"He's down there. We need to get to him, now!" Erik said shortly while frowning in Charles's direction. He simply frowned in return, he expected a reaction like that. He honestly wasn't expecting Erik to just sit back comfortably and bide time until he could find Shaw. From around Erik, Charles could see Liesel lean forwards and look to him with a smile. At least one of them was content enough to see if he had any other bright ideas. It was good to have one patient person present.
Eventually Charles looked away from the annoyed male beside him and nodded. Looking towards the cockpit, he looked to Hank who was just getting the jet back under control. It was now level and travelling at a steady pace, no more turns, and certainly no plummeting lows. "Hank?" He called out, he knew the blue furred mutant was listening in to the activity which was happening in the cabin behind him. A quick glance from over the shoulder alerted Charles enough that he was clearly trying to figure this problem out too. "Is there anything unusual on the radar or the scanners?" He asked while setting a quick glance in Moira's direction. She was in charge of all the readings which were coming from the monitors around her. If anyone would know if something suspicious was happening below, she was the lone person to know.
As if snapping back to reality, Moira looked quickly to the monitors and screens around her. Her eyes flicked from one to another before her lips pressed into a thin line and she frowned from slow growing annoyance. "No, nothing." She replied at length, and sounding rather defeated. She had hoped that something would blip, but no. Of course Shaw wasn't going to be that easy to find, they shouldn't all be so surprised by this hassle of a task.
"Well then he must be under water." Hank said shortly with a sigh as he shrugged. "And obviously we don't have a sonar." He muttered rather irritated by this plain truth as he concentrated on the controls.
"Yes, we do." From the sudden silence Sean piped up with a sure look on his face. He gave a fidget and straightened up in his chair while smiling proudly to himself.
Charles's attention quickly turned away from Hank, and Moira who was still trying to find something, to Sean. His self-assured sudden disposition seemed to travel, and rather quickly enough Charles looked around with a new sudden sense of urgency. "Yes, we do." He reached down to unclip the harness. The sudden freedom caused him to fall forwards slightly and awkwardly catching his balance he managed to move over to where Sean was sitting. He was too busy paying attention to aiding Sean up that he hadn't quite realised that Erik was up and about too. He quickly looked at him and then made a quick grab for the overhead handrails when the jet started to do a slight turn. "Hank, level the bloody plane!" Charles exclaimed over his shoulder. Walking or attempting to walk on a tilted surface which was moving was very hard.
After a few seconds the ground levelled out and the three of them moved over to the door. Sean didn't seem to really hesitate though he did look sceptically at Erik, he frowned and shook his head. "Woah! You better back right off!" He narrowed his eyes slowly at the taller male. He really didn't appreciate being pushed off of the platform on the satellite dish, he certainly wasn't going to appreciate any funny business now; especially if it involved being pushed into the ocean below. Erik smiled in return, he held his hands up in defence and took a step back. He reached up to hold onto the handrail and watched as Charles seemed to give Sean a quiet pep talk. It seemed to work, or Erik presumed it did because Sean didn't seem to answer back really.
Seeing as how he was about to jump out of the now open doorway, Erik risked getting closer. He merely watched the teenager jump out and into the water below, at that point he was level with Charles and looked to him. He sighed and looked at him, "Banshee has a location on Shaw. Are you ready for this?" He seemed rather hesitant to ask. Be fair, Charles didn't think he had ever seen someone so ready before.
"Let's find out." Erik tried to sound nonchalant about it. But really he was finding himself having a slight moment of doubt. The last time he tried to raise the submarine, he had failed. But he wasn't like he was back then. He had firm control on what he could do. He was stronger, and he could do this. Briefly looking away from the open hatch to the passengers behind him, he looked to Liesel, she smiled and reached up to salute him.
He rolled his eyes and looked back to Charles who smiled at the moment. He supposed that was as good of a 'good luck' as he was ever going to get without it being a literal verbal one. Both reaching up they held onto the rails as the jet did a slow turn and headed towards the location of Shaw. Slowing in pace, the wheels shifted and descended along with the jet itself. Managing to jump and climb on, Erik held on tightly as he positioned his feet on the main wheel. Extending his other arm, he held up his hand and scanned the water below.
"Remember, the point between rage and serenity." Having the sudden calm voice of Charles echo in his mind seemed to put him at some ease. Erik relaxed and shut his eyes briefly, only to open them again and with a slight frown, concentrate and urge the sudden feel of metal up and out of the water.
It was gradual at first; the looming dark shape was vaguely visible through the dark blue of the water, but eventually as it came closer to the surface the silver tint of its bodywork could be seen. After a few more seconds, the surface of the otherwise seemingly calm water was broken by the turning blades of propellers. They continued to turn despite not having anything to sail through. With the end now firmly in the air, the front half followed shortly after. Eventually the sleek water vehicle was in the air, suspended with nowhere to go; the occupants stuck on board too with nowhere to go either.
Pushing down on the throttle, Hank made the jet speed off and away from the ships below, the submarine followed suit; with Erik still standing on the wheel, hand outstretched towards it. It all seemed to be going so well, that was until a figure appeared from the top hatch and sent hurtling harsh gusts of wind in their direction. Riptide had clearly had enough of being a passenger, or generally had had enough of this all. Even as the winds pushed against the jet, and even into the cabin, Erik remained unmoving and totally fixated on keeping the submarine out of the water. His attention was so pinned on that he was rather oblivious to the effects of Riptide's attack. The winds caused everyone to wince and shut their eyes, the material cargo nets whipped about and on the cabin floor Charles had knelt down to not only try and coax Erik back inside, but to avoid getting pushed off of his feet and be taken away by the strong winds which still travelled through the cabin.
"Erik, take my hand!" Charles shouted, struggling to make his voice heard over the whirling, howling wind. For the most part it didn't seem Erik had heard him, or even really paid him any attention. Now was not the time to be ignored.
"Hold on guys, it's going to get bumpy!" Hank said with huge amounts of pessimism in his voice. The attack Riptide sent in their direction was causing serious problems. He gazed from the window to the controls and tried his hardest to try and avoid as much of the oncoming attacks as possible. It did little good because the jet still got hit and was hurtled and jostled around. Keeping control was becoming an increasingly hard thing to do. By now it just came to trying to keep the jet as level as possible while being battered about.
An echoed thundering noise was briefly heard and everyone seemed as confused as the next, seeing as how Erik was promptly pulled back inside it was clear he had dropped the submarine and it had landed somewhere. As the submarine spun and twirled on the beach below, the jet did similar manoeuvres in the air. The speed seemed to pick up, and strips of metal was coming away from their holdings as the jet moved down to the ground below.
Much like the submarine, the jet now impacted heavily against the beach. It turned, rolled, and hurtled along for what seemed like forever. With the door still being open, Erik managed to kick himself away from the opening, practically throwing himself on top of Charles he stopped him from falling through when he had lost his balance. The floor became the ceiling again, and slowly Erik lowered them both down. Sitting up and exchanging a look, they looked to the upside down occupants of the chairs. Everyone seemed to be in one piece, which couldn't be said for the jet which was utterly devastated.
"Head rush...is it true that if you stay upside down long enough that all the blood will go to your head and it will then pop off?"
"Liesel!" Raven exclaimed and shot her a look. Why did she have to bring such a bleak thing up right at this minute, while they were hanging upside down?
The German woman blinked and loosened her grip on the harness. She tried to strain against the hold and unclip it, but failed. "Sorry. Trying to lighten the moment."
"What? How is that lightening the moment?!" Alex shot her a glare and shouted her way. He wasn't too pleased about her little comment either.
"Each to their own." Liesel mused while waving her hands in the air, nonchalant like and completely casual as if being upside down on a jet was something she did every day.
"Your sense of humour, or whatever that classes as is demented." Alex furthered on and got a smile from her. "You're not meant to look happy at that." He was defeated by how simply she seemed to agree with him. Noticing Charles coming over, Alex braced himself as he fell out of the chair and landed on solid ground.
Tilting his head to the side, Erik merely smiled. "Demented." He repeated while Liesel wiggled in her chair and frowned up at him. "Come on, stop hanging around."
"I may have demented humour. But yours is just plain stupid." She said and yelped when he rather swiftly unclipped the harness and she went falling to the ground. She landed with a painful thud, and another glare shot up at him. Shaking her head slowly and gently, she placed her hand in the one which was offered down to her. Being slightly wobbly at first she was most thankful to Erik bracing her by holding onto her shoulders. Looking about to see everyone else in rather the same state, he looked sharply to Charles as he started to talk, and what he was saying was really not sitting well.
"I read the teleporters mind. Shaw is draining all the power, he's turning himself into some sort of nuclear bomb." Charles sounded slightly breathless from this whole experience yet looked to the concerned faces around him.
"We can't waste any more time. The Geiger counter is going out of control." Moira heard the repetitive beeping and clicking of it and rushed over to have a closer inspection.
"This is what we'll do." Charles moved over to one of the broken windows, everyone else seemed to get the same idea and peered through too. "Get on the radio and tell them to clear both fleets out immediately." He glanced quickly at Moira, she was still near the equipment, a little battered but still operational, she gave a nod at Charles's words.
"I'm going in." Erik said while watching as the few passengers that were on the submarine, slowly exited and stood on the beach opposite. They lined up, looking ready for the fight which was coming their way, while also trying to protect the submarine behind them; or more importantly, the man in there turning himself into a walking bomb.
"Beast, Havok back him up. Erik, I can guide you through once you're in. But I need you to shut down whatever it is that's blocking me." Charles said while turning away from a hole in the wall to look at Erik, and then at Alex and Hank. They exchanged a look yet gave a firm nod. "And we just hope to God that it's not too late to stop him. Right, good luck!" He said firmly while watching as the three males started to move.
Turning slowly, Erik smiled at Liesel and held out a hand and gestured it to her. "No going back, there's only going forward. We can't hesitate, so come on." She gave a nod and looked to Charles, he didn't seem to be in any position to stop her from going with Erik. So nodding slowly, he watched as she ran to his side and followed after him. Liesel smiled slowly and flexed her hands, she distinctly remembered Erik saying something rather similar to her when they had escaped the camp. She wished to go back, he wished to go forward...seeing as how there was nothing for her back there, her sister was surely dead, she could only follow him.
