4. Bar
Josh pulled the contract out of the folder and placed it in front of Dallon. "I'm assuming you received this beforehand?"
"Correct," Dallon nodded, bringing the paper towards him and the man sitting next to him who Josh assumed was his lawyer.
Dallon Weekes owned a pretty well known appliance company— Sunshine Appliances. They used solar power to cut back on the energy used in the house and were innovative. They've been looking into a partnership with a tech company for an upcoming line and everyone was trying to win Dallon over for this deal, including Josh.
He looked over and saw the Primgold smart watch adorning Dallon's wist and smiled slightly. Maybe he had a better chance than he thought.
"It's outlined pretty visibly with the details and specifics of this partnership," Josh added as Dallon slid it back, more than likely already seeing it.
"I looked over it last night and before you came in," Dallon assured. "We'd each get an equal percentage of the profits that isn't part of outflow, correct? That's really the main part of it?"
"Yes," Josh replied. "The rest is all legal obligations that I trust your lawyer ran past you?" He asked. Dallon nodded, prompting Josh to continue. "Why do you want to work with my company?" He continued, wanting to make sure his foot was in the right door before he walked though completely. This could very well be a huge mistake but he wanted to make sure it wasn't.
"You're climbing. Very quickly," Dallon said simply. "You just surpassed Samsung with sales and you're nearing Microsoft. Hell, it's insane how far you've come at such a young age, Josh. You even made Forbes's 30 under 30 list three years ago. I'm nearing my forties and I'm still not anywhere near the amount of sales you have now at thirty two. I want to see you succeed. I want this line to give you the little push you need to win over the skeptics. I want to make a line of smart appliances and I want to do it with you because I know you can help me as well. That's why I turned down everyone else I've met with, including Apple. I want someone that I can help grow and can help me grow. We both have the money to invest in this and I think we'd make really good business partners. It's why I flew all the way down here from Salt Lake City."
Josh pondered that for a moment. He was right. There was really no reason why they shouldn't work together— or at least attempt to. He wanted this so bad and Dallon was practically handing it to him. "How much are we willing to put into this? Money wise."
"I think we should both start by investing half a million. If we need more then we can put more in, if we don't need as much we can recollect the excess. This is going to be a big line with modern technology and we want to sell as many units as possible."
Josh grabbed the pen next to him and took the contract, signing his name over the line that said 'Joshua Dun, Primgold Technology' before passing the paper back to Dallon who signed his name over 'Dallon Weekes, Sunshine Technology'. He looked up when he was done and Josh smiled, sticking his hand out. "We have a deal?"
"We have a deal," Dallon confirmed, shaking his hand once again. The handshake was simple but it solidified the partnership they had both just agreed to. It was almost like that alone is what set it in stone.
"Perfect, I look forward to working with you," Josh grinned before turning to ha assistant. "Hayley, can you show Dallon's team out? I'd like to talk to him privately."
"Yes sir," she nodded before getting up, leaving her things there. Josh knew she'd come back and get them. The few people Dallon had brought with him glanced at him as if asking for permission. The older nodded and everyone left the room, leaving the two businessmen alone.
As soon as the door shut, Josh let out a breath. "Overwhelming?" Dallon asked, laughing knowingly.
"Just a tad," Josh smiled tiredly. "I love what I do and I love having the ability to do what I do but it's a lot to handle. I hope I'm juggling everything alright."
"You are," the other assured, nodding. "You're impressive, Josh."
"Thanks," he replied. "I just wanted to say thank you for taking a chance in my team. We won't let you down."
"I know you won't," it was Dallon's turn to smile. "I just don't want you to overwork yourself while trying not to."
"No promises," Josh laughed.
"Hey why don't you come out with my wife and I tonight?" Dallon suggested. "We just got our Airbnb last night and we were going to go out for drinks. You should tag along. To celebrate."
Josh remained quiet for a moment, thinking. Jenna did tell him he should get out more. Besides, he didn't want to miss out on this opportunity to get to know his business partner better. "Okay," he nodded.
"Cool," Dallon smiled. "I don't have much to do for the rest of the day so I'll probably go and unpack. Is there anywhere in particular you recommend?"
"No," Josh scratches the back of his head nervously. "I don't really get out much," he laughed lightly.
Dallon pulled out his phone and typed a few things on it before handing it to Josh. He realized it was opened to a new contact and put his name and number in. It was easier than communicating via email or assistant like they'd been doing prior. He handed Dallon his phone back. "I'll look into some places and text you a time and location."
"Awesome," Josh grinned. How bad could it be?
---
Terrible. It was a terrible idea to go with Dallon.
He had received a text telling Josh to meet him and his wife (who Josh found out was named Breezy) at some bar downtown he had never been to in his life at eight thirty. It wasn't too early for Josh to leave even though he would have preferred to say later to make up for the time he had missed by being late.
The first fifteen minutes went great...
Until Dallon ordered two rounds of shots and Josh had to avoid gagging on the nasty taste. Things only got worse in the following ten minutes.
"Hey, Breezy and I are gonna go to the club that's open down the street, you comin'?" Dallon asked, looking at Josh.
Josh glanced at his watch and saw it was almost nine. As boring as it sounded, he was aiming to be out of there by 9:30 and he knew if he went to a club there was no way in hell anyone would let him leave any time soon. "Nah, I think I'll just stay here. Have fun for me though, okay?"
Dallon just gave him a knowing look before waving goodbye to his business partner and leaving with his wife.
That's what left Josh to what he was doing currently— sitting at the bar and replying to emails on his phone. The bar wasn't insanely packed but there were a good amount of people in the building and two people at the bar with him. Two women talking and laughing that were sitting two stools down from Josh's right and a guy sitting five stools down on his left.
He sighed as he began to reply to another email. He had gotten his inbox down to 275 in the last twenty minutes he had been alone but he still had a ways to go. He had only gotten more emails as the day continued and couldn't keep up with all of them.
Sure he could just go home but he wanted to flush as much of those shots out of his system as he could before getting in his car. He knew it wasn't enough to impair him but he was very against getting on the road with any amount of alcohol in him. It was a small decision he could make that could keep him out of a potentially dangerous situation.
Suddenly, he saw someone approach him from his peripheral and he looked up to see the bar tender looking at him, a warm smile on his face. "Anything else I can get you? Another shot? Your friends left and paid for their tab but I didn't know if you wanted another drink."
Josh's eyes caught the man's name tag which read 'Brendon' and he looked back up at his face, meeting his eyes. "Can I just have a water?"
"Sure thing," Brendon pulled out a cup and scooped ice into it before grabbing one of the many hoses on the other side of the bar and filling the cup to the top.
He set it down in front of Josh who just smiled again. "How much?" He asked, beginning to take out his wallet to grab his credit card.
"On the house," Brendon assured. "You look like you're already having a rough night and those shots aren't gonna help," he laughed. "The least I can do is give you free water."
"Thanks," Josh nodded.
"No problem," Brendon walked off and Josh watched him approach the other guy at the bar, striking up conversation with him.
Josh took a sip of his water and couldn't help but think about one thing: how badly he wanted to be at home right now.
