~~~~~
Another routine school day coming to a close. Everyone getting out of the class at the final bell to the next part of the day. Some going to the library or clubs, but most were getting out of there. Including four girls and a guy with dark hair getting into a limousine. Strange enough it was all considered normal. The limo was coming to the school twice a day for six days a week. Everyone was getting used to it.
The driver did a head count. "Five today? No six or seven?" He asked.
"This is it." Called Ichika the older sister.
"Right away. Thank you." With that he checked his mirrors and drove away.
The driver of the limo was the friend and assistant to Father. The one who was supporting all five quinns. Though it was interesting on how the word "support" came about. Technology is well advanced. But to only have communication with them by calling them once in a while and having your assistant do the work is not being hands on. Living in a different house adds icing to the cake. Then not knowing their interests, who cooks the best, friendships, boys, and everything else was the lettering on the top, candles, and other decorations.
The assistant came into the office of Maruo Nakano. He was filing paperwork at his desk. "I am back sir."
"Ebata. Very good. Five passengers I hope." Said Maruo going into a file cabinet. (Yes Ebata is the name via Wiki)
"Four girls and the tutor sir." Said Ebata nervously.
Maruo closed the cabinet shut. "What!?"
"I was told that was everyone from the oldest."
"So which one of the girls did you not bring home?"
"Nino sir."
"Why? Another time in the library alone with that boy? How could this be? What project are they working on? They don't even have any classes together. Is this for his own project? What do I pay him for?" Maruo was getting highly annoyed.
"You pay the boy that was in your limo sir." Correctly Ebata.
"Regardless." He boomed. "Why would I pay him if she is not there at the house?"
"That other boy isn't keeping the check Maruo. He doesn't collect any of it. He is just happy to be around."
"So what if he is not around? What is he doing to Nino? What is their professional relationship? It's improper for them to constantly be alone."
Ebata wanted to settle everything down. "But Maruo. He too is a good student. Not the best, but with one less girl he gets to help them. You know how much they struggle. Realizing that they have different weaknesses. If Nino has one on one time outside work and she improves that's why these boys are around. Or any boy. Or if it's a woman who's in a college major. Anything."
"One on one could be done at their house I pay for."
"The girls could bring a boy into the house and you wouldn't know."
Ebata was right. They could. And he wouldn't know it. They have flunked and been bad students all of this time. How many had an interest of going to college? Could any of them bring friends over or a guy they met? These were questions he did not know. And with him being a busy man to the point where he orders his assistant to drive them to school to home and home to school six days a week plus an odd trip here and there, all of that was unanswered. The big-shot businessman had not a clue. Knew that one was athletic, someone had to have cooked, and all of them needed help to raise their GPAs (Grade Point Averages).
Maruo was beginning to think out loud. "So the only explanation is that the boy (FN) that I asked to drive Nino home that one day from work. He's with her and I lack the details."
Ebata was pondering the subject as a whole. "If I'm correct, the boys joined them for the festival. I was told homework or they couldn't go. Do you fear they are doing something they shouldn't?"
"They better not. Otherwise I will not be happy."
Ebata wanted to explain. "But sir. If I may Maruo. Why do some of the girls work? They don't have to work. Does Nino need to work at that restaurant? Nino has an internship to somewhere. Why need an internship if she is not going to college? She won't get in with her grades. There is so much that both you and I do not know. We do not live with the girls and when I see them I am behind the wheel. What do you want us to do from here?" He is surely right. They aren't little girls anymore. They are nearly adults and are all different. Have different personalities and needs.
"I'll make a phone call." Maruo went to his desk and dialed.
Nino was at the restaurant she worked at. This time as a customer. You sitting at a table for two across from her. Having grand plates of food and in the sense this was your first actual date. No hiding, nothing to do with school being priority, and just allowed to be yourselves. Just such a grand opportunity to do so.
"So you hope to have your own cafe or restaurant sometime?" You asked her.
"I mean in the perfect world. Doubt Father will fund it but I can do something to work my way around. It's just how it goes." She replied unsure.
"I mean I get he is well off, but there is a difference between housing, food, clothes, and that good stuff versus buying a space and everything that needs to go inside of it."
"Exactly. And the fact that I'm just turning eighteen and all. It's rather bothersome. But I can figure it out." She felt her phone vibrate. Taking it out of her purse and answering it. "Hello?"
< Where are you? >
"Father?"
< Yes. It's me. Now answer my question. Where are you? >
"I was in the mood for shrimp and I'm at the restaurant I work at."
< Why not cook it at home with the girls? >
"The Miyagi sauce. It's a recipe and he won't tell me. Otherwise I would." She was good. This time hiding it seemed much better. But if the girls had to get away with something once, they could probably do it. Anything after that is prone for Father to find out.
< Where's (FN)? >
"This is a quick pickup. He's outside helping me with this snack break."
< Ah. So you're using your tutor's aid for an errand. Okay. But I'm watching you. >
"Anything else?"
< Continue. > Click.
"Such as asshole." Complained Nino.
"He trying to reach for something?" You asked her.
"Something. It is probably us but I don't care. We will figure it out. I'll pay taxis. I don't care whether he approves or not." This date was nice but that was a bad taste in the middle of dinner.
"Got it. Though you got me curious. Outside of us doing our best to be with each other, what is so special about the Miyagi sauce."
"I'm telling you. We're going to be having a debate on sauce. Just a fair warning." She giggled.
( Fun fact. Being a New England Yankee or rather living in New England and working in New York, I have these debates a lot. My apprentices know this. Especially Gazzy, Omega, and Tina. )
"Well I'm game."
She dipped a shrimp and brought it close to your mouth. "Say ah Boo."
"Ahhh..." She fed it to you. "Damn. You're right. That is really good. Wait." You get this good aftertaste to it. "Oh. Yeah. I totally get it. But you know the recipe or was that a bluff?"
"I'm studying this recipe. Trying to see if I can find out what it is and make an attempt or so. Men like Miyagi back there don't give up their sauce recipes. It's like barbecue. Same thing."
"Touche. After this we study at my house since we're around the corner?" This was a first time offer. But since your parents met her this is all fine. They like her. Which is a huge deal.
"Thanks Boo. We'll try hard and I hope I pass."
"Me too." Especially since Pops is in on my case. It's like a cranky friend that doesn't let you around the girl you're talking to because she doesn't think you're good enough.
~~~~~
Pops is on the top of this like cool whip. Watch your ass boy.
