Run

Fear, that's all I felt as I watched the man getting beat up. I couldn't do anything, it was like I was frozen in time and the only thing I could do was watch as he was tortured. They continued to beat him up until he was laying on the ground, barely breathing.

Just as they were beginning to leave, my phone decided to go off. I watched in horror as the two men who were beating up the boy, turned around and started running after me. I couldn't do anything, it was like my feet would not work. As the guys got closer I watched as the man that was just beaten up, get off of the ground and go after the two guys. It was then that my feet decided to work. I turned around as fast as I could and I started to run. It was like being chased by my brothers all over again; the only difference was that my brothers were playing, and these guys were ready to kill. My legs were burning and my breath was running out, but I did not stop; I couldn't. The thought of death kept me headed far away from what could have potentially been the last beckoning moment of my human existence.

As I was running I tried to think of the best way to go home. I had no car, and the way I usually went home was the way from which I had just come. I knew I would have to stop at some point. My legs felt as if they would collapse at any moment, and my lungs were screaming for me to stop running and let them get oxygen. I turned the street corner to hopefully find something that would help me, but the only thing I found was a restaurant and a dead end. I thought about turning around and going down the other road but I heard footsteps coming my way, so I went into the restaurant as fast as my legs would carry me. When I entered the restaurant I went straight to the bathroom and decided to hide and call the police.

"This is 911 how may I help you?"

"I-I-I n-need help!"

"Where are you mam, and what's going on."

" I'm at some restaurant, I don't know where."

" Mam, I need for you to look and tell me."

" I can't there are two men chasing me, and I'm hiding in the bathroom to get away"

" Okay, you are going to have to tell me why."

" There were two guys beating up another person, and before they left my phone rang and they turned around and saw that I was watching them. When they saw me staring at them they started to chase after me.Then the guy that was beaten up got up and started to run after them. I started running, after the man that was beaten got up.

"Did you see if they were still following you?"

" No, I never stopped to see if they were still following me, I just kept going."

"Okay, miss we are sending the police please stay on the phone."

"Thank you."

After about ten minutes, the police were at the restaurant and asking me questions. I answered all of the questions I could, which wasn't a lot. When they were done they asked for my phone number and asked if I needed a ride to my house.

When I arrived home I thanked the police officer for making sure I got home safe, and walked in my apartment door and locked it. "This day has been nuts!", I yelled out. No one heard me though. I live by myself.

My parents died when I was younger. When they passed, they left me with my two older brothers. It was nice living with them, but it was also hard. We didn't have a lot and I was ten so I couldn't get a job. One of my older brothers was fifteen and the other was eighteen. We didn't have any other relatives that we knew of. John the oldest took care of us as best as he could, while getting a job. It was sad to see him drop out of art school for us. I knew he loved art school. Zander was so stressed out going to school and working that he eventually gave up and stopped going to high school at the age of sixteen.

I went to school with the help of them and graduated from college. But that was twelve years ag., I'm now twenty-two years old, and my brothers are both gone. They died from a horrible car crash three years ago. Well, that is what I was told. I never got to see their bodies, nor was there a funeral. All of the money that was in the will that was supposed to go to John soon went to me. I kept most of the money that came from the will, but not any of the stuff that came with it. It hurt me to see it go away but with me living in my small apartment I did not have a lot of space. So, I kept the bare necessities, like my mother's necklace, my father's watch, and both of my brothers' rings. That is one of the things that I did get back when my brothers passed. The man that gave it to me said that they were both wearing it when the car crashed.

Going up to my room, I decided that I needed a shower from all the running I did. I went to my closet and grabbed some tights, a big nightshirt, and some undergarments. As I was going in the bathroom I saw a picture on my bedside table. It was a picture of a three of us. John, with his green eyes and his red hair was behind me, while Zander, with his blue eyes and brown hair was standing next to me. I, with green eyes and red-brown frizzy hair stood there looking happy next to my brothers. I remember taking that picture like it was yesterday. We were at the park watching the children play, while we had a picnic. I shook my head, stepping out of my memories and going into the bathroom. I didn't even bother shutting the door and dropped my clothes on the counter and stepped into the shower after making sure that the water was warm. "Ahhhh, perfect."

After I was done with the shower I got out and got dressed making sure I put my red-brown frizzy hair in a bun. I then went to brush my teeth. As I went to put the toothbrush in my mouth I saw something, or shall I say someone, in the mirror behind me I never thought I would see again. Dropping my toothbrush in the sink I swivelled around to see my brother looking at me with a smirk on his face.

"J-J-John!"

"Hello Karla"

THE END
