(y/n) - your name

Billy walked down the aisle to head to the alcohol section, stopping short in his path as the girl from across the street just walked past him with a trolley of food and kitchen utensils. She just walked past him, not even glancing at him like she didn't see him. Her hood was down as her hair fell over her shoulders, messy and ruffled like she just got out of bed without even fixing herself. Billy scoffed in disgust, walking behind her cause apparently she was getting some alcohol too. He went to grab some bottles and a six-pack while he looked over and saw the girl only grabbing vodka and tequila.

"Damn she's a strong weight..." Billy mumbled seeing the number of bottles his neighbour grabbed to put in her trolley. He watched as she pushed up her glasses and tucked her hair back, nimble fingers grabbing the handle to walk past him. She finally looked up and saw Billy, him raising a brow beneath his sunnies as she just gave him no reaction while walking past him. She didn't even acknowledge him. Billy turned around stunned but also agitated. No one ignores him, no one simply walks away from him like that. Billy followed the girl subtly as she went to a checkout, standing behind her to also pay for his stuff.

(y/n) knew her across the street neighbour was behind her but decided to ignore it. She was so done being out in society already and just wanted to go home. She had to clean up and get cooking for the next week or so. She also needed to plan out an outfit that 1. wouldn't end up her being picked on by bullies, not like she has experienced being bullied, and 2. would let her blend in and not stick out so much that everyone ignore her.

As she was ready to pay, the cashier was giving her the stinkeye while packing the alcohol. "Do you have an ID?"

Fuck...

(y/n) being underage didn't have that ID. She thought that her looks of seemingly being older and this being a small town not giving two shits about its citizens would look past her buying alcohol. Oh, she was screwed.

"That's for me. She was getting it ready for me to pay." (y/n) freezes as her neighbour stands next to her, showing his ID and the cashier nods. He takes the alcohol from the neighbour's hands and adds it to (y/n)'s groceries as Billy paid for the full thing in whole. "Stop gawking and help me with these fucking bags." Billy snaps as he takes a couple and (y/n) jumps into movement to take the rest. They walk out from the store a couple of feet before putting the stuff down on a bench and (y/n) takes out what she owed to her neighbour.

"Thanks. Didn't think this town gave a shit about who was buying alcohol but I guess I was wrong..."

Oh, so she speaks.

Billy rolls his eyes but now knew his neighbour wasn't mute. "Now we're even."

(y/n) nodded knowing what her neighbour meant and looked at him. "Put your hand out." Billy raised an eye at the strange girl before doing so and she places money in his hands.

"Now we're truly even." She mumbles out before sorting her bags from her neighbours and taking her stuff, walking away from him. Billy was bemused but shook his head before grabbing his stuff and heading to his car.

~~~~~~~~
(y/n) hummed along with the music that was blasting in her house, her lips quirked up in the smallest of smiles as she cooked herself some dinner and some lunch for tomorrow as well as something to last her the next couple of days before she had to cook again. The window in the kitchen was opened, the music drifting down the street which hopefully didn't bother the neighbours as a lovely aroma drifted in the air.
Billy was working out in his room, his own music playing when he smelt something. It wasn't horrible like Susan's cooking or the booze that rolled off Neil, it was nicer. It was so much nicer. He sat up, realising that his stomach rumbled when Neil banned him off to his room after a heated argument without dinner.
"BILLY!" the boy sighed in annoyance when Neil yelled for him, putting on a shirt before turning off his music and walking down to the living room where the shitstain redhead and the two adults stood waiting for him.
"Yes?" Billy grinded his teeth, reminding himself to be respectful to Neil.
"Go to the new neighbour across the street and introduce yourself. Susan made them a casserole." Neil says and Susan passes the large dish to Max who was apparently going as well. Billy wanted to say why but simply nodded and walked off with Max quickly running after him, his hands shoved in his pockets. He was beyond annoyed but it slowly faded away when he realised the nice smell was coming from the strange girl's house. Max went to knock on the door and the two waited for a response, hoping the neighbour heard them over the loud music.
(y/n) paused hearing knocking that was off-beat to the music, pausing her stereo and waited for the knocking again to make sure she wasn't crazy. There it was again, the knocking on her front door. "Who is it!?" she yelled out, cautious as she went to check her peephole after locking the windows that were open.
"Hi, we're your neighbours from across the street, Max and Billy!" (y/n) recognised her blonde neighbour except for the tiny redhead in the peephole but opened the door for them. "Hi." The little girl said again, already uninterested in her neighbour but Billy was intrigued. He looked over her in a baggy shirt and tights, hair tied up with what seemed to be like flour coating random spots on her skin and clothes.
"What's this?" (y/n) pointed at the large dish in the little girl's arms as she pushed her glasses up.
"My mum made a casserole for you and to welcome you to the neighbourhood."
"Oh, uh thanks I guess... Max..." (y/n) took the dish and she noticed her blonde neighbour sniffing around. She needed some taste testers anyway. "You two can come in if you want."
"What are you making?" Max instantly asked as she walked in, smelling the air and her stomach rumbled.
"Shoes off first. I don't want to clean the carpets." (y/n) says and that stops Max and Billy who quickly take their shoes off. "And I'm making lasagna. Do you guys want to try some?" Max gasps and quickly nods her head in excitement as Billy stood by the doorway with his arms crossed. He narrowed his eyes at the strange girl who took out a large pan from her oven and he was hit with a delicious smell but he was a man. He wouldn't break and just say yes while the little shitstain redhead took a seat at the small kitchen table with no second thought.
(y/n) served Max and Billy, who she figured was the name of her blonde neighbour, putting down two plates on the table and Max dived to eat the lasagna. "This is so good!" Max exclaims and Billy ignored his untouched plate as he looked around the house. It was... empty but at the same time not... Sure there was a TV and some CDs and stuff with a shelf of books but there were no decorations or anything remotely interesting about the strange girl. He turned back around to see that (y/n) had her back turned to him, cutting into the lasagne and he took the chance to take the plate without her looking.
Holy fucking shit...
Either Billy was just hungry or this lasagna was good, really good. "How is it? Anything I need to change or add?" (y/n) asked, turning around to see the two siblings enjoying her food.
"Nope! It's spicy but it's a good kind of spice." Max says as she puts her plate in the sink and (y/n) goes to try a piece from the dish.
"Hmm... not enough spice..."
"Not enough!? I think it was a good amount." Max shrugs her shoulder.
"I like my food with a little more flavour but thank you. I'm not great at cooking so I'm just following a recipe book." Billy looks over at the open cookbook as he finishes his piece and he wondered how something so good just came out of a plain cookbook. "Gimme." (y/n) takes the empty plate from Billy and places another slice for him before handing it back as she went to clean up her kitchen. Max was asking her questions about how she made the lasagna as Billy stood still in surprise, looking down at his plate.
He was confused about why this girl gave him more. Neil would've pounded him in for taking more than he was given saying he didn't deserve it. So why did she give him more? Why was she going out of her way to feed him?
"I forgot to ask, what's your name?" Max asks and Billy listens intently.
"Uh, I'm (y/n)."
