chapter six

Wanda's POV

Everything was dark as I opened my eyes, looking around myself to try and get my bearings in the foreign space. I tried to move my arms but found my body was bound to some sort of chair.

"Wanda, I am glad we finally get to meet." A soothing voice echoed, sounding as if it was coming from all directions.

"Who is there? Show yourself!"

"In due time, my child." The voice echoed again, sounding closer than before. I felt a small, soft hand pat my hair before running down the side of my face, disappearing as quickly as it appeared. "I am not here to harm, but to warn. Those you think close to you are out to hurt you. Kill you, even. And I cannot have that."

"Who are you? What are you talking about?" I called out desperately, turning my head to try and glimpse something.

The voice spoke but did not answer my questions. "Keep your family close, your friends closer, and your enemies closest, my dear Wanda. I will be in touch."

The darkness started to lighten but I still had no real answers so I desperately tried to cling on to the chair, screaming into the darkness. "Wait! Come back!" The chair faded out from under me and became a soft, pillowy bed, the light becoming stronger until it out shone the darkness.

"She's back with us!" I heard Dick cry with what sounded like relief in his voice before I felt his hand on top of mine. "Wanda, can you hear me?"

"Dickie...? What...ugh, what happened?" I groaned, covering my eyes with my free hand as I was blinded by the lights.

I heard footsteps before Zatanna's voice echoed in the room. "I tried to remove the tattoo on your neck and you passed out. That was three weeks ago, Wanda."

"What?!" I sat up with a start, hissing when my stiff muscles rejected the harsh movement. "Are you serious?"

"Very. We tried to wake you but you have been out cold." Dick explained, pulling me into a brief hug. "We have been running some scans and tests on your tattoo and it seems to-"

"It was created from the mind stone, most likely from when it was still in Loki's scepter." Natasha made her grand entrance by interrupting my cousin, walking into the room and over to my bed, taking a seat next to Dick to feel my head. "How do you feel, little one? You good?"

"It was strange...it felt like a dream from one night's sleep, not three weeks." I was about to go on to explain what I experienced when I was knocked out but the tattoo on my neck started to tingle and I lost my train of thought.

"Yes? You were saying something about a chair?" Dick looked as confused as I felt.

"A chair...? I was?" I trailed off, trying to remember why a chair was important.

Those you think close to you are out to hurt you.

I blinked, narrowing my eyes at Dick slightly pulling my hand back. "Yeah, I was going to say a change of scenery would be nice. Can I sit in a chair please?"

Nat got up and pulled a chair over, going to help me out of bed but I waved her off. She shot me a look. "Wanda, you were in a coma for three weeks, your muscles are going to be stiff. Let me help you."

I growled, levitating myself over into the chair with a proud smirk. "My power 'muscles' don't seem to be stiff, mom." Nat rolled her eyes playfully and walked out of the room, leaving me with Zatanna and Dick. I looked between the two, raising a brow. "If it is okay, I would like to be alone right now."

Dick looked hurt for a second but quickly masked it. "Right, of course. C'mon Z, lets go."

The two of them left, shutting the door behind them. I could still sense them right outside the room and I suddenly had the overwhelming urge to read their minds. I started with Zatanna's, figuring I would feel less guilty since I barely knew her.

"Wanda didn't look the same...she seemed off. I can't quite put my finger on it. And the sensors we have on her tattoo were going off the charts recently, I wonder what that means? Oh, I hope she is okay."

I felt a twinge of guilt as I turned my attention to Dick's mind, but I pushed it to the back of my own mind and focused.

"Something is definitely eating at her, she was not herself. Her eyes had a faint tinge of scarlet to them and she seemed as if she was in a daze. I better let the League know so they can run some more tests on her, see if she is sick."

Suddenly, I let out a low guttural growl as I flung my hand at the wall, focusing on my cousin's mind. I picked through his thoughts until I came to every thought about me, manipulating them from concern and worry to nonchalance, erasing his need to tell the Justice League anything.

When I realized what I had just done, I let out a gasp and covered my mouth, tears pooling in my eyes. I had promised that I would not mess with any of my teammate's minds and here I was erasing Dick, my cousin's,  memory and controlling his thoughts.

Maybe I am a monster.

Mount Justice, Two Days Later

After the incident with Dick, I had locked myself in my room at Wayne manor, only coming out for meals seeing as I had a shower in my room.  But now I had to emerge, all because Batman called us for a mission.

"Team, we have gotten word about a ring of metahuman smugglers making the rounds near Niagra Falls, Canada. We need you to go gather intel and report back, as usual."

So here I was, sitting on the bioship headed to Canada with my team in a very tense atmosphere. I could practically feel the worry flowing out of their minds, I didn't even need to use my powers.

With a sigh, I addressed the elephant in the ship. "Guys, I am fine. There is no need to worry."

Tigress looked back at me from her seat, a small smile appearing. "We are always going to worry about you. About all of us. It is what friends do. Its what family does."

Keep your family close, your friends closer, and your enemies closest.

I nodded, replaying the mysteriously commanding voices words in my head as I took note of the way Tigress worded her sentence. Family. That's what we were.

The bioship landed about twenty minutes later just a mile away from where our intel said the smuggling ring was located. We would walk the rest of the way, to be less suspicious.

As the team maneuvered their way through the woods, I stopped in my tracks, signaling the team in the mind link to do the same.

Stop.

What is it, Scarlet Witch?

I sense someone...multiple someones.

Which direction?

Northwest...three people, armed.

And to prove I was right, three people jumped down from the trees. One was dressed in a green dress with a cat mask, the second in red samurai gear and a black and red face mask, and the last one...was Pietro.

Pietro's POV

I stalked past Jason, walking right up to Cheshire and grabbing her shoulder, turning her around roughly. "Where has the Witch been?" I growled.

Jade brushed my hand off, glaring up at me. "Touch me again, and you lose the appendage. And how should I know, it was your turn to watch her."

I growled, grabbing Jade by the throat and tossing her into the wall, placing my blade against her throat. Jason was there in a minute, making me lower the blade. "Dude, cool it. The last time she was seen was when you ran into Iron Man. Maybe they realized how dangerous she is themselves and killed her for us?"

I scoffed, pushing the taller boy off me. "Impossible. Besides, I need to be the one to kill her so I can end this debt and begone from here."

Jason and Jade nodded in agreement, Jade snapping her fingers after a second. "I have an idea. Let me call my baby daddy."

"Your idea is to have a booty call right now?" Jason snorted. "Unbelievable."

"No, smartass, I am going to have him feed the team false info to lure the Witch out so we can strike." Jade smirked, dialing her phone. "He knows I hate people who deal in kids, so he will buy this one."

¤¤¤

I can't believe they bought it.

I watched as the bioship turned invisible and landed about a mile from where Cheshire told Roy 2.0 the smugglers were, the teen heroes getting off the ship and hoofing it straight towards us.

"I have visual, does anyone else?" I whispered into the comms, glaring through the binoculars at the group of young heroes. I was jealous that they most likely didn't owe their mentors a life debt. And that they were free to be the heroes they were meant to be.

"Roger, I have a visual on the target."

"Same. Strike on my count." Cheshire commanded. I watched the Scarlet Witch pause, seeming to communicate with her teammates telepathically. "Now!"

We all jumped  down from the trees we were positioned in, landing in from of the young heroes with our weapons drawn. I glared at my target, seeing tears in her eyes as she stared straight at me. I smirked, maybe she knew what was coming her way.

"Pietro...is that you?" She whispered loudly, taking a hesitant step towards me.

I growled, tightening my grip on my sword. "How do you know my name, Witch?"

Her eyes flashed with hurt before they turned a bright blue, fading back to normal a moment later. She lowered her outstretched hand, a sad smile coming onto her face. "I will not fight you, brother. You could never hurt me."

I paused, my hands shaking as my mind began to throb. Brother? What? "You will not deceive me, Scarlet Witch, and if you will not fight it will just make it easier to kill you."

The Witch let out a small sob as silent tears fell down her face, and with a nod she fell to her knees. "If that is what you wish, you are the eldest, even if only by twelve minutes."

Eldest? Twelve minutes?

The boy next to her known as Nightwing stepped in front of her. "Pietro, stop. She is your sister, you have to remember. Please."

That voice...it is the one from the recordings! But he was speaking a different language before...

"Văr, e bine.  Lasa sa se intample.  Vom fi bine." The Witch spoke in the unknown language from the recording, but somehow I understood what she said.

"You and your cousin will not be fine, Witch. You will be dead! Nothing is okay!" I screamed, running forward and shoving Nightwing out of the way. I saw Cheshire and Jason leap into action, attacking the rest of the team.

I went for their speedster first, tackling him and hitting all the same pressure points I hit on Jason the first time we met. When I was done with Kid Flash, I sped over to the big hitter and did the same thing to the Kryptonian, heading over to the Martian and the Atlantean next. I left Cheshire and Jason to deal with Tigress and Nightwing.

Approaching the still kneeling Witch, I twirled my sword in my hand as I circled her. "Any last words, Scarlet Witch?"

She nodded, her eyes closed. "Just one."

I gritted my teeth, placing my sword over her heart as her teammate's screamed. "Spit it out, I don't have all day."

Her eyes flew open and revealed pure scarlet as she whispered. "Remember.

I was thrown back by a wave of red energy a second after I plunged my sword through the Witch's chest.
