role
The Detective
full name
Ridley Harlow Ransom
nicknames
While most people call her Ridley, her close friends and family have taken to calling her Riddles over the years, as it fits with her name and with the fact that she loves figuring out answers. She's given up on trying to stop them and has even taken a liking to the nickname, depending on who is using it.

personality
Ridley is, without a doubt, clever. Any variation of the word intelligent can be applied to her: she's rational, with a mind that never stops turning and thinking of answers. It can be a bit hard to keep up with, but for someone who always strives for the truth, it's perfect. Her determination and curiosity have the potential to make a deadly combination. She will stop at nothing to find what she wants, even if she has to get her hands dirty to do it. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but she lives by the second half of that phrase: satisfaction brought it back. This can make her intimidating to some, but Ridley is truly a kind and genuine person, with a very strong moral compass. She'll be there for whoever needs her, no matter how well she knows the person, and will offer a helping hand with whatever they need. She always considers all sides and information available, trusting that this will help her make the most accurate conclusions. She's good at understanding how people's emotions and minds work and though she almost always focuses on analyzing the rational and logical side of things, she knows when to listen to her heart and gut. She can be a bit hard to keep up with but if you do, you won't regret it. She is one of the best people to have on your side. She's nice, but if you cross her or if she suspects you, be warned. The second you challenge her to a game, she'll figure out a way to win. And if you try to play her like a pawn, she'll end up becoming the queen.
likes and dislikes
likes: Ridley loves her friends (obviously), whodunit movies, and green apples. She's got a soft spot for cheesy romance books (though she would never let anyone catch her reading them) and chocolate ice cream. She could not survive without coffee, and her favorite scents are laundry fresh out of the dryer and peppermint. She's a sucker for long drives and flowers, as well as old books.
dislikes: Ridley really dislikes wearing her glasses in public (thank god for contacts) and having to wear tights. Bugs absolutely terrify her, as well as needles and small, cramped spaces. She is definitely a night owl and doesn't like going to bed early if it means she can't continue to work on something. Finally, she hates giving up and people who lie to her (after all, who likes a liar?).
background
It is safe to say that Ridley's parents came from something that resembled nothing. Her mother, Riley O'Hara, married her father, Mateo Ransom, when the two were fresh out of college. Her father worked at a small diner, writing mystery novels in his free time, while her mother worked at a florist shop nearby while she dreamed up ideas of owning her own wedding planning company. Within a year after their wedding, Riley became pregnant with Ridley. By the time Ridley was two, her dad's writing career had taken off and he was quickly building himself a publishing empire. Not long after, her mother got her business off the ground. It was on mystery novels, both her father's and books from other authors, that Ridley was raised, surrounded by her mom's wedding samples as she sat reading at the kitchen table. Maybe that was part of why she wanted to become a detective. She still doesn't really know. Her parents were always incredibly busy, but Ridley didn't mind all that much. She knew they still loved her and they were always there when she really needed them. She's always been independent so it wasn't hard for her to learn to do things on her own. Plus she had her cat, Roger, by her side so she wasn't completely alone. Her family story isn't tragic - though she does wish her parents had been around a little bit longer when she was younger - and to this day she's still pretty close to her parents, even though she goes to school away from home.
trivia
- Though she has a lot of different pieces of jewelry, Ridley usually sticks to a few that really mean something to her. She has a necklace that she always wears (she claims it's lucky), as well as a ring that she wears so often she has a tan line on her finger from it.
- Ridley is a movie fanatic. She likes pretty much all genres for a variety of reasons - she likes trying to guess the endings of whodunit films, laughing at the cheesy aspect of romcoms (she claims she hates them, but they're definitely a guilty pleasure of hers), watching old Disney movies when she's feeling nostalgic, and so on.
- Though she loves a good mystery novel, Ridley definitely has a soft spot for Harry Potter. She read the series with her mom when she was younger and has loved them ever since. Worn copies can be seen on her bookshelves among all of her other books, in their prized position on the top shelf. She's definitely a Ravenclaw.
- She writes almost exclusively in black ink and has a pen on her at all times. She almost always has a notebook, too, filled with random notes written in black scrawl, as writing things down always helps her think through things when she can't say them out loud.
- She took karate for seven years. She's got a mean roundhouse kick. Don't make her use it.

nicknames
Pretty much everyone - except for his mother - calls him Gabe. He doesn't really like going by his full first name that much, and definitely not his completely full name. His middle name is pretty embarrassing, though he does like the fact that he shares it with his dad.

personality
Gabe is a person who has multiple layers. On the surface, he seems incredibly serious. He focuses on his studies and the things that matter to him, and can even seem a bit stuck up. After all, if you knew you were one of the smartest people in the room, wouldn't you have a bit of pride, too? He knows his worth and his intelligence, making him seem a bit boastful when in his mind, he's understandably ambitious. He is also competitive and quite stubborn. Despite all of this, he softens up when you get close to him. When he's not stressed, his serious demeanor starts to crack, revealing a friendly guy who can always come in with a sarcastic one-liner. He may not always be the best with emotions when talking to someone he doesn't know that well, but if you matter to him he will make sure that you know it. His fatal flaw is pride, but loyalty isn't too far behind. Once you're friends with him, you're friends for life, unless you do something really bad. Though he's stubborn, he'll consider all view points - after all, that's the best way to form well-crafted conclusions. Underneath all of this, Gabe is someone who is unsure and even a little lonely. He may be smart, but he's also the youngest, which makes him feel a bit like an outsider. He likes crafting relationships with people, even if he can be a little awkward in the beginning. Each part of him has something new, which you won't discover until you really get to know him.
likes and dislikes
likes: Gabe really likes Shakespeare, comic books, and chess (he knows that makes him sound nerdy, but he wears that fact with pride). His favorite food is probably pizza and he has a major sweet tooth. He loves his family and friends, as well as Converse sneakers, sleeping late, and running (it's pretty much the only athletic thing he's super good at, besides swimming). Surprisingly, he is also interested in astronomy.
dislikes: Gabe hates admitting that he doesn't know something and giving up (he's not a sore loser, but if it's an unfair challenge he will make it known how he feels). He despises spinach and fish, as well as horses (don't ask) and hospitals. He isn't fond of crime dramas and would rather wear no socks than wear ones that don't match. Finally, he hates clowns and horror movies.
background
For his entire life, Gabriel has been known as the boy genius. Gabe is the second son of Police Commissioner Edward Lucian Delorean and big-time CEO Marianna Thatcher-Delorean. Their first son, Antonio, was born three years before Gabe, and they had no more children after their second son. Gabe and Antonio were incredibly close growing up, with Gabe always looking up to his older brother and asking him for advice. Their bond grew even stronger when Edward died when Gabe was seven. While their mother worked, Gabe and Antonio would spend time with their grandmother, who lived a few minutes away. It was easy to tell early on in his life that Gabe was smart. While his brother focused more on the athletic side of things, Gabe excelled in everything academic, moving ahead in reading levels and learning his timetables incredibly quickly. Don't get me wrong, Antonio is smart too, but Gabe focused mostly on his studies and less on extracurriculars. He skipped fourth grade, making him even younger for his grade level. By the time he reached high school, he was put into Mistwood Prep, as it had one of the best academic programs in the country - and their mother could certainly afford it. Even among the brightest at Mistwood, he managed to be put into the accelerated program. It's kind of lonely, being the youngest, but he's happy to be getting a good education.
trivia
- Gabe doesn't know how to ride a bike. His older brother tried to teach him when he was a kid using his old bike, but Gabe just kept falling and eventually one of the pedals fell off because of how old the bike was. He thought he got the hang of it by the time he was ten, but ended up crashing into a dumpster and has a scar on his elbow to prove it.
- Gabe's got a secret passion for music. He is an excellent drummer and can play a bit of piano. He's got a drum set stashed in his room, but no one really knows about the piano part and he wouldn't be caught dead singing.
- He knows how to juggle. He went to circus camp for a week when he was eleven and still remembers. It's a pretty good party trick, if he does say so himself. He also knows some pretty cool card tricks so if you need someone to perform some slight of hand, give him a call.
- Gabe went through a lot of hobby phases when he was younger, including learning how to pick locks. He kinda wanted to be a spy when he was a kid so he figured it would be a cool trick to learn. His mother came home from work several times to see him trying to unlock the front door without a key, dressed in his all black spy costume.
- Without a doubt his favorite class is English. Debating about Shakespeare is really fun.
