I kept running down the tunnel, ignoring the cries of Black Sun. My only thought was to find Virginia, and make her explain. Explain why she said that it was someone else who set the disease upon the Croatans.

Why? I thought as I approached the rotting ladder. Why did she lie to me?

I scrambled up the ladder, leaving the sound of Black Sun's footsteps behind me.

I finally saw the light of the sun as I climbed onto the ground. I stood there, angry tears forming in my eyes, and breathing heavily from anger.

"COME ON OUT VIRGINIA DARE!!!" I screamed, my tears threatening to fall. "I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME!!! SHOW YOURSELF!!!"

No reply. Not even one glimpse of Virginia. I slid to the ground, and banged my fist on the ground.

"Why did you lie to me...?" I whispered to the ground. "Why...?"

Still, no reply came. More anger began to build up within me, and I stood up. I took off, running into the dense woods. I kept running until I tripped over a tree root, and someone caught me halfway to the ground. I looked up to see Black Sun holding my waist, worry in his eyes.

"White Star, what on earth are you doing?" Black Sun asked me, helping me stand up.

"I-uh-I..." I stammered, still shocked to how Black Sun asked, folding his arms.

"It's all her fault, Black Sun!" I finally sputtered out. "She told me that the only way to set her free was to find out who let the disease spread on the island. She acted like it wasn't her. Now I know that the only way she can be at peace is if I tell everyone about this place, and then they will flock here, and then all of you will die!" I turned around and began to yell into the trees. "IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT, VIRGINIA DARE?!? TO KILL THESE PEOPLE?!? IS IT?!?"

"I didn't mean to..." a small voice replied from behind me.

Black Sun and I turned around to see Virginia standing there, looking at the ground.

"I-I was just...confused," Virginia said softly. "I was confused to why I had to be brought to an underground cave. Away from the rest of my family. One day, when my mother went to collect supplies, she did not come back for a while, so I decided that it was my time to escape. I ran through the tunnel, until I saw the ladder, and I climbed up it. When I was completely out of the tunnel, I ran back to my village. Unfortunately," Virginia sighed. "After I was reunited with my step-brother and my step-father, the illness swept around the village, and almost all of the tribe was wiped out, including me. It is all my fault." Virginia put her head in her hands. "I deserve to be a spirit forever." 

My face softened, and I tried to put a hand on her shoulder, but, of course, it went through. 

"I-I'm sorry, Virginia," I said. "I didn't know that you felt that way."

"Wait, then how will you be brought to peace?" Black Sun asked.

Virginia smiled at us, and began to laugh. 

"Oh, you silly humans," Virginia said, her laughing almost becoming maniacal. "Why, I've always been at peace."

"W-What?" Black Sun and I asked, confused. 

"Did you really think that I would spread the illness to the village on accident?" Virginia replied, smirking. "You're even dumber than that man that came before you, Aria."

"Why would you even do something like that?" I asked, even more confused. "You're only five."

"Yes, I am," Virginia said. "Heck, I'm glad that I am five!" Virginia laughed again. "It makes me as an unlikely suspect!"

"My head hurts," Black Sun suddenly said, sitting on the ground, holding his head. "What is even happening?"

"Why did you do this though?" I asked, confusion rattling my brain. 

"You see, my dear little Aria, I am not as clueless as you might think I am." Virginia smiled. "I know what happened to us."
