Chapter 3
As hard as Tim tried to go to sleep, he just couldn't. His mind raced in a million different directions.
He didn't have time to be laid up in the hospital. He needed to talk to Jenika. He needed to find Adam and the others. How were they? Did Avi and Kevin make it out? So many questions he needed answers for.
He looks around at his mom asleep on the couch and his sister stretched out in the recliner. He didn't realize just how much he missed them until now.
He presses the button to call the nurse. He was definitely going to need something to help him sleep.
"Need something, Handsome?" An elderly nurse asks softly and she walks quietly into the room.
"Is there any way I could possibly get something to help me sleep?" Tim asks.
"That doesn't surprise me." The nurse smiles. "Are you hurting any?"
"No, I guess have a lot on my mind." Tim answers, shaking his head.
"Understandable. I'll be right back." The nurse says as she turns to leave the room.
"Thank you." Tim says with a smile.

"Mr. Foust? Would you like to wake up and eat you something?"
"Not unless it's biscuits and gravy with bacon." Tim mumbles as he opens his eyes.
"Sorry, no biscuits and gravy with bacon. But how about some scrambled eggs and toast?" The orderly says as he raises Tim's bed up so he could eat.
"Actually, it doesn't sound too bad." Tim smiles. He looks around to see his mom and sister gone. "Where did my mom go?"
"I saw them head down to the cafeteria earlier." The orderly says as he moves the tray in front of Tim. "There will be someone coming in a little bit to help you out of bed to see how you do."
"Awesome." Tim says as he takes a sip of tea. "I'm getting a little tired of laying flat on my back."
"I can imagine. If you need anything just yell." The young orderly chuckles before leaving.
"Not bad for powdered eggs, I don't guess." Tim says to himself as he begins to eat his breakfast.
A few minutes later, the door opens and his mom and sister walk in.
"Well, good morning, Sweetheart." His mom says as she leans over to kiss him on the cheek. "Enjoying your breakfast?"
"It'll have to do I guess." Tim says before taking a bite of his toast.
"When you get out of here, I'll fix you a breakfast fit for a king." Dena smiles as she sits down next to the bed.
"I can't wait. Someone is coming in later to help me out of bed. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a shower too." Tim says as he pushes his empty tray aside.
"Once they'll see that you're out of any kind of danger they'll be releasing you." Emily says.
"That's good. I have things I need to do." Tim replies.
"Well, you need to take it easy for awhile." Dena says sternly.
"I don't have time to take it easy, momma. I have to find him." Tim says as he turns his head to the window.
"You know, Tim. Mom and I have been talking about all that you told us." Emily says and then continues when her brother gives her a questionable look. "As crazy as it sounds, we believe you."
"It just sounds too vivid to be a dream." Dena says. "You've described everything so precise, right down to the design of the hotel room's wallpaper. Even the disgusting odor of the demon dogs."
"Thank you." Tim smiles as he wipes the tears that were building up in his eyes. "I love you guys so much."
"Good morning, Mr. Foust." A fairly muscled up man says as he walks in. "I'm John. I'm here to rescue you from this bed for awhile." He chuckles as he hands Tim a bathrobe to slip on. "You might want to slip this on. Those gowns don't cover very much."
"Bless you." Tim smiles as he begins to put on the robe.
"How are you feeling since you've eaten breakfast? Any nausea?" John asks as he takes Tim by the arm to help him stand.
"No, I feel fine." Tim answers shaking his head.
"Any dizziness, fatigue, weakness or shortness of breath? Headaches?" John asks as he helps Tim over to a chair.
"No, none." Tim answers.
"That's great." John smiles. "We're going to let to sit here for a little while to see how you do. I'll be back in a little bit to see how you're doing and if you're still feeling okay, I'll help you walk around the room a little."
"Will I be able to take a shower?" Tim asks.
"Sure but I need to be in there with you when you do." John says before he starts to chuckle at how his answer sounded. "What I meant was that I need to be in the BATHROOM with you, not the shower. Just in case you get dizzy or pass-out."
John left with a promise to be back in about an hour. Tim, Dena and Emily begin to get caught up on things that Tim had missed since the shooting. They told him that his bandmates had been to visit only a couple of times but soon stopped coming. He told them all about Adam and Dead Town. He told them about the special abilities that he had while he was there that no one else had.
It all sounded too crazy to believe. But the way he described each person and each building, they knew in their hearts that it wasn't some made-up fantasy.
John returned and Tim was able to take a badly needed shower. The shower alone made him feel 100% better.
"So, how much longer do you think I'll have to stay here?" Tim asks as John helped him walk around his hospital room.
"You're doing great. Much better than we anticipated. If you continue to not have any issues then tomorrow you'll be able to leave your room, in a wheelchair, of course. They'll want to do a few tests such as standard blood work, a chest x-ray to make sure no pneumonia set-in since you were on a ventilator and immobile for so long, maybe a final head CT. Which they'll probably do all these sometime tomorrow. If everything turns out good, you'll probably be released the next morning." John answers. "Have you been coughing or having breathing problems?"
"No." Tim says, shaking his head.
"Well, that's enough for today." He says as he walks Tim back over to the bed. "Don't want to over-do it. I have another patient that I need to tend to."
~~
The next morning after breakfast, a nurse came in bringing a wheelchair.
"Good morning." A very cheerful nurse smiles. "It's a beautiful morning, would you like to get some fresh air out in the garden?"
"Sounds great." Tim says as he reaches for his robe and slips it on.
"They have some tests scheduled for you a little later. I'm guessing that you're ready to get out of here." The nurse laughs.
"You're guessing right." Tim nods as the nurse pushes him down the hallway. Dena and Emily walk just a few steps behind.
The automated doors to the garden open and the fresh air was exactly what Tim needed.
The garden was full of pretty flowers and small trees. There were several benches and a beautiful water fountain sitting in the middle of the garden.
"Wow, this is beautiful." Emily says as she and Dena sit down on a bench near the fountain.
"You first test is in about an hour and a half." The nurse says as she parks Tim's chair beside the bench. "I'll be back after you then."
"I am so ready to get out of here." Tim says as he looks around at the other patients that were out enjoying the gorgeous weather.
"I know you are, Sweetheart. But we need to make sure everything is alright." Dena says as she pats her son on the hand.
Tim's head quickly snaps around as he hears a familiar voice.
"Tim? Oh, my God!! It is you!!" A female voice says.
Tim's eyes meet the smiling but tear-filled blue eyes of Jenika.
