Chapter 23
Dipper
I watched as Pacifica and her family walked down the long driveway and out of sight.
"Pacifica..?" I whispered.
I stood there for a second, staring off into the trees.
What was I supposed to do now?
I turned around and walked into the former Mystery Shack, where Mabel was holding the deed, reading it over and over, her wicked grin getting bigger and bigger.
"Mabel!" I snapped. "Why are you doing this?"
"Oh, did your girlfriend break up with little Dippy?" She teased in a childish voice.
"Knock it off." I growled. "Listen, you better have a good reason for doing this."
"I assure you I do." Mabel set down the deed on a table. "There's something in this old dirty shack that Will says is very valuable."
"We already have money. Is that what this is all about?"
"No, it's not money." She shook her head. "Under this shack is something that could help us take over the world."
"And why would Will tell you and not me?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"I spend more time with him. You always send him to me to throw knives at. Sometimes I'll speak with him and he'll give me information and he'll have one less knife to deal with."
"Mabel, give this house back to the Southeasts, now."
"Oh, so your little crush will like you again? She still won't. She heard you say you would help me, and she knows you sent Will into her mind. Do you really think she'll still forgive you?"
"What about Gideon? You may have better chances with him if you give back the Mystery Shack."
Mabel laughed. "Dear brother, I'll get Gideon to love me eventually. Just wait. If you love Pacifica so much, wait. Eventually we'll get them both."
"I'll be the one to give the deed back then-" I reached to take the deed, but Mabel slapped my hand away. Her amulet started to glow.
"If you're smart, you will wait." She said. "Once we find what we need in here, I'll give this place back to them if your girlfriend is so important to you."
"No, we'll give this deed back now!"
"No, you will wait or I will kill Pacifica."
"Fine." I stepped back.
"Look at the bright side, brother. All of Pacifica's possessions are upstairs for you to look through."
"How low you think of everyone. I have more dignity than that, sister." I turned around and walked away, infuriated.
Pacifica
"Thank you for letting us stay with your family, Wendy." Grunkle Stan said, as we sleepily walked in.
"It's no problem. I'm sure my Dad won't mind, he's at a logging camp visiting my cousin this week with my brothers." Wendy said. "I was planning on throwing a party or two, but you guys can chill here for now. Make yourselves at home."
"Thanks." We all said.
"Don't worry, we'll try and find somewhere else to stay soon." Grunkle Stan said.
Me and Gideon stayed up, flipping through the channels on TV while Grunkle Stan called his lawyer and Wendy went out to go hang out with her friends.
"Pacifica, are you okay?" Gideon asked, as my thumb kept pressing the button to go to the next channel and the next.
"Yeah." My voice croaked, and tears flooded my eyes. "It's just that I trusted Dipper but..." My voice trailed off. "I-I can't trust him now a-and it's j-just all over and I-I t-thou-ght I l-liked him b-but-"
I burst into tears, burying my head in my hands.
"Who cares about Dipper?" Gideon said. "I thought for a second maybe he was an okay guy, too. But we were both tricked by him and Mabel."
"Y-you w-weren't in love with h-him, though." I sniffled. Gideon handed me a tissue, but I didn't feel like wiping my tears or blowing my nose. I just crumpled the tissue in my hands.
"Don't worry, we'll get the shack back. We have one thing he doesn't."
"Grappling hook?" I asked.
"The journal." Gideon said. "But a grappling hook is also good, too."
"Yeah." I nodded, taking a deep breath. "We can get the shack back."
The next day, we went to the Mystery Shack, where Mabel and Dipper were announcing their plans for the Shack. In the large crowd, me, Gideon, and Grunkle Stan were hard to notice.
"Hi everybody!" Mabel stood on the porch of the gift shop as she spoke, while Dipper stood off to the side. I looked down at the ground. The thought of him sickened me. "Today we're here to announce our plans for the former Mystery Shack, right, Dipper?"
"Yeah." He mumbled.
"We're going to turn this old place into a theme park!" Mabel announced. "And bulldoze this old shack!"
"What?" Grunkle Stan ran up to the stage and grabbed Mabel's microphone. "Listen up, this little girl stole my deed!"
"You must be joking, because you gave this deed to me." Mabel took the deed out of the pocket of her skirt. "See here it is."
"That's all the proof I need." A police officer shrugged.
"Escort the Southeasts off of my property." Mabel said to two muscular bodyguards, who dragged Grunkle Stan off the stage, and the other picked me and Gideon up and threw us out of the crowd and past the fence that had been put up overnight.
Dipper's eyes met with mine, but I looked away at the same time he did.
"Sorry about that-" I stopped listening to Mabel speaking as me and Gideon got up and Grunkle Stan was shoved near us.
"So how are we going to get the shack back?" I asked Gideon.
"I think I have an idea." He took out the journal and searched through the pages, then held it out.
"Ummm...are you sure?" I asked.
"Don't worry, I have a plan. If it goes right, the Mystery Shack can be ours today."
I sighed. "Fine."
