Chapter - 2
I parked my car in front of the daycare center. I then got off my seat and went near Aara's seat and opened the door for her. She quickly jumped out of the car and hold onto my finger. I escorted her to her daycare center. Before she go to her daycare center I leaned to meet her height and she pressed a kiss on my cheeks.
"Bye mommy!" she said and then gave me a hug and ran towards her day care.
I waved at her and watched her going inside the center. I checked my watch. It was 7:30 am. I need to reach to the hospital by 8:00 am.
I went to my car and began to drive towards the hospital. It was around 7:50 am when I parked my car in the parking lot of the hospital where I was working.
I got out of the car and began to go towards the hospital. As I walked in the hallway, I heard "Good morning," greeting from all the nurses and other doctors.
I went to my cabin and looked at my scedual. I had work today till 8:00 pm. I sighed.
My cabins door burst open as an woman wearing her white lab coat and stethoscope ran to me and hugged me. "Assalamualikum Sumaiya!" she said.
I hugged her as well. "Walikum Assalam Nazia!"
I pulled away from the hug and looked at her hibaj colour. It was pink. The colour that Nazia hated the most.
"Wow! Pink hijab, eh?" I teased making her punch me playfully.
"Oh shut up! My idiot brother just messed up my room trying to find his file so in the morning I couldn't find any of my hijab except this," she sighed.
"Well," I said as I walked towards the wall closet where my white lab coat was kept. "You don't look bad," I said as I grabbed my lab coat and put it on.
"Yeah right," she said, gumpily. "Oh, how is Aara?"
"She is good," I said as I grabbed my stethoscope and put it around my neck. "Still asking for something that I can't give her," I sighed as I adjected my hijab a bit.
"Well, you cannot blame her," she said. "She is a kid after all and which kid doesn't want to see her mom and dad together?"
"You know why I divorced him, Nazia," I said, grabbing my files which contained the documents of the health report of the patients.
"I do," she said. "And you did the right thing. But, still, maybe you can remarry . . ."
"Nazia . . ." I interrupted her. "Marriage needs patients which I don't have. Plus, what garantee is there that if I remarry, I am going to get a good husband?"
"But . . ."
"Let's get to work," I said gabbing her hand to pull her out of my cabin.
"You and my brother," she sighed. "You both have the same problem, you know that?"
I laughed. I knew what she was talking about. I have never seen her brother but Nazia always talked about how much of a workaholic freak he was and that after he got divorced, he planned to take care of his son by himself without getting remarried.
"Sometimes I feel like you and my jerk brother are so similiar," she said.
"In the case of marriage," I said. "I think we are."
We talked a bit as we began to go towards the patients' cabin to check on them.
It wasn't around 7 pm when we heard an ambulance. All the doctors were doing their own work when some nurses went near the ambulance and pulled put a stretcher put of the ambulance where there was a little boy lying unconscious.
I saw two senior doctors running towards the little patient. One of the senior doctor looked at me and nodded. I understood his signal and went near the boy.
The nurses took the boy to a room and laid him on the bed. I checked the boy's nerve and noticed his breathing was really slow. This wasn't good.
"Dr. Malik, this boy is suffering from Anaphylaxis," one of the senior doctor said.
I nodded.
"We need to start his treatment right away," another senior doctor said.
"I understand doctor," I said.
We closed the door and began our treatment.
After a good few minutes of the treatment, the boy began to breat properly. All of us sighed in relief.
"If this boy didn't receive CPR in the ambulance then his condition could have been much worse," one of the nurse said.
I nodded. "His heart rate was really low in the beginning but I am glad that it seems to be normal again."
Both senior doctors nodded.
We heard another ambulance and the senior doctors nodded at me and rushed out of the room to treat another patient.
I looked at the little boy who was still unconscious. He seamed like the same age as Aara which uoset me more. Anaphylaxis is a serious issue in allergy cases so shouldn't his parents be more careful about him? I sighed as I took an injection and put it on the little boys arm. Once I finished that, I smiled.
"Now, when he wakes up he just need to take rest and have proper meals. He should be fine after that," I said to the nurses.
"Are we suppose to admit him in the hospital for few more days?" the nurse asked.
"Yes and is his parents in the hospital because I want to talk to them," I said. "I need to speak to his parents -"
I didn't even finish my sentence when the hospital room door burst open with a guy wearing his business outfit and messy hair. He was getting hold my some securities. He eyes landed on the little boy on the bed as he shoved the security gaurds and rushed to the bed.
"Aasif," the man said as he hold the hand of the little boy. He looked so worried. "Doctor . . ." he paused as he looked at me.
I was shocked when I saw him carefully.
This guy . . .
I know him. Where did I saw him? I tried to remember as I felt some highschool memories flashbacked in my brain. As I remembered him, I was shocked. He was the same guy who bullied me every single day of my highschool!
"ZAIN!" I yelled in shock.
