Chapter 1
Prince Nixon Edington
I was lying down on my bed, staring at the ceiling. Many things were running through my head and I only wished to have my mind cleared off.
Today had been a rough day. The guard had been doing surveillance for 24 hours, hoping to catch the Rogues that had trespassed into The Island.
My father, current King of The Island of Wolves, was what I considered- on the passing. Not only did his ideas seem dull, but they were bringing nothing new to the packs.
My mind was on the King and Alpha title that was knocking at my door. In nine months, I would turn 21 and inherit the Throne.
The pressure in itself set in, but the honor of finally stepping in for my father was what aided my patience with the kingdom at the moment.
A knock on my door distracted me from my line of thought.
“Go away,” I said, not needing to raise my voice any higher. The person at the other side of the door would be able to hear me.
“Prince Nixon, may I come in,” a woman’s voice said. I stared at the door, deciding if taking care of my necessities was worth hearing unwanted gossip.
“I know you must be tired. If you let me come in, I can make you feel better,” she said.
I chuckled, not really agreeing with her.
“Come in,” I told Ashlyn either way.
In plain words, she was what most would consider, easy. I had no interest in her, other than taking care of my needs. Some shifters in the kingdom thought one day I would actually take her as my Queen. I laughed in my mind that such a thought would run through them, but nonetheless- I didn’t break the rumor.
“Are you tired, my prince?” She asked, in a seductive voice. She was wearing a short dress- see through from what I noticed. I stared at her, feeling myself getting aroused from her image. Ashlyn was decent looking. My wolf was satisfied after being with her, but that was all it ever was.
“Undress,” I ordered, not wanting to waste time with pleasantries. I wanted one thing from her, and one thing only.
Ashlyn started undressing, walking into bed where I laid. She was swaying her hips as she walked. I wanted to laugh, finding her behavior ridiculous.
Once she got near the bed, I grabbed her by the waist and laid her down. She yelped from my sudden rough movement, but didn’t say anything else after that. I got on top of her, moving her hands over her head when she tried to wrap them around me.
In that moment, I let more of my wolf take over as I thrust into Ashlyn and let all the stress of the day out.
As soon as I finished, I kicked Ashlyn out of my room, not wanting her near me. She acted offended, like she did every time I made her leave. I simply stayed quiet, staring at her.
When she received no reaction from me, she stomped out of my room and finally gave me some peace. I turned over on the bed, and decided my body was in need of rest.
Tomorrow I would leave The Island. My orders were to track the stray Rogues that were suspected of attacking us.
Rumor was that the Rogues were planning an attack that would destroy The Island. We had fourteen packs and I was sure there was no way they could take out all the Wolves we had. But, we still needed to handle things with caution.
My father had assigned me a group of ten Wolves to go into the US and take care of the rumors and bring back the Rogues. I was only to bring the leaders and a few of their followers, since it was them causing the entire revolt.
In general, Rogues were rare. Hardly any Wolf left the Island. Werewolves preferred to live in the Island where they didn’t have to hide what they were from the humans. The ones that did leave, we had to keep track of. They all reported to our kingdom. Once they stopped reporting what they were doing, was when we stepped in.
The problem with Rogues was- they didn’t follow rules. They chose their own mate, and many times mated with she-wolves who already had a mate and a claim.
The ones rebelling against the kingdom had to be stopped. At the moment, there were two in particular, who I had yet to meet- but they were the center of my hatred.
I was to bring Craven Bonham and Zander Thomas back to the kingdom for execution by this time next week.
Miranda
“A beautiful rose, for the beautiful lady,” said the voice coming from the person standing in front of my table. I looked up to see a guy, maybe a few years older than me. He was attractive- light brown hair, a nice set of beautiful green eyes, lean muscular figure, and a dazzling smile that made me want to smile back.
Instead, I acted how I usually did when a guy approached me.
“I’m not interested,” I replied, turning back to my book.
“At least you should take the rose,” he said, pulling out a chair and taking a seat in front of me.
I raised an eye brow at him, wondering why he took a seat after I had turned him down. He gave me a grin, looking unaffected by my behavior.
Of course it had taken me a while to realize it. He was a Werewolf.
“Hmm… Thelon Mercury. Now that’s a book I am definitely not interested in,” he said, getting comfortable.
“Maybe if you understood the book, you would appreciate it,” I replied, returning to the book. Even as I tried to read it, the guy in front of me was a distraction.
“Oh, I understood it alright. I guess I’m not a huge fan of war, or death, or vanity, or promiscuity, or the times of my great grandmother,” he replied, the grin returning to his face.
I looked at him curiously, wondering if he was playing me. The book was about all that, which was what had me interested in it. It was full of conflicts. At the same time that it made me want to rip my hair out- I also couldn’t stop reading it.
“Did you really read it, or are you just messing with me?” I asked him, still not fully trusting his summary of the book.
“Unfortunately, I did read it. But I wish I hadn’t. It was the first book in my reading list my second year in college,” he replied. Now I knew he was older than me. I had just graduated high school and this summer, I wanted to spend preparing for university next semester.
I had already bought the books I would need, and my classes were all ready. I even went the full mile and contacted some of the professors I would be having.
“Do you go here?” He asked me. We were in Stanton University.
“I’m starting this fall,” I replied, wondering if he was a student as well.
“That’s cool. This is my junior year. Just one more year and I finish,” he told me, looking proud of himself.
“What are you studying?” I asked him, curiously. He looked like a free spirit, so I pegged him as a liberal arts major.
“Right now, I’m studying Bio-Chemistry. I’m taking a break when I graduate and then coming back to finish up my masters,” he replied. I was definitely not expecting that. He chuckled, probably at the shocked expression I made.
“You look surprised. I’m not sure if I should be offended,” he said, chuckling once again.
“I’m a little surprised, but kudos to you for surviving three years, almost four in that major,” I said, giving him a smile.
“What are you going in for?” He asked me, as a girl came to take his order.
“Just a coffee and a chocolate chip muffin,” he told the waitress.
“So, what are you studying?” He asked me once again, after a silence had settled in.
“I’m going for Bio-Chemistry as well,” I replied.
“Well, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of each other,” he said, grabbing the muffin and coffee as the waitress handed it to him.
“Yeah,” I said, nodding my head.
“So, are you going to tell me your name or should I guess,” he asked me, with the same teasing look he had before.
“I’m Miranda. Miranda Bonham,” I said, even though I was unsure of telling him my name. He looked surprised for a while. If he was a werewolf, he must have known who my father was. My father was in charge of this region. All Werewolves in the area had to report to him and I was sure this guy was no different.
“I’m Zander. Zander Thomas,” he presented himself, outstretching his hand for me to take.
