Chapter Eight
Maeline did not like the fact that Mark had been doing everything in his power to make her life miserable and even Sean's. All her and Sean were doing was dancing. Sean picked up on the dance quick, but she hadn't been expecting Mark to enter the dance room. Maeline was walking down the hall when she passed by Mark who was currently walking in the opposite direction of his office. He'd been heading toward Sean's room. Without wasting another minute, Maeline followed Mark close behind. Rounding the corner, Maeline hid from Mark as the duke left Sean's room. Something had been wrong as Mark left Sean's room infuriated.
"What were you doing Mark?" Maeline questioned. She hid around the corner waiting till Mark passed by, then proceeded to walk over to Sean's room and knock on it.
"It's open," Sean said, Maeline pushed the door open ran toward Sean who was standing outside on the balcony staring off at the kingdom. However, Sean was only dressed in a pair of blue jeans and a white t-shirt and he was standing out in the cold.
"Sean?" She asked. "Are you okay? And why are you standing out there in the cold?" Maeline ran over to him and grabbed his arm, dragging him in.
"I'm fine," he said shivering, he crossed his hands and try to warm himself up.
"Sean, you're standing out here in the cold," says Maeline as she walked toward his closet and brought out a warm jacket. Walking back to Sean, Maeline placed the jacket around him. "This should keep you warm," Sean smiled briefly and pulled the jacket around his arms. While Sean was starting to warm up, Maeline noticed a mark that went diagonally across his face like someone had slapped him. "Now can you tell me what happened?"
"Nothing," says Sean. He didn't want the princess to jump on Mark or anger him anymore. "I shouldn't have tried to kiss you it was a mistake,"
"No Sean," responds Maeline. "It's not, we were both willing to kiss each other, that's not your fault."
"But it doesn't feel right." he said.
Maeline sighed listening to everything that Sean was saying, even though she didn't believe anything he had to say. Especially because she saw Mark leave. Knowing Mark, he probably threatened Sean. Even then, Maeline knew that it did not feel right for them to kiss or even dance considering they were on different social pyramids. However, she did not care where he stood if true love was right in front of them then that was what it had to be.
"Sean," says Maeline. "I know we run in different circles but know this, you are one of the sweetest guys I've met and don't forget you helped to restore the light in this castle."
Sean blushed, although he still missed his family, and Ireland for that matter. Sean's dream had just started. He'd been wanting to travel around and meet new people, but since he'd been here, gave him so satisfaction. He finally got to meet Princess Maeline.
"Your right," says Sean "I'm not used to this much attention and since you've helped me out, I guess there's no reason for me to complain right?"
"That's right." Said Maeline as she laughed, her laughter was adorable at least to Sean it was. He could see why Mark loved Maeline, he needed to figure out the reason why Mark hated him and figure out why the duke wanted him out. If Sean didn't know any better, he swore that Mark sent the sniper after him. "I'll leave you alone." Maeline smiled at Sean and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.
Sean couldn't stop thinking about Mark and what he had done. Not willing to stay in his room, Sean left and started to look around the castle anything that could point him to Mark's plan.
"What could you be hiding Mark?" questioned Sean. Suddenly an idea occurred to him, what if he could sneak into Mark's room? Maybe Mark had something hidden away in there. All he needed to do was plan his next move.
Maeline had been busy planning the charity ball and sending Ethan out there to give the invitations. A few days went by when Mark's family arrived at Lancaster castle, Sean was nearly done planning when he noticed them exiting a limo there was only a mother and son. The mother was Korean, and the brother looked to be slightly taller than Mark with a brown mustache and possible beard coming in. The brother's hair was pulled back into a small manbun and he was dressed in a suit while the mother was dressed in a nice evening gown.
Sean waited until Mark was completely out of sight and leaving with his family, once he saw that Mark left the grounds, he took his chance and started making his way to Mark's room. But that didn't mean it was going to be easy. It was hard enough to dodge servants, but it was even harder trying to avoid Mark, which was why he waited for the right opportunity.
Mark wasn't happy that his family had arrived earlier than scheduled. They'd been doing nothing but questioning why him and Maeline were not together yet.
"How are you? And how's the engagement going?" questioned his brother Tom. "At this point you should have been kissing or making out."
"Tom," Mark said touching the bridge of his nose. "I've been trying but it seems that she hasn't fallen for me."
"Mark," his mother said. "You know how important this is. Our families have to merge otherwise the royal bloodline will not continue."
"Yes, Mom, I know but here's the problem," Mark groaned. "She seems to be falling for someone else."
"What? Who?" questioned Tom annoyed and angry at the fact that the princess wasn't falling in love with his brother. And whoever was in the way, that the princess is falling for then he was ready to get rid of them once and for all.
"She's been falling for a commoner, he's staying here for Christmas," said Mark. "I've been trying everything to get him out of the picture, but nothing seems to work."
"Where's the princess?" questioned Tom. "I'll try to talk to her since you failed at doing it."
"She's in her room," said Mark. "Getting the rest of the invitations ready."
Tom nodded and made his way to the princess's room. Mark brought his mother to her and his brother's room where she got to start unpacking. Once he knew his mother was okay, he turned and went to go meet up with Tom who was going to speak to the princess.
