Chapter 6

Hiccup's P.O.V.

"She got hit in the head by the brick," Astrid says and I pause before breaking out in laughter. The brick from the first question! I forgot about it! She's been here for about ten min-*looks at clock*-nope, two hours.

"Wow, I've never stayed up this late," I say, my laughter dying. She glances at the clock.

"It's fun isn't it?" she says.

"Not with my friends; they always try to drag me somewhere," I grumble.

"Same here! I mean, yeah they're my group and I'd do anything for them, but come on! Some times a girl just wants a quiet night in, sometimes she wants a night on the streets! They need to learn that it's called alone time," she says in exasperation.

"I know, right?! It's like my friends will die if they don't go to a party or something," I say before she freezes.

"Speaking of...can I ask you something?" she asks.

"Sure," I say.

She hesitates. "This is kind of awkward, but...have you heard of me making out with anyone on Friday?" My blood ran cold.

"I'm glad you brought that up," I start slowly before gaining speed, "If it makes a difference, I made the first move, and I'm so sorry." She paused, staring at me with a blank stare. After a minute, she turns her head away with a sigh.

"So...can I ask how it was? I mean, I'm kind of a new-bee..." I froze.

"Y-You don't care?" I ask in shock.

"Of course I care. But it's in the past. When has anyone been able to change the past?" she asks, sounding defeated. "Um...Toothpick, I--um...I think I should get going," she stands up and walks for the door.

"A-are you sure?" I ask, walking after her, "It's really late, you can stay here for the nigh-" she cut me off.

"No. No, Toothpick, I'll be fine," she says, turning to face me as we reach the front door. She extended a shaky hand. "Uh--thanks for letting me warm up for a bit," she says as I look from her hand to her and back again, "Um...I-I'll see you tomorrow." She takes her hand back awkwardly before opening the door. I shoot after her but ram into the door as it closes behind her. I swing the door open and run outside for her but she was out of sight.

"I should've just kept my mouth shut!" I snap at myself.

Morning

Astrid's P.O.V.

I came around on my 5th lap around the house before my leg gave way beneath me, making the momentum cause me to go rolling half way across the yard, staining my clothes and body with grass and dirt. "Damn it!" I scream. Suddenly, a horn honks from the drive way and I grabbed my bag before running to Eret's truck. I jump in the bed and Ruffnut hits the roof before we drive off.

"How's your knee?" Heather asks, seeing the conditions of my clothes.

"Fine. It was my ankle today," I say as she pulls out her mini make-up kit and extra clothes.

I slip my arms into my shirt and take the shirt from her before switching them, moving them simultaneously so only a little bit of skin showed. I then take the jeans from her and change into them, out of sight of other cars, and Eret and the guys in the front.I get my shoes back on before Heather and Ruffnut clean the stains from my skin, Heather putting a little bit of concealer under my eyes to hide the dark circles.

"You get that stuff away from me," I order as she pulls out some blush. She looks at me nervously before applying it to her own cheeks. I hang my head back, over the edge of the bed, and relish the feeling of the wind blowing my hair.

"So, Astrid. What'd you do last night?" Eret asks as we get out of the truck and walk to the school.

"Nothing you need to know the details of," I say, not breaking stride.

"Really? You didn't track down the mystery guy and make out with him again?" he asks.

"Suggest something like that again, and I will never throw a party again," I hiss.

"She did!" Dagger gasps.

"Hey! Since when is it Pick On Astrid Day?" I shout, "I found out by accident! Ran into him last night and he cracked. Stop making such a big deal about it!" With that, I stormed inside as they stared after me in shock. I saw Hiccup and avoided his gaze as I went to the library.

After school

I walked out of the school and fixed the strap of my bag as I went down the street. Eret's truck pulled up to the curb and he drove slowly as I walked. "Astrid! Come on, we're all going to the cafe!" Dagger called.

"Okay," I say, not breaking stride.

"Ast, come on, don't be such a buzzkill," Ruffnut called and I paused, making them stop.

"I'm the buzzkill? I throw a freaking party every Friday. When was the last time you guys had a party at your places?" I ask before storming back down the street. They followed.

"What's going on with you?! You've been acting weird all day," Eret called.

"Oh. I-I get what's going on," Heather said, "Want us to give you a ride home?" I pause and look at her.

"Wow. A girl can't have a bad day without being on her week, huh? Never thought you'd be so sexist," I say before turning and running in a random direction. I didn't know where I was going but I wasn't going home. I didn't need to go to an empty house when I could get the same effects on the neighborhood streets.

Hiccup's P.O.V.

"Hey, is that Astrid?" Snotlout said, earning everyone's attention and making us follow his gaze to the street. Astrid had her hood up and her hands were stuffed in her pockets as she trudged down the sidewalk.

"Well that's weird. She's usually at the cafe by now," Tuffnut said.

"Think she and Eret are having it out?" Fishlegs asked.

"Are they dating?" Snotlout asked.

"Nah. Ruffnut would have told me," Tuff says.

"Ahem," I clear my throat quickly, "Who cares? Is a slut not allowed to walk every now and then?"

"Hey, uh...you made out with that slut," Fishlegs says.

"That's how I know she is one," I say, turning my back to the street as I sat on the picnic table with my elbows resting on my knees.

"She looks upset," Tuffnut says.

"Then she can talk to her parents," I say, remembering her asking me not to tell anyone about her father.

"But she's not going toward her house...she's going to your neighborhood," Snotlout says in shock before they all looked at me. I hadn't told them that she was at my house last night.

"Maybe she's visiting a relative," I suggest.

"She doesn't have any that live in Berk," Snotlout says. How do people know if she has family in Berk, but they don't know her father's dead?! I shrug.

"Hey, Astrid!" Fishlegs calls, waving her over.

"No, don't!" I hiss under my breath as she looks up in confusion. She glanced around before walking over.

"Hey, guys what's up?" she asks as she reaches us.

"Where's your group?" Snotlout asks.

"At the cafe," she answers.

"Why aren't you with them?" Tuffnut asks.

"Uh..." she looked around her before I sensed her glance at me as I did stuff on my phone. Feeling like this was about to get interesting, I turned it off and put it in my back pocket before looking at her expectantly. "Uh..I was just, um...on my way, to..." her head was whipping around in all directions, probably looking for an excuse.

"Well gee don't hurt yourself," I grumble.

"I was on my way to the mall. To do some window shopping," she finishes.

"Hiccup, let her finish, gosh," Fishlegs says.

"Looking for some company?" Snotlout asks.

"I wouldn't mind," she says with a shrug.

"Hiccup, can we?!" Tuffnut asks.

"You guys can, I'm about to head home," I say, checking the time on my phone and putting it back in my pocket.

"No! Come on! It'll be fun!" Tuff shouts, shaking my arm.

"Walking around Victoria's Secret and carrying bras and blouses sounds fun to you guys?" I ask in exasperation. They exchange grinning glances before nodding.

"I don't go to Victoria's Secret," Astrid butts in, arms crossed, "I focus more on the sporting good stores. And do you not know what window shopping is? I don't plan on buying anything to carry."

"Come on, Hiccup!" Snotlout whines.

"If I say yes will you guys quit bugging me?" I ask irritably and they nod. "Fine," I groan before the guys cheer and pull me off the picnic table.
