Chapter 28

Tim and Adam worked all evening putting the new blinds and curtains up and unloading everything that had been bought. Putting the beer, water and drinks in the refrigerator.

After getting some water from the faucet outside of the train station, they washed and dried all their new dishes and silverware, putting them away in the cabinets and silverware drawer.

They worked on putting the bookcase together and finding the perfect place to set it. Tim unpacks the books that he had brought from Texas and places them neatly on the shelves.

Adam smiles as Tim decides to try out the new recliner. He could tell by the look on the brunette's face that he was quite pleased with the way it sat.

Tim smiles up at his lover and pats his lap. Adam would never turn down such an invitation.

"You know..." Tim says as he wraps his arms around his lover and looks around the living room. "This is beginning to feel like home."

"It's definitely beginning to look like a home and not the empty house that we found." Adam adds as he lays his head back on Tim's shoulder. "We could use some pictures or something on the walls."

"Yeah, but don't say anything to Kelsey about it. She'd be going out and buying some Van Gogh or Picasso paintings." Tim chuckles.

"For real." Adam smiles. "Besides, this is something that we need to do together."

"I'm down with that." Tim nods, kissing his lover on the temple.

"What are we going to do for supper? I'm getting a little hungry." Adam says with a sigh.

"Jenika, Olena and Sami went shopping today. They bought groceries and supplies to stock the train station. They said they were making something special for us tonight." Tim says as he looks around the living room, trying to decide what else was needed.

"Cool. It will be our first meal together as a family at our new home." Adam smiles.

"I think everybody is happy here, don't you?" Tim asks.

"Oh, absolutely." Adam nods.

"Oh, by the way, Chance got that job as an auto mechanic in town. He was so excited when the guy called him." Tim says.

"Really? That's awesome! I'm so happy for him." Adam says with a smile.

"We need to start looking too as soon as possible." Tim says. "It shouldn't be too hard for you to find a job with your experience in radio."

"Question is, is there a radio station around here though." Adam replies.

"We'll just have to ask around." Tim says just as there is a knock on the door. "Yeah?" He calls out.

"Hey, guys." Jenika smiles as she walks in. "Oh, wow! Y'all got this place looking nice."

"Thanks." Adam smiles proudly.

"Supper is about ready if you want to head on over to the station." Jenika says.

"I'm more than ready." Adam giggles as he stands up from his seat on Tim's lap.

As they make their way over to the train station, the couple notices all the guys waiting outside on the porch.

"What's going on?" Tim asks as they walk up the steps.

"They have us locked out." Avi chuckles.

"We wanted to surprise you all at the same time." Jenika giggles as she squeezes through the group of guys to unlock the door.

"D*mn, it smells good in here." Tim says as they walk into the entrance hall.

Jenika smiles as she leads them to the huge dining room.

"Holy moly." Avi breathes as they eye the long dining room table.

The girls had fixed a huge Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and ham, dressing and all the trimmings.

"We have a lot to be thankful for so why not have a Thanksgiving dinner as our first meal together in our new home." Olena says as she places a tray of boiled corn on the table.

"Tim? Would you like to sit at the head of the table, Mr. Mayor?" Austin smiles.

"Well, I actually think that Rob needs to sit at the head of the table while he's here." Tim replies. "After all, without him, none of this would even be possible."

"I agree." Adam says as he pulls out the chair at the head of the table. "Governor Lundquist? Will you have a seat?"

"Governor Lundquist?" Rob laughs as he sits down.

After a blessing is said by 'The Governor', they dig in. Everyone laughing and chatting about first one thing and then another.

They talked about finding jobs, the greenhouse and what vegetables were the most requested.

Tim brought up the idea of having security lights installed that would automatically come on at sunset. Some agreed, some disagreed.

Avi strongly protested the idea.

"Have you guys ever seen the desert's night skies?" Avi asks. He was answered by headshakes. "Well, then, follow me."

Avi leads everyone outside away from the lights of the train station.

"Look up." The bearded man requests.

"Wow!" Tim gasps as he stares up at the billions of stars.

"LOOK! A SHOOTING STAR!" Sami squeals as she points to the heavens.

They all stood hypnotized by God's creation.

"Street lights would blind us from this." Avi says.

"It is beautiful, Avi, but it's so dark out here. What if someone needs to go to the bathroom?" Jenika asks.

"That's what flashlights are for." Austin answers as he looks at the beautiful desert skies.

They head back inside to continue their discussion. Avi's display had changed a lot of minds and the idea of street lights was abolished. Motion censored lights were still a possibility. They would ward off coyotes or unwanted visitors. But the lights would only be placed on the path to the train station.

Tea glasses were refilled as they continue to discuss other things.

"Tim, you remember giving me the privilege of naming this place?" Rob asks.

"Yeah, did you come up with something?" Tim asks.

"Well, Kelsey and I sat down and made a list of names. And after several hours of discussion, we finally decided on what I think is the perfect name." Rob smiles as he strokes his beard. "I think you all are going to love it."

"Tell us." Chance says with a smile.

"I'll do better than that, I'll show you." Rob says as he stands from his chair. "Be right back." He adds before heading outside to his car.

"What if it's something stupid?" Austin whispers to Olena.

"Will you hush." Olena scolds as she smacks him on the arm.

Rob walks back in carrying a long flat box. He lays the box on the table in front of Tim.

"Mr. Mayor, I will give you the honor of opening it." Rob smiles proudly.

'What if Austin was right? What if everyone hated the name?' Tim thinks as he looks down at the box. He would just have to put his faith in Rob's name choice.

"This is so exciting." Jenika giggles as they all lean forward, anxious to see what was inside the box.

"I had it made at a little shop in Minneapolis." Rob says as he watches Tim work on opening the box.

"Oh. My. God." Tim says as he removes the tissue paper. He looks up at Rob and smiles. "This is perfect, Rob."

"I love it." Adam, who was sitting next to Tim, grins as he looks into the box.

"Well, don't just sit there. Tell us what the name is." Chris fusses.

Tim chuckles as he takes the sign out of the box and turns it around for the others to see.
