14. Mini Golf

Tyler rang the doorbell and swung back and forth lightly on his feet while he waited for the door to open.

He was picking Josh up for their date since Tyler was the one to plan it. He was a little bummed he had to waste the gas he had but had a plan for paying for the rest of their date.

A few seconds later the door opened and Tyler's eyes widened. Josh looked... nothing like Josh.

He was wearing a baby blue jacket over a white shirt, black jeans, and black converse. He had a black snapback on as well. He was wearing a coat on as well but Tyler ignored that. The younger was starting to think Josh didn't own anything other than suits but he was pleasantly surprised. Josh looked really fucking hot and Tyler had to think of his cripplingly old grandmother so he didn't get turned on.

"Hi," Josh smiled.

"Hi," Tyler let his eyes trail up and down his body and he winked. Josh rolled his eyes and smiled, letting Tyler take his hand and lead him downstairs. "You look good."

"Thanks. You do too," he hummed. "What are we doing?" he then asked.

"It's a surprise," Tyler grinned, swinging their conjoined hands together. "This doesn't make you uncomfortable, does it?"

"As long as no one sees us," he grinned sheepishly. "I get nervous someone who knows me will see."

"It'll be fine," Tyler assured. "We're not going anywhere fancy or homophobic— not that those two always go together —so we should be good."

Josh nodded and tightened his hold on Tyler's hand. The brunette smiled.

It was funny. It was funny how fast he was able to wrap Josh around his finger. Hell, the businessman didn't even know he liked men until Tyler approached him and now look at them— on a second date. Tyler always knew the right way to get under people's skin and manipulate them into doing what he wanted them to do. It was sort of his talent.

They approached Tyler's car (which was obviously a hundred times shittier than Josh's) and got in. Tyler had made Brendon clean it out the night before so it was less embarrassing. "Okay, the plan," Tyler began as he pulled out of the parking lot to Josh's condo. "Is sort of all over the place. It ends with us back at my apartment. We don't have to do anything but I wanted you to see my place and meet my roommate, Brendon."

Josh was silent for a moment and Tyler took his eyes off the road for a moment to look at his face. It was confused for a moment before realization hit. "I've met Brendon," he reminded Tyler. "He tried getting in my pants before you tried," he said, giving Tyler a look.

Tyler giggled. "Oh yeah!" He remembered. "But look who's the one taking you out for the best date you will ever go on?"

"Touché," Josh laughed. "Y'know as annoying as you were I'm glad my friend forced me to give you a chance. You're not that bad."

"I know," Tyler smiled making Josh laugh again.

The two made small talk the rest of the way until Tyler was pulling into the parking lot of their date location.

Josh looked out the window with a surprised look on his face. "Indoor mini-golf?"

"Yes! It's so fun!" Tyler told him excitedly as he got out. Josh followed him and Tyler grabbed his hand once again as they walked in.

He saw Josh let out a sigh of relief when they realized the only other people there were an old couple playing golf and the man working behind the counter. Tyler smiled when he remembered his plan, sauntering over to the desk and leading Josh behind him.

"Hello," he smiled charmingly. The man looked up with an unamused look on his face. Tyler didn't care though. "We have two players and we'll play a nine hole game," he told the man.

"That'll be $22," he looked up at Tyler expectantly.

Tyler went to move his hand to his back pocket, knowing nothing was there. He slipped it in and widened his eyes. "Oh shit," he looked at Josh. "I forgot my wallet at home oh my God I am so sorry. Let's just g—"

"Ty, relax," Josh grabbed out his wallet and pulled a credit card out. "It's fine. I don't mind," he sent the younger a reassuring smile. Tyler had to refrain from smirking.

The man took the card and swiped it before handing it back to Josh and grabbing two clubs and two golf balls. "It's 7:15 and we close in forty five minutes," he said gruffly. "Hurry it up."

"Yes, sir," Tyler replied, grabbing his things and letting Josh grab his. "Let's go."

Tyler and Josh went over to the first hole and Tyler let Josh go first. The blonde dropped his ball on the floor and hit it lightly, watching as the ball rolled directly into the cup. He turned to Tyler and laughed, probably at his surprised facial expression. "What?"

"I didn't know you were good," he whined.

"I've had to play actual golf with more shitty rich people than I'm willing to admit so I've gotten pretty good at this. What? Are you not good?"

"I'm good," Tyler assured, stepping towards the front of the first hole and setting his ball down as well. He hit the ball but it was apparently too hard because the ball raced over the short fencing around the hole and plopped into the pond they had over at hole seven.

He turned to Josh the blonde busted out laughing, causing Tyler to laugh as well. He wasn't embarrassed, he was amused he could fuck it up that badly.

"Seriously?" The man behind the counter yelled, causing the two to start laughing even harder. "You two are sharing a ball now you don't get another one!"

Tyler let out a breath and shook his head. "Okay, maybe I'm not that good."

"Here," Josh walked over and grabbed his ball out of the hole before coming back over and setting it on the ground. He moved behind Tyler and the brunette gasped slightly when he felt Josh's hand cover his own as Tyler held the club. "Bend your body like this," he shifted their bodies ever so slightly. "Move back," he brought the club back. "And, hit it," he brought it forward and Tyler watched in amazement as it landed directly in the hole.

He spun around and pressed his lips to Josh's. The blonde froze for a second more reciprocating, bringing his hand to the small of Tyler's back and pulling him closer. When they broke apart Tyler let out a giggle. "Next one!"

---

Tyler pulled into the parking lot of their second destination for the night. He got out once again and led Josh inside.

As soon as the door was closing behind them, Tyler breathed in the familiar scent of good food. This was his favorite place in all of Columbus and he wanted to bring Josh here.

Also he was hungry.

"Welcome to Dunne's Diner—Tyler!"

The mentioned turned and saw the owner of the restaurant they were in, smiling. "Josie!" He hugged her when he saw her outstretched arms and she rubbed his back slightly.

"Dun?" Josh raised an eyebrow.

"Yes but D-U-N-N-E," Tyler corrected. "I didn't even think about your guys' last names matching aw that's cute," he gushed.

"Who's this?" Josie asked, taking her glasses off and cleaning them on her shirt, careful not to get the apron around her waist.

"This is Josh my..." he paused, thinking. "Date. He's my date. Josh," he turned to the blonde. "This is Josie. Her parents own this diner and I've known her for years."

"Nice to meet you," Josh smiled.

"You too," she smiled back before looking at Tyler. "You here just to stalk me or do you want the usual?"

"The usual," Tyler replied, grabbing Josh's hand once more. "Bring Josh a water."

"Will do!" She called as she walked off towards the kitchen.

"What's the usual?" Josh asked as Tyler led him over to a two person booth. They both sat down on opposite sides and Tyler rested his head in the palm of his hand.

"You'll see," he smiled.

"How do you know Josie?" Josh asked.

"My mom used to work here when I was little and I'd come in after school and sit at the counter until she got off," Tyler admitted. He didn't tell very many people that. Brendon was the only person who knew outside of the people in the situation. However, he knew Josh wouldn't judge him. "Josie's a a few years older than me."

"Speaking of..." Josh took a deep breath. "I saw your ID the first night we went out," he paused. "Are you aware I'm 32?"

Tyler froze. "Um... I am now..." he thought about that for a moment. Tyler did like older men but that was kind of a lot. "Does that bother you?"

"I mean kinda..." Josh told him. "I don't know that's just a big age gap," he stopped, his eyes widening. "That was a real ID, right?"

Tyler giggled. He wasn't that manipulative... anymore... "Yes."

"Good," Josh smiled. "But I don't know. I like you. I assume you like me too because you're still here. Age doesn't really matter if you both like each other, right?"

Tyler nodded. "Yeah. I like you too, for the record."

Josh laughed and Tyler grabbed his hand that was resting on the table. He didn't care if Josh was 73. He was getting what he wanted out of this regardless. That's all that mattered. Once Josh either caught on or went bankrupt Tyler was moving on.

Just then, Josie came back with their drinks and a plate of food for them to share. "All good?"

"Mhm! Thanks, Josie."

"Of course, Ty," she smiled before walking off, carrying the tray under her arm.

Josh looked at the plate of food. "So the usual is cheese fries?"

"The best cheese fries you will ever eat I promise you. This place is wonderful," Tyler told him. "Try one."

Josh took a fry and watched as the cheese gave way from the rest of the food to allow Josh to eat it. He hesitantly put it in his mouth and chewed. Tyler grinned as Josh's eyes widened. "Those are good, holy shit," he laughed.

"I told you..." Tyler sang. "I'm just slowly filling you up with good poor people food because that's the best way to go."

"I think you might be right."

Tyler grinned and winked at Josh. "I'm always right."

And that, he was.
