Hindsight is 20/20...
It's easier to judge something in the past when you see the consequences unfold. The thing you should have said, the thing you should have done, the choice you should have made.
Cassidy Walker was an ace at making bad decisions.
She didn't know why she always did things like this. According to her therapist, they were cries for help, desperate pleas for attention.
Cassidy ran as Drew chased her across her lush green yard. She bolted through the door of her family home, cutting through the house to get to the stairs.
"Caught you," Drew panted as they finally fell on the bed.
This wasn't a hindsight bad decision, oh no, this was completely on purpose. Revenge, if you will.
When Cadence Walker, Cassidy's older sister, found out that Cassidy was getting a car for her 16th birthday she totally flipped. She proclaimed that Cassidy was spoiled rotten and always got her own way. At the height of the tantrum, she announced that she wished Cassidy had never been born.
What kind of sister said something like that?
One that clearly underestimated what Cassidy would do, what she was capable of doing.
Drew tangled his fingers into her already messy brown waves as she yanked open his button-down shirt. Cassidy pulled his shirt over his shoulders as he shook it the rest of the way off. Drew unzipped her black dress and tossed it to the floor.
"You can't tell anyone about this," Drew said. Cassidy just smiled at him and pulled him closer. Drew had just started to take his pants off when the door to Cassidy's room opened. Unlike Cassidy, Drew was surprised to see his fiancé, Cassidy's older sister in the doorway.
"Cadence," Drew sputtered "It's not what it looks like."
"Get out," she said simply to her two-timing fiancé. Drew left the room hanging his head like a disobedient puppy. Cassidy almost felt bad for him.
Cadence just stood there staring at Cassidy as Cassidy waited for the fireworks. No one threw a temper tantrum better than Cadence. The two sisters had had many fights over the years, but Cassidy knew this would be one to top all the others.
Cassidy waited wondering what her sister would do. Would she again tell her she wished she had never been born? Would she lunge at her starting a somewhat routine slap fight? Then there was always the ever popular tattling to mom and dad.
Cassidy expected every possible scenario, except the one that had actually happened.
"How could you?" Cadence uttered barely above a whisper before leaving Cassidy alone in her room.
It was in that moment, that Cassidy realized she had gone too far. There was nothing that would ever make Cadence forgive her, was there?
You would think that Cadence would have wondered what her 26 year old fiancé wanted with a 16 year old girl but then...
Hindsight.
