Chapter Nine

It took a while, but Sean had finally found Mark's room. If Mark was hiding something then he had to of kept it somewhere in his room, Sean searched around Mark's room looking for anything that could potentially catch him off guard. Mark's room was a mess there was paper all over the place and you could barely see the floor. Clothing lay disheveled in every corner of the room and the bed was unmade. It took him thirty minutes to find evidence and he was about to give up when his eyes landed on a manila envelope. The manila envelope laid on Mark's desk ready to fall into the rubbish bin. Sean walked over and grabbed the envelope before it fell.

"I wonder what Mark is hiding." Sean said but before he could even look at it, Sean had to get back to his chambers before Mark came back.

Getting in was the easy part, getting out was going to be harder. Sean walked over to the door and opened it; he looked down the hallway to make sure that Mark or his family were nowhere in sight. As Sean was walking back to his room, a strong smell wafted through the air making his stomach grumble. I'll drop something off first then check out what's cooking in the kitchen.

Sean arrived at his bedroom and walked in, quickly hiding the envelope in his suitcase. Then he turned to leave. Sean walked down the hall until he arrived at the kitchen and walked in. He saw the servants preparing Christmas cookies and deserts.

"Hey guys," Sean said, entering the kitchen. Adam had been struggling to help the servants in the kitchen, beads of sweat came down from his forehead. "Everything okay in here? What are we making?"

"We're trying to create some Christmas cookies for the charity ball, but we can't find the best ingredient to add." Adam stated.

"Isn't it a little early to be making cookies?" questioned Sean. "And do you need some assistance?"

"What do you know about baking cookies?" asked a woman servant.

"My father owns a restaurant, I've picked up on a few things." Sean responded.

"Well, if you think you can handle it then that would be great!" The woman exclaimed "You can call me Amy." Sean smiled and grabbed an apron immediately working on the cookies. Meanwhile, Maeline spent time in her room busy going over papers that could help out with the charity. She had been focusing so much that a knock on the door startled her.

"Enter!" Maeline called out. The door opened as Mark and Tom stepped inside. She looked up and saw that Tom was mad and looked like he was ready to gouge her eyes out, it didn't take her long to realize what was happening. "Can I help you?"

"Your highness," Tom bowed. "I apologize for intruding, but if I may inquire to ask a question?"

"Okay?" Maeline responded. Her eyebrows raised.

"Mark tells me that you two haven't been connecting," he responds. Maeline looked between the two brothers, annoyed. It wasn't that they weren't connecting it was more like Mark was obsessed with her.

"Did he now?" she said, narrowing her eyes.

"He also told me that you were falling for a commoner is this true?" asked Tom.

At this point she was annoyed with the Fischbach brothers. They thought that because of how powerful they were they could control her. No way were they going to let this go. It was already making her mad.

Sean finished baking a bunch of Christmas cookies and decided to bring Maeline some. Maybe it would make things easier for both of them. So, he put a couple cookies on the plate and made his way toward Maeline's room. He stopped when he saw that the large iron door was open a bit. Confused, Sean walked over to the door and stood outside listening. He could hear three voices. Two of which he recognized as Mark and Maeline. But the third guy he didn't recognize at all.

"Answer the question Maeline," demanded Mark. "How do you feel about that commoner?"

"Fine if you guys want to know the truth, I don't love him," Maeline said. "I invited him here to spend the holidays with us not to fall in love."

Sean's heart broke after hearing Maeline's words come out of her mouth. He thought that she loved him and now that he was hearing the truth, he realized that he was just there for a hood ornament. She never cared about him at all, only invited him because she wanted someone to spend the holidays with them. It was stupid of him to think that someone could love him. It was all a rouse tears threatened to fall, he stepped back and dropped the plate of cookies. Sean turned on his heel and ran back to the kitchen. The servants were startled as Sean came barging in, at that point tears were already falling and he couldn't stop them. Adam had approached him concerned.

"What happened?" Adam said. "Is everything alright sir?"

"No everything is not alright," Sean stated. "Everything about this was worthless. I'm not even planning to go to the ball, especially not after what Maeline said," he continued. "So, if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my room."

Sean stormed off. Leaving the servants shocked.
