Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Miranda Bonham
I waited for Nixon to reply, but he wasn’t saying anything- just staring at me intently.
“Answer me. Are you the one after my father?” I asked again.
“Trust me when I say this, you don’t want me to answer that,” Nixon replied.
“We’re going back to the mansion. It was a mistake to let you go,” Nixon said, grabbing my arm. I was still thinking about his words, so it was easier to drag me along.
Just as we reached the door, I stopped walking.
“I’m not leaving,” I said, standing my ground. Nixon looked at me, raising an eyebrow while tugging on my hand.
“I’m not leaving you here, alone,” he stated.
“If it’s any consolation to you- even though we are strangers and you shouldn’t be worried- my brother is keeping an eye on me,” I told him.
My comment seemed to have bothered him more, because he was frowning- looking annoyed.
“I don’t need him watching over you. I can take care of you myself.”
I rolled my eyes at his random words.
“He’s my brother. I think if anyone has the right to say what you just did, it’s him,” I said, removing my hand from his grip and walking back to the living room.
“Look, you know where I live. If for some reason you need to see me, I’m here,” I said, motioning around the room, with my hands.
He looked thoughtful for a moment. I wondered if he was trying to settle in with my words.
“I’m staying here with you.” At first, I thought he was joking. When I saw his serious expression, I shook my head.
“No way, my family checks on me. If they see you here, they’ll murder you, and probably me too,” I said.
“If your family tries to put a hand on you, I’ll kill them,” he threatened seriously- putting his hands on my waist.
I looked at him, raising an eyebrow.
“Umm…. I was joking,” I said, trying to wriggle out of his arms.
He had his grip tightly on me, his fingers for sure leaving marks on my waist.
Nixon wasn’t loosening his hold. Instead, he nestled his head in my neck, and I heard as he in took a few breaths.
Some moments passed, until he finally looked up at me.
“Forgive me,” he apologized.
I looked at him curiously, a teasing smile on my face.
“Forgiven. Now can you please go,” I practically begged.
“I can’t let you out of my sight. Can’t you see that?” He caressed the side of my cheek. I could feel his breath in my face, tickling me softly. Since he was taller than me, he had to lean a bit in order to reach me.
“My brother is going to be coming to check on me. If he finds you here, he’ll throw a fit,” I said, now wishing my brother wouldn’t check on me all the time.
Should I be stopping Nixon? I didn’t know, and having his so near me was blurring my thoughts. My Wolf was almost purring, wanting Nixon as close as we could have him.
“I can leave while he’s here,” Nixon said, his arms wrapping more around me, reaching all the way to my back.
His lips were so close, grazing mine as he spoke.
“I’m not going to hurt you, I just want you near me,” he said, and this time he softly brushed his lips on mine.
I felt entranced by his words, by his touch. It was almost like he was seducing me, and I didn’t mind one bit.
I couldn’t wait any longer, as I raised myself in order to catch his lips.
My sudden movement surprised him, but he returned the kiss nonetheless.
I tried taking control of the kiss, moving my lips roughly around his. I felt his grin on my lips, and I knew he wasn’t expecting my sudden eagerness.
Honestly, I didn’t know why I was doing it. I just knew it felt good, and my Wolf was encouraging me.
A knock on my door was what finally brought me out to reality. I pulled away from Nixon, looking at the door with a frown on my face.
The only person who I thought would be there was Preston. If it was him, I was going to be more than pissed off. Not only did he ruin the moment I just had with Nixon- which was probably a good thing- but he had just left a while ago.
“Go hide in my room,” I told Nixon, shoving him away.
He didn’t look amused- in fact, he looked mad.
“Why? Who is that?” He asked, standing still. He was obviously stronger than me, and as much as I tried, I couldn’t get him to take a step.
“I have no idea. But if that’s my brother again, he isn’t going to be happy to find you here,” I said.
“If I hide in your room, he’ll still know I’m here. If he’s as great a Wolf as you claim, he’ll be able to feel me in there,” Nixon said, making a good point.
“Okay, then sit in the couch, act casual, and please do not pick a fight,” I said, trying to make my words go through his thick skull.
“Or?” He asked.
“Or I will tell him you held me against my will, and you tried to take advantage of me. Now shut up and look pretty,” I told him.
I probably should be telling Preston what Nixon did. But, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything. Nixon hadn’t hurt me, and I didn’t know why, but I felt attracted to him.
Nixon simply raised his eyebrows, and took a seat in the couch.
“I’m not afraid of your brother,” he said.
I narrowed my eyes at him, but the door knocking with more force distracted me from giving him a piece of my mind
I opened the door to find a guy from the pack at the door.
“Clay?” I asked, looking at him confused.
“There’s a guy here,” he said, trying to look inside my apartment.
“Yes, there’s a guy here. Why?” I asked, not knowing what his deal was.
“Preston told me to call him if anything happened. I came to tell you because I’m not sure he’s going to like you having a guy here,” Clay said.
“He’s been here all day and you just noticed?” I asked him, crossing my arms.
Clay’s face started to redden, his cheeks turning pink.
“I was waiting for him to leave. I didn’t want to call your brother, but he hasn’t left,” Clay replied.
Now it was my turn to frown. I guess Clay had done me a favor. If Preston did find Nixon in my apartment, I wouldn’t want to imagine what he would’ve done.
“I’m going to visit my father. We’re both leaving right now,” I told Clay.
He nodded at me, and was about to turn to leave but I grabbed his arm to try and stop him.
“Please don’t tell Preston about him,” I said, knowing that my words would probably not mean anything. Clay wasn’t only a member of the pack, but he was good friends with my brother.
“I won’t. I know how crazy Preston can get. I just hope you know what you’re doing Andy. That guy doesn’t belong to the pack, and he looks dangerous,” was all Clay said before walking away.
I stood at the door, his words shocking me. I knew it was true. Nixon had yet to answer my question. I needed to know if he was the one who wanted to hurt my dad.
“I’m going to go see my dad,” I told Nixon, rummaging through my closet for a change of clothes.
“Why?” He asked, trying to stop me.
“Because my dad will make me go home if I don’t convince him otherwise. When I got here, Preston told me that my mom and dad were talking about making me go back home,” I told him.
“Why is that?”
“I have no idea. Apparently, there is a guy,” I told him, raising an eyebrow suggestively.
“A guy…” Nixon pressed.
“That wants to take out my dad, and one of his friends,” I finished saying.
“Know who that might be?” I asked, crossing my arms.
“It’s me,” Nixon admitted, boldly.
“And you say it to me, expecting what exactly?”
“I’m not expecting anything from you. I’m warning you that I don’t plan to kill your father, but I am taking him with me.” Nixon’s words were like a blow to my stomach.
The fact that he was admitting to it so shamelessly wasn’t exactly helping.
“I’m going to see him, and I’m going to tell him your plans,” I said.
I stopped looking for a change of clothes. I was going exactly how I was dressed. I only grabbed my purse before heading to the door.
“If you tell him, he will do anything and everything to protect himself- including taking you back to his home,” Nixon’s said, just as I was about to turn the knob.
I turned to face him, narrowing my eyes.
“You think that would stop me? He’s my father Nixon. I might not always agree with him, but I’m not going to stand here, while you make plans to kill him,” I stated.
“It’s not my plan to kill him, yet. All I want is for him to come with me and confess his crimes. If he’s found innocent, then I’ll let him go.” His voice sounded cautious, like he was trying to watch his words.
“Take him where? What did he do?” I was raising my voice, but the anger was really getting to me.
I didn’t want to admit it, but his words were scaring me. Suddenly, I felt like I didn’t know what was happening. I felt like a little girl in big world, and I wasn’t used to that.
“He turned his back on the crown. He went against the kingdom and created his own pack. It’s something that he didn’t have permission to do,” Nixon said, and his words made me take a step back.
“What are you talking about?” I asked him, my voice nothing more than a mere whisper.
“The fact that you don’t know who I am is a perfect example. Your dad has been keeping a lot from you.”
“You’re lying. I’m not going to believe you,” I told him, turning to face the door. I planned to leave. I wanted to take a step and just get out of there because I was scared of his words.
“You’re my mate,” Nixon said.
I stayed still, not daring to move away from where I was, but not getting closer to him.
“What does that mean?” I asked him, my voice barely audible.
“If your father hadn’t lied to you, you would know what that meant. I wouldn’t have to explain why your Wolf doesn’t recognize mine, or why you seem so oblivious of the way I feel about you,” Nixon said.
I was going to walk away, but the moment his hand grazed my arm, I couldn’t move. My Wolf recognized him. I just didn’t understand what she was saying. I only knew that every time Nixon was around me, I wanted to have him closer. Every time he touched me, I wanted him to do it more.
“Are you lying to me?” I asked- my voice cracking as I spoke.
Nixon had openly admitted he wanted to either capture or kill my father, yet I couldn’t bring myself to leave his side.
“I’m not lying to you,” he said, his voice sounding sincere.
“Explain- everything,” I said, finally turning to face him.
His eyes were rimmed red, and a darker shade than beautiful green color that usually tints them. He looked vulnerable and I felt guilty, because I had caused that.
But, what could I do when the man I thought I might be in love with told me he wanted to hurt my father?
