Chapter 4
"Jenika!" Tim says with a huge smile as he grabs the blond into his arms. "Oh, my God! I was so worried about you. I asked about you but they wouldn't tell me anything."
"I know. They wouldn't tell me anything about you either." Jenika says as they pull out of the hug. "Are...Are you alright?" She rubs a finger over the small scar above his left brow.
"I have to have a few test run today but hopefully I'll get to go home tomorrow." Tim smiles.
They could only smile as they stare at each other. They lean in and gives each other a tender kiss.
"Please, tell me I'm not crazy." Jenika whispers into the kiss.
Tim straightens up and stares at her. Did she remember?
"Tell me it wasn't a dream." Jenika says with a frightened look in her eyes.
"It wasn't a dream." Tim says as he shakes his head. "Jenika, we have to find them. I promised Adam that I would find him."
"Oh, my God!!!" Jenika begins to sob as she grabs the bass into another hug. "I thought I had gone crazy."
"You're not crazy. If you are then I am too." Tim chuckles as he pulls away and wipes her tears.
"But where do we start?" Jenika asks.
"Mom?" Tim says as he turns his attention to his mom.
Dena had a look of shock on her face. Everything that her son had told them was true. Oh, she wanted to believe him but there was still a slight hint of doubt in her mind.
"Uh.. what, Sweetie?" Dena asks after shaking her head to bring herself out of the state of shock that she was in.
"Can you write down your address for me?" Tim asks.
"Oh, sure." Dena says as she digs through her purse to find something to write with.
She jots down her address and hands it to her son.
"This is where I'll be staying." Tim says as he hands Jenika the address. "When you're able, can you come over? And we'll see what we can come up with."
"I'll be there." Jenika nods and then begins to giggle. She reaches up and brushes back Tim's hair. "The mayor is still at work."
Tim chuckles and hangs his head.
"Tim? It's time for your test." A nurse says as she walks over and unlocks the brakes on his chair. "Jenika, someone is on their way to take you to your's also."
"Wait." Dena says as she reaches for the address that Jenika held in her hand. She begins to write. "This is my phone number. You'll be able to reach Tim at this number."
"Thank you." Jenika nods.
The testing took up the whole morning. Afterward, Tim was taken back to his room to wait for the doctor to come in with the results.
Tim's mood was all over the place. He was happy to have talked with Jenika and knew she was okay and that she too experienced Dead Town. He was irritable and impatient having to wait for the doctor to come in. He was nervous about the tests results.
Tim was anxious to start his research. All he could think about was finding the others. Finding Adam took top priority. He missed that blue-eyed blond so much. His smile, his voice, the sound of his laugh still rang in his ears. Tim could still imagine the feel of Adam's soft lips on his skin.
Tim's head pounded as he sits in a chair by the window, staring out deep in thought. There was no way that he was going to mention his headache for fear of the doctor wanting to keep him longer for more testing.
Dena and Emily had walked down to the cafeteria to get a bite to eat. They knew that Tim had a lot on his mind and needed some alone time.
A hand on his shoulder startles him from his trance.
"Didn't mean to scare you." Jenika smiles.
"I was just...lost in thought." Tim says as he rubs his forehead.
"Thinking about Adam?" She asks with a soft smile.
"Yeah." Tim smiles shyly. "But I'm a little worried, Jenika."
"About what?" She asks as she sits down on the window sill.
"In Dead Town, everyone looked so healthy. But you have to remember that what we were seeing was their spirits. Some of the guys had horrific accidents." Tim says as he reaches up and rubs the scar on his forehead. "Will they be scarred or suffer from some kind of disability because of their accident? I mean, I have a scar and I'm sure you do too. I can't see Chance walking away from that burning car with no scars."
"That's true." She replies as she opens her blouse just enough to show him the scar on her chest from her surgery.
"Wait..." Tim says as he notices for the first time since she came in that she was not wearing a hospital gown. "Are you going home?"
"Mmhmm." She answers with a smile as she buttons her blouse. "My brother, Christopher, is on his way after me. Have you heard anything from your doctor yet?"
"Not a word." Tim says as he rubs his forehead again to try and ease his headache.
"Well, your injury was a bit more serious than mine was. Are you alright?" She asks when she notices the pained look on his face.
"I have a slight headache but please don't say anything. God knows I don't wanna stay in here any longer than I have to." Tim says.
"But what if it's something serious, Tim. You had a bullet in your brain, that's nothing to take lightly." Jenika says in a worried tone.
"I'll be fine. It's just all this worrying about the others." Tim says with a sigh.
"Don't worry. We'll find them." Jenika says with a smile as she rubs the brunette on the back of the head. "Soon you'll have that blond back in your arms."
"God I hope so." Tim says quietly. "He's all I think about."
They both turn as they hear a light tap on the door.
"Jenika?" A man calls as he peeks into the room.
"Yeah, I'm here." Jenika says as she gets back into her wheelchair. "Tim, this is my brother, Christopher."
"Glad to meet you." Tim says as he shakes the young man's hand.
"Likewise." Christopher says with a smile. "The nurse told me I'd find you here. You ready to go?"
"I'll be staying at Christopher's place." Jenika says as she write's something down and hands it to Tim. "Here's his number. Call me when you get released."
"Okay, I will." Tim nods as he takes the piece of paper.
"I'll see you soon." She says as she gives him a tight hug and whispers next to his ear. "Take care of yourself, Mayor Tim. We'll find them. Don't worry."
"I hope so." Tim says as he places a kiss on her cheek.
"We will." Jenika smiles and gives him a wink before she and her brother leave the room.
Tim gets up and walks over to a suitcase that his mom had brought to him containing a change of clothes. He slips the number into the side pocket.
"Was that Jenika leaving?" Emily asks as they walk in.
"Yeah, she was released." Tim says as he looks up and sees the doctor walk in with her and his mom. In his hand, he carried Tim's results from his test.
Tim slowly sits down on the bed. His heart beating hard in his chest as he nervously awaits the results.
"How are you feeling, Tim?" The doctor says as he opens up the folder.
"Right now? Scared sh*tless." Tim says with a nervous smile as the doctor laughs.
"Well, all your test results came back pretty positive." The doctor says with a nod. "But there may be some side effects from the injury that you had that I need to talk to you about. Such as headaches and I do mean severe headaches. And you may or may not experience a little dizziness from time to time. I'll prescribe you some pain medication for your headaches. But other than that, everything else is fine."
"So when can I go home?" Tim asks.
"Well, I was going to keep you for one more night but the results are very good and I really think you'd feel much better at home." The doctor says with a smile. "So I'll have the nurse fix up your discharge papers. Give us about an hour or an hour and a half and you'll be headed home."
"Thank you, Jesus." Tim mumbles as he runs a hand through his hair.
