(y/n) - your name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Y/n) silently cheered Billy on as he kept getting scores, clapping for him inconspicuously to not get any more hatred from the girls around her as Billy smirked her way. He liked being cheered on by (y/n) even if it was in secret. Billy was pummelling the other team, one of the guys running out to grab Steve to bring him back to the game but when he did, he stormed towards his stuff.

He was pissed off, confirming that Nancy never actually loved him and that their relationship was bullshit actually hurt. He was upset and frustrated and (y/n) noticed the sad look on his face.

"Steve?" She mumbles out, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Are you ok?"

"No, no I'm not ok." Steve sighs out and (y/n) frowns.

Billy watched with gritted teeth as (y/n) and Steve left the gym together. She said that there was nothing between them so what was this bullshit?

(Y/n) waited for Steve outside the school when he was done taking a shower and getting dressed, him standing next to her with a solemn look once he was done. The two went over to Steve's car and sat on the hood, (y/n) waiting for him to rant whenever he was ready.

"She never loved me (y/n)... I talked to her and she couldn't even say it back to me..."

"I'm so sorry." Steve sighs out, running his fingers through his hair.

"What do I do?"

"I mean from what little context I got, everything can't go back to how it was in the past. You can't forget what happened and just move on. Some people need closure first before they can invest their time in someone else."

"I feel terrible (y/n), maybe I should've helped Nancy when she wanted to come clean."

"That's in the past now. From what I can tell, Nancy is independent and I think she's already going off to do that."

"What should I do?"

"How do you feel about her?"

"I love her, I still love her even though we're broken up..."

"I'm sure she loves you too but she needs time first. She needs closure with Barbara and I think you also need the time to reflect."

"I guess I've never been good about being there for others or showing them I care..." Steve starts to rant, going on about how his dad never acknowledged him or cared about him unless he got good grades. (Y/n) just listened quietly, letting Steve spill everything he was feeling until they both sat in silence.

"Better?" (Y/n) asks and Steve chuckles, nodding.

"Better. Thank you so much (y/n), I don't know what I'd do without you here."

"Wallow in sadness?" The two laugh happily, hearing students walk out of the school once the basketball game was over.

Billy was looking around for (y/n) but stopped when he saw her and Steve laughing together and he narrowed his eyes at them. He hated this, hated how the two were all buddy buddy.

Fine, two can play this game.

Billy looked over at the giggling group of girls, flashing them his infamous bad boy smirk before walking over to one of them. "Hello beautiful, I've seen you around and I had to come say hi."

"Oh! Hi Billy." The girl smiles back as he twirls a lock of her hair around his finger.

"How about you and me go somewhere together."

"Sure!" The girl gasps and she follows after Billy like a love struck puppy.

(Y/n) saw Billy walk towards his car with some girl following him. He looked at Steve next to her with a furious look and (y/n) turned to see Steve glaring back at Billy. The two sneered at each other as Billy got in his car, snapping at the girl and she quickly gets in before he drove off.

"Fucking asshole..." Steve mutters out.

"Damn... guess I'm walking home." (Y/n) grumbles out, thinking about driving her car from now on instead of saying yes to Billy picking her up and dropping her off if he ditched her like this.

"He was your ride?"

"Unfortunately." (Y/n) jumps off Steve's car, grabbing her stuff to walk but he stops her.

"I can drop you home."

"Really? Like are you sure?"

"Yeah, it's totally cool."

"Thank you so much!" Steve smiles as the two got in his car, driving off from school. "Hey, actually, I was thinking we could do something today." (Y/n) wanted to help cheer up Steve, help him not think about Nancy.

"Like?"

"Let's go to the mall or something. Or watch a movie."

"Oh! There's a new thriller on tonight."

"Then let's go watch it!" Steve grins at (y/n) seeing her so excited to see the movie and he was grateful for her cheering him up.

~~~~~~~~
"Billy! Billy! Billy!" The student body cheered as the star basket player once again managed to get nothing but net. (Y/n) was watching with the rest of the students on the bleachers, spending their after school time to see the teams have a rematch.
Billy stole the ball from Steve, blocking his advances as Steve shoved against him. Billy laughed, standing up straight and simply dribbling as Steve stood in front of him in defence.
"All right! All right, all right! King Steve! King Steve everyone!" Billy mocks him, smirking. "I like it. Playing tough today!"
"Jesus! Do you ever stop talking!? Come on!" Steve grits out in annoyance and Billy just laughs at him.
"What? You afraid the couch is gonna bench you now that I'm here? Huh?"
"And are you just being a cocky ass cause (y/n) likes hanging out with me more than you!?" Steve snaps back and Billy growls, an obvious nerve being hit and he charges forward. He knocks Steve over hard and gets another score, glancing at (y/n) who raised a brow at him.
Billy groans and goes to help Steve up, grabbing his hand. "Stay away from (y/n). She's too good for you." Billy hissed out before shoving Steve back on the ground and walking over him.
(Y/n) watches the whole interaction, both boys looking over at her until they separated and walked to the showers after the game ends.
What is it with these two and talking about me?
(Y/n) grabs her stuff and walks out to the school car park, stopping at Billy's car to talk to him. She leaned against the hood, arms crossed as she waited for him until she saw Max walking up to the car.
"Hey Max." She ruffles her red hair, noticing the annoyed look on her face. Not from messing up her hair, but from something else. "Been a while since we talked so what's up? Has those boys been bugging you?"
"Yes and no." The girl groans out as she leans against the car next to (y/n). "I'm friends with them now, or so I thought. They welcomed me into their group but it doesn't feel like it cause they're just keeping secrets from me!"
"Well, secrets are personal things. You wouldn't want people to know your secrets know would you?"
"But they're my friends! They should trust me."
"It's not about trust, it's about how comfortable they are to reveal themself to you. If they believe that you won't hurt them or they won't hurt you, then they will tell you the secret. It's hard now but give them some time to come to you and talk. I have a feeling these guys are serious about being able to tell you this secret or not." Max huffs out but nods.
"Max?" The two girls look up to see a kid Maxes age ask for her and (y/n) recognise him as one of the boys that first stalked Max but was now friends with her. "Can I talk to you please? Privately."
"What's your name kid."
"Uh, Lucas..."
"(Y/n) nice to meet you. Now Max, I already know she'll kick your ass if you go against her but even so, I'll back her up. Got it." Lucas nods quickly and Max walks off with him for their little chat.
"What are you doing here?" Billy asks as he sees (y/n) lean against his car and ignoring the stares everyone was giving her.
"Waiting for you." (Y/n) narrows her eyes at him. "What is going on with you and Steve?"
"What's going on with you and him!?" Billy snaps back.
"We're just friends! I'm helping him with his relationship issue with Nancy! Which I'm pretty sure everyone knows about now since that Tommy dude didn't shut up about her running off with Jonathan since yesterday."
"Yeah, the local princess went off with the local freak-"
"-do not call my friends that!" (Y/n) hissed out and Billy blinks at her. "Only I know the reason why they skipped and Tommy should just go to fucking hell or mind his own goddamn business! Now what the fuck is going on between you and Steve? Why are you so mad at me?"
"He's around you all the time!"
"Friends hang out! Simple!" Billy laughs darkly.
"You don't even notice the way he looks at you!"
"There is no way! He loves Nancy! I'm just trying to cheer him up about the breakup!"
"You really are blind!" Billy scoffs as he pushes (y/n)'s glass further up her nose.
"And you're an asshole! He's my friend Billy! My friends are everything to me!"
"Then what about me?" He hisses lowly, trying to keep his voice down as he leans down over (y/n). "What are we? What am I to you? What are you to me!?" the last question rattles Billy and he looks down at (y/n) as she stared up at him with wide eyes.
"I-you..." Billy sighs and backs off before getting in his car to turn the engine on. (y/n) jumps off before she could get run over as Max runs over to the car to get in, Billy driving off without another word.
What was she to him?
What was he to her?
