I scrambled toward the door, leaving my phone behind as I put the knife in the bag and cradled Benji to my chest. I unlocked the door and Felix helped me up.

He looked much worse for wear, and the fear in his eyes was blinding.

He pushed me towards the door and we ran, hurrying down the hall and hiding behind a turned-over table. How ironic.

"Y/N. I'm gonna count from three." He pulled an ear plug out of his pocket and popped it in and suddenly, I could hear everyone's voices, including his. He covered it up my hair.

"When I count from three, you're going to run as fast as you can and hide behind the island in the kitchen. Okay? You're going to make it."

Across our Stray-Kids network, I hear words of encouragement across the sounds of fighting, but one stands out to me the most.

"You've got this, Baby! You will be okay no matter what"

Chan.

I could do this. I would do this. I had to do this. I took a deep breath in as I scooted closer to the edge of the table.

"Three...."

My heart rate quickened but my breathing stayed calm.

"Two....."

I took a deep breath and turned around, taking one last look at Felix.

"One!!"

With Benji in my arms and the knife bag around my wrist, I sprinted wildly toward the kitchen, immediately shrinking down next to the island.

I clutched the knife at my side and set Benji down gently next to me. "Whatever happens, Benni, run with me. Run with me as fast as you can, Ok?" I whispered. I don't know what part of me it was, but I just knew he understood me.

I heard footsteps and shuddered with fear, gripping my knife harder as I reached over to pet Benji, refusing to move from where I was seated.

Like a spook in the night, I felt a hand grip my shoulder, and I tried desperately to pull away.

"Y/N!!! Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N it's me!"

I turned around and I was met with Hyunjin's gaze, almost as afraid as Felix was.

"We need to get you to the safe room. Let's go." I handed Benji to him and readied my knife as I stood up. "I'm right behind you, Jinnie. Let's go."

As we got ready to run, I heard footsteps approach from behind me. I ran in front of Hyunjin and he shot the attacker dead on, causing him to drop to the floor almost instantaneously.

In a split second, Hyunjin and I began running towards a door that was barely on its hinges. As soon as the crisp, cool air hit my face, I realized we were going out into the backyard. As we ran, I saw Chan & Jisung, back to back, facing off three of the enemy men. A few feet away, Changbin was kicking someone twice his height to the ground. An overwhelming worry filled my heart as I realized that I hadn't seen Jeongin, Felix, Seungmin or Minho yet, but I couldn't shout for anybody without the risk of drawing more attention to us.

We ran back in through an entrance to the lab, after Hyunjin had to kick down the door. After re-securing everything, Minho emerged from behind a corner with his gun raised.

"Oh thank God you guys are okay! Boys we're okay." Minho called to the other guys.

Seungmin ran out and engulfed me in a warm, tight hug. From behind me, Jeongin joined. I spun around as Hyunjin began briskly making his way towards a roof exit. "Be careful!" The four of us shouted.

I turned around to face Jeongin and let out a small gasp. "Innie, you're bleeding!!" He gently touched his hand to his head and sucked in a breath.

"It only stings a little bit, Noona. It's ok."

I shook my head, immediately pulling the Maknae's to a nearby hospital bed while I searched for bandages, leaving Seungmin and Minho to talk. I found some medical supplies in a drawer at a nearby desk and frantically ran back to Jeongin, gently cleaning and wrapping his cut.

As tears filled his eyes, I pulled him into my arms and he sobbed into my shoulder. I gently ran my fingers through his hair and let him cry.

"I'm scared, Y/N. I'm scared for everyone."

I heard a distress signal go out through the headset, and Seungmin ran to go sit in front of the giant computer, with Minho hot on his trail. With focused eyes, he began typing rapidly. Meanwhile, as the muffled sounds of gunfire continued rumble, I began to look around the room. I spotted what looked like an older hospital bed, but this one had someone laying on it.

As I looked a bit closer, my chest tightened.

It was Felix.

I ran to his side and laced my fingers through his. With the other hand, I checked his pulse. He was laying still and his eyes were shut. Other than the agonizingly minimal rise & fall of his chest, I couldn't see any movement, which terrified me to no end.

Seungmin walked over to us and put a hand on my shoulder. "He's okay, Y/N. His vitals are fine, a couple bruises and a pretty bad concussion, but he should be OK."

I couldn't help but feel guilty as I looked back at him.

I'm so sorry Lixie.......

I never should have left you behind..

I relaxed a little bit, and even as Seungmin came to change out Felix's bandages and give him a drip, I never let go of his hand. Jeongin's crying calmed down a bit and he went to take a nap on one of the not-in-use beds.

Someone came from around the corner and I noticed Minho take a worried look at Jeongin. He walked over and sat down, rubbing his back. I.N lifted his head off of the hospital pillow and laid it onto his hyung's lap.

Seungmin's fingers rushed across the keyboard as I watched the giant monitor register the motions. It appeared as though he was attempting to cut off the enemy's communications with each other. It took a few minutes of breaking through impressive firewalls, but he succeeded. He stretched his arms out and looked to us with a tired smile on his face.

It felt like hours, but when the gunshots finally stopped, I didn't even notice. My left hand was still interlocked with Felix's right hand, and despite Minho, Jeongin and Seungmin's best efforts, they had been unable to move me. A few times, I had been moving my thumb in small circles next to his IV, and he had stirred, but he never fully woke up.

The door burst open and Minho & Seungmin jumped to their feet, guns at the ready as the guarded Jeongin, Felix and myself.

However, when an emotionally broken Han fell to his knees, followed by Changbin with Hyunjin's arm slung over his shoulder, their weapons dropped to the floor. Minho rushed to Jisung's side as Seungmin rushed to grab Hyunjin from Changbin.

And then Bin noticed me, my tired, worried eyes staring back at him as he registered whose hand I was holding.

He rushed to the same side of the bed and fell to his knees, tears threatening to overflow. He turned to me, and I let go of Felix's hand, reaching to the bedside railing for support as I lifted myself up.

Nothing would have prepared me for what I heard next.

"Y/N noona," a sobbing Jisung called out to me. "I'm so sorry......I couldn't- I couldn't do anything....I'm so sorry."

I ran over to his other side, seeing as Minho was still rubbing his back. I held his hand.

"Han. Whatever happened, I'm sure it wasn't your fault."

Hyunjin looked up from a nearby chair as Seungmin finished putting a splint around his knee, Benji by their feet. "They took him, Y/N."

A giant rock formed in my stomach and my breathing quickened as I finally registered who was missing from this bruised family photo.

"They took Chan-hyung."

I don't know who said it. And I don't know what happened next. All I remember is everything going to black.
