Chapter - 3
I looked at Zain, shocked. I noticed him having the same expression.
Suddenly, we noticed the little patient making some weird noises. I looked at him and noticed how he was struggling to breathe.
"Nurse!" I said as I bend down to the little boy. "Oxygen mask right now."
The nurse quickly grabbed me an oxygen mask. I put the oxygen mask on the little boy's nose and noticed him breathe normally again.
The whole time Zain didn't let go of the boy's hand. I looked at the security guards and then to Zain.
"It's okay. You can go back," I said to the security guards.
The security guards nodded and left.
I looked at the nurse and said, "Make sure to provide an extra care while he is in our care."
"Your care?" Zain asked as I looked at him. "You are going to keep my kid in the hospital? He is only 3!"
"He is only 3 which is why he needs extra care, Zain," I said to him.
He looked at the little kid and nodded. "I just want my son to be alright."
I nodded. "You want to follow me in my cabin? I need to speak to you about your son's condition."
"Yes," he said as he got off from the bed and followed me.
I made my way towards my cabin and open the door snd let him inside. "Have a seat," I said as I took off my gloves and rubbed some hans sanatizer on my hand.
Zain took a seat on my desk. I then went to my desk and sat across from him. It felt so tense around him after so many years.
"That's your son, right?" I asked, trying to ease the tension.
"Yes, he is. His name is Aasif Iqbal and he is only 3 years old," Zain stated.
Aasif, huh? I feel like I heard that name before.
"I am sorry if I couldn't come here earlier but he is going to be okay, right?" Zain asked.
"I hope so, Zain," I said. "But, his medical condition was serious. He has Anaphylaxis which is most dangerous level of allergy. You should have been more careful about him."
Zain looked at me, shocked. "Aasif has what?"
"Anaphylaxis, a life threatening -"
"A LIFE THREATENING!"
"Stop yelling," I said. "This is a hospital, not your private house."
I saw Zain calm down and mutter a small 'sorry.'
"So yeah, he is allergic to egg, shrimps, peanuts . . . usually this are very common in children but as for Aasif, it is kind of serious," I said.
"I had no idea," he said. "I can't believe it. Usually it is the maid in the house who takes care of him."
"Maid? Wow. So, your own son has allergy and you didn't know it but your maid knows it?" I said. How much of an irresposible dad is he?
"I honestly didn't know and I even brought him lunch which had eggs in them," he said. I could see how upset he was.
"I want him to be admitted to the hospital for a week," I said.
Zain looked at me shocked. "No! You can't do that."
"Zain . . ."
"He is my son, Sumaiya. How am I going to be away from him for a week! I always work non stop and the only time I see him is at night and now you are going to take that away from me too?" he asked.
I looked at him. I was getting angry. "Listen Zain! I am not here to argue with you. You were being a jerk to me in highschool and the only reason why I am being nice to you is because of your son since he is my patient. Now, if you don't want him to be treated then it is your choice. Take him home and when his health get even worse than now, then bring him again to the hospital," I said as I stood up from my chair.
Zain staired at me, horrified.
I grabbed my bag and was going to get out of my cabin when I heard him say, "Wait!"
I stopped and looked at him.
"I am sorry," Zain said. "Look, picking up a fight with my son's doctor wasn't the best choice but I am sorry."
Wow, did he just say 'sorry' three times now? At high school the word 'sorry' was not even in his dictionary. I looked at Zain and was shocked. He had tears in his eyes. "Um . . . Zain?"
"Sumaiya, I am really sorry. I will admit my son to the hospital for 1 week but just keep him healthy. I just want my son to be okay at any cost. He is my only hope of living," Zain said.
I stared at Zain in shock. He was crying? The beast who bullied me continuously days after days is crying? Just how much did he changed?
"Zain, look I am sorry. I didn't mean to be this rude to you," I said. "I understand what you mean. I am a mother too."
Before I could continue more, my cabin's door opened and Nazia came to my cabin and without looking at Zain she looked at me and began to talk.
"Sumaiya, I kind of fluctuated your car's tire," Nazia said.
I looked at her in shock. "You what? How the heck I am suppose to pick up Aara from her daycare now? And how am I suppose to go home, idiot?!"
"Well, it's not my fault. Your car's tire was just weak . . ." as she began to say more, her eyes fell on Zain.
I noticed her shock reaction. She looked at Zain and then at me. she hold on my arms and said, "Why the heck is my bloody brother here?!"
