chapter six

-LINA'S POV-

"And our love, our love was poetic- the tragic ending was pathetic but our love, I'll never forget it." I sing the last line of my most recent song, my eyes glazing as I refuse to make eye contact with the man I wrote this about.

The crowd bursts into cheers and claps and I feel a smile creep across my face, happiness tugging at my lips.

"Well wasn't that just amazing? It pulled my heart strings. Everyone, one last round of applause for Catalina!" Beth yells, encouraging the crowd of nearly-drunken adults to go wild.

I say thank you before collapsing backstage. My hair is sweaty from the burning spotlight, my hands shaky from the penetrating fear.

"Wow. I have no words, Catalina, you were amazing. Did you write all of those yourself?" Sin asks, appearing from a door that I actually didn't know existed.

I nod, allowing the grin to take control of my face. "Yeah. Yeah, I did. Most of them are old, I've suffered a bit of writers block recently."

"Well that was fucking awesome. Fuck, your going to have to perform here more often."

"I doubt Beth would like that."

"Hey, Lizzie is more mature to worry about some ex from my teenage years."

I roll my eyes, gasping in a high-pitched voice. "I am so sorry, your wise and mature Sin. Do excuse me."

"Hahaha. Hilarious," he plops himself behind me on the seat, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, "I have a question."

"Fire away."

"Was that last song about me? No, sorry, I mean us."

"What do you think, genius?" I raise an eyebrow, my head going back to some of the extremely obvious lyrics.

🎶 And they say good girls go to heaven, but your my favourite Sin, and I'm okay with going to hell cause if i'm with you I win'🎶

"I think it was about me. And I think it was beautiful. You took the thoughts and feelings out of my head." Sin nods slowly.

I nod along, swinging my legs to and fro in an awkward manner. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had never moved to Spain. What would have happened with Sin and I? Would we have became something more- a couple? Would we have lasted?

I have so many questions that I surely could never ask.

Although it is my understanding that Sin has a higher level of maturity, and we both seem to have a better ability to communicate, I don't want to make things awkward by bringing up the past.

Oh fuck it, I'm always one to make them squirm.

"Do you think we would have lasted if I didn't move to Spain?"

Sin looks at me, his face expressing surprise. "Honestly? I don't know. We were young and toxic, but I loved you more than- I loved you. So, in a way I hope we would've, but who knows. Sometimes I- No, it's too much, don't worry."

"Tell me."

"Sometimes I like to think that in the multiverse, in an alternate dimension; we lasted. We have a story, just not in this life."

I stare at him, my eyes glazing up from the top of his body to the bottom. A comfortable, familiar feeling devours my heart and I bite my lip, coughing awkwardly.

"I'm gonna go, um, find Rhiannon. I'll contact you tomorrow about the planning, okay?"

"Okay. See you then." Sin says, scratching the back of his neck as if he were a dog infested with fleas.

"Bye."

****
"Room service!"

Three rapid knocks on my door wake me up, making me leap out of my luxurious state of sleep and dreams, forcing me back into this shitty place called reality.

I kiss the photo of my Abuelo and Madre that sits beside the bed, before getting into my red silk dressing gown. The fact some people call this a house coat disgusts me- it's a dressing gown, end of.

"Coming!" I half-yell, half-yawn in response.

I look like absolute shit, my hair is tied up in a messy world of curls (otherwise known as a bun), last nights makeup rests on my face and I look like the walking dead.

"Morning. I stole your room service. Pan au chocolate? Good choice, but now you've got two as one is for me."

"Sin? We didn't arrange for you to come?" I say, leaning behind the door.

He shrugs. "Sorry. I was in planning mode. If now isn't a good time, I can come back. But I still want this."

"No, no, it's fine, come in. I need to have a shower, but you can just wait in here, get started on planning."

"Sounds good to me," he walks in, smelling the room, "it stinks."

"Well it didn't till you walked in, so I think maybe your the one who needs a shower." I respond as I collect all my hair products.

Sin sticks his finger up at me, being the extremely polite gentleman he is, before sitting down. "I'll research venues, then maybe we can go check some out? If that's okay with you?"

"Checking out wedding venues together?" I raise my eyebrows, deciding the rest of my sentence can be finished with a facial expression.

He laughs. "I know, it's a bit strange. But we said we'd do this."

"Fine. Whatever. I need to call James after my shower."

"James? You got a boyfriend back in Spain?" Sin asks, curiosity flooding his face.

"No. He's my Abuela's carer. I swear I told you that already. He's a bit of a creep, but I need to check everything's okay."

Sin nods and I end the conversation, heading to the shower. I lock the door, I know he won't walk in but just in case. Pressing on an MCR playlist, I hop behind the steamy glass doors and begin washing my hair.

"Because the drugs never work...." I yell at the top of my voice as I run a coconut hair mask through the wild birds nest resting on the top of ny head.

When I finish my shower, I get dressed and complete my morning routine whilst singing to someone top-notch songs by Nickelback, Panic! At The Disco and more. I check my appearance in the mirror before applying a tiny slather of gloss and exiting the bathroom.

"Have you done makeup?" Sin asks, coughing slightly as he speaks to me.

I shrug. "I put gloss on? Not else."

"God, do you want me to give you English lessons or something, Lina?"

"I'm fine with my own messed up way of talking, gracias." I say saltily, sticking my tongue out at him.

He grins. "Alright, calm your tits. You ready? I called up this place, it looks good. I've got my car, so I can drive us there."

"Sounds good I guess." I shrug.

"You guess? Honey, so many gyals are bare desperate for me, you know what I'm saying?"

"You spoke to Jagger or Taylor recently? Why you sound like that? Maybe I need to teach you some English, dipshit. Anyway, are we leaving? I'll
call James in the car."

"Your becoming more comfortable around me. More like the old you." Sin grins, "I like it."

"Sorry, should I become an awkward bitch again? No. I don't know, I feel more normal today."

When we get in the car, Sin turns the radio on a loud volume, letting whatever shitty music BBC has burst through his speakers.

I pull my phone out my pocket, scrolling through my minute amount of contacts before my finger hovers over James.

I glance at Sin. Can I trust him to hear this phone call? He's playing this whole mature, respectful gentleman act, but how do I know it's not a facade?

"I'm not going to listen to your phone call, Lina. Jump into the back if you'd rather." He states, staring at me as if he read my mind.

"Focus on the road, dickhead." I smile, before tapping his contact.

The phone rings for around two minutes. James finally picks up and when he does, he sounds completely off it.

"Catalina! Hola, hola hola! How is England?"

"Hola, James. That don't matter. Cómo está mi Abuela? Todo va bien? Dijiste que me actualizarías. Ni siquiera has llamado." I comment down the phone, speaking Spanish to assure myself that Sin won't be able to comprehend a word.

James chuckles down the line, acting even more like a twat than normal. "She's perfect, darling, perfect. Pago pronto, cariño. Recuerde, si no puede pagar con dinero ..." (Payment soon, darling. Remember, if you can't pay with money...)

"No te voy a joder, James. Te daré el dinero tan pronto como pueda. Cuídala por mí, ¿de acuerdo? Asegúrese de que se tome sus medicamentos.." I respond angrily.

Gasping in shock, I see that he has ended the call. What the fuck? He's my Abuela's carer, for fucks sake, I need to know she's okay. He's a grown adult he can't act like some petty toddler!

"Men. They take the fucking piss." I mutter, glaring all my rage out of the window.

Sin coughs, half-awkwardly, half-playfully. "Tell me about it. We suck."

I turn my head round, looking him up and down, my fury slowly dissolving as I stare at his goofy, boyish grin.

"Your hilarious, aren't you, Sin Moon?"

"I'd like to think so, Catalina Aldonondo. God, isn't that a mouthful. Beautiful name though. Anyways, we are here."

"That was quick."

"You were pissed off, so I broke a few speed limits." He shrugs, getting out the car.

"So responsible, Sin. Good thing I don't have a death wish."

Sin winks at me, before I climb out and he locks the car.

Staring with awe at my surroundings, I already know this is the one for Rhiannon and Brandon. The entrance is covered in beautiful, blossoming trees with leaves of all kind of colours- mainly pink and white, ones that my dear friends favour. There's a gravel road that stops when a long, red carpet scattered with roses meets it, bringing visitors to the equally eye-catching entrance. A huge, white building painted with elegant stripes of pink and huge french doors. It screams class, elegance and would work with the theme of a winter fairytale perfectly.

Obviously the place would be my worst nightmare, but they would love it. And based off the dropped jaw of Sin, apparently so would he.

"This place is..." he says mesmerised, before I interrupt.

"Horrific. Too much."

He coughs. "Yeah, yeah, that's what I was going to say."

"It's absolutely perfect for them, isn't it?"

"It's amazing. Come on, we need to look inside!" He claps, before grabbing my hand and running down the red carpet.

I scream out of surprise, before deciding to fuck it and run with him. But the red carpet is longer than expected and when we get halfway there we stop, absolutely breathless. "It looked smaller than that, right? I'm not going crazy again, I'm sure ir was smaller else I wouldn't have let you drag me like a dog with a toy."

"Remember that your the one who started the dog comparison, right Lina? It wasn't me." Sin says, nodding, his mind probably having a thousand lightbulb moments as he plans times to use this against me throughout the next few weeks.

I fold my arms over my chest, sinking into this long-ass carpet as we practically crawl to the entrance. "If you compare me to a dog, be it a joke or serious, I will show you just how much of a bitch I can be. Is that understood, Sin Moon?"

"Jesus, woman, you need some anger pills. Message received, loud and clear."

"That's good."

When we arrive at the main doors, the outstanding elegance from the outside conveys itself throughout the white building. I knew the first site would only foreshadow what was within; I knew it.

"Welcome to WhiteGlass Estate. Do you have a booking? Viewings are by appointment only, I'm afraid." She says, looking at my outfit distastefully.

I roll my eyes. I put a fucking blazer on, is that not enough for the woman?

I think my outfit looks good. A red blazer, a black cropped shirt, a black pencil skirt, fishnets and black knee high boots.

Looking like a badass business woman should not be an issue for this stuck-up, posh twat.

"Yes, we have a booking. I put it under Aldonondo-Moon."

My eyes flash as I whisper to Sin. "One of our last names would have sufficed."

"Didn't want the other to feel left out." He whispers back, before putting his finger to his lip.

"Ah yes, do excuse me. Your tour guide will be Apollo. I'm afraid he's new and his English isn't particularly swell, but he tries his best. He's of a similar age to you. We try suit our staff to our consumers."

"My husband here is quite familiar with Enterprise and Marketing," I blurt out, a smirk of achievement plastering over my face as I see Sin's reaction, "He owns The Bigger Apple. You may have heard of it? He's there more than he's at home!"

The woman chuckles, seemingly warming to me now she's aware of my fake money status. "Yes, yes! I was looking to book The Arena, I heard it's opened? Oh, Apollo's here! Enjoy the tour, sir and madam."

"Husband?" Sin hisses, but it's my turn to put my finger to my lips as my eyes trace to Apollo.

He's six and a half feet of clearly Spanish heaven.

"Hello. Name's Apollo. Pleasure to meet you." He nods, his eyes equally examining me.

Sin takes a step in front of me, putting his hand out to Apollo. "Sin. Sin Moon. This is Catalina."

"Catalina? Beautiful name. That's my madre's middle name. Espanol?"

"Si." I smile as warmly as my heartless self can do.

Apollo grins as we begin the tour. "Beautiful name, beautiful girl. So what part of Spain did you live in?"

"Vila Nova. I actually currently-"

"We are currently planning another visit, aren't we, my love? We are desperate to see the family and well, that town is just lovely, isn't it?" Sin says, his fingers lacing round mine.

I send daggers with my cold eyes. What the fuck does he think he's doing?

The tour begins to turn frosty and uncomfortable, but the place is the one. I make a note to write down my number on the sheet, so they can call to allow us to be aware of their availability of dates and the services they are willing to do for our budget.

We thank Apollo for his touring service and he thanks us for being so accommodating with his difficulty in the language.

When we leave, it really feels like old times when these are the only words resting on the tip of my tongue:

"What the fuck was that?"

"What do you mean, Cat?" Sin says innocently, heading towards the car.

I roll my eyes, walking behind him. "You know what I mean, Sin. You were acting like a twat."

"Fuck off, just because that's normally your job."

"Jesus, somebody's going through menopause. Loosen up." I sigh, remembering why I left this country in the first place.

When we get in the car, Sin sits in the seat, his leg bouncing even faster than he was speeding earlier. I secure my seatbelt, car crashes are traumatising for everyone involved so that's one thing I actually do. Then I just sit and watch him, half-curious, half-exasperated.

"Are you going to drive then or are we gonna sit here all year?"

"Shut up, Catalina. I want to say something."

"Well? Say it then." I reply.

He sighs, leaning into the wheel. "I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me in there. Your right, I acted like a twat. I'm just really stressed and that's not an excuse, I know, but..."

"Do you want spliff? I've got some in my bag."

"I don't smoke. Lizzie-"

"Isn't your mum. I'm gonna light one up, so if you want to join me, then do so."

"Aren't you an addict?" Sin asks, watching as I place the bill against my lips, lighting it gently.

I take a long pull, exhaling gently as I speak. "Yeah."

He chuckles. "You really don't care, do you?"

"Nah. My life motto's fuck it now. Solves all my problems." I grin, taking another pull.

Sin pauses, taking in my words, possibly adopting my life motto.

"Fuck it. Hand one here. Cherry me, yeah? And don't tell a soul."

I smirk, "Gowan girl. There you go."

After our smoke session, I feel slightly intoxicated as I had the strongest blunt in there, around 4 grams packed in one. I only gave Sin 1.5 as he's driving, and his eyes seem a little too red.

"If you crash our car, Ill kill you." I laugh, as he begins to drive back.

He glances at me, "We'll already be dead, dipshit. Hahha. Dead dipshit. That rhymes! That rhymes, Lina, I live rhyme, do you live rhyme?"

"If you mean love, then yes. I am a songwriter."

"Your somgs are great. Fuckjbg freat."

"Are you stoned from one spliff? That's bad mate. Watch the road!"

"Sorry mum. Ha. I called you mum. Now you gotsa call me da-" He pauses, sobriety temporarily making him gulp back his words and focus on the road.

When we get back to the hotel, I make the somehow stoned Sin take a bottle of water from a vending machine before he gets back in the car.

"Sometimes I wish it was innthis versw, not a multiverse."

"What?" I ask him, laughing at his nonsical talking.

He shrugs, leaning back and drinking his water. "We should meet soon. Not to plan a wedding, just to meet. As friends."

"I'd like that."

"You responded quickly."

"Maybe I'll pass."

He smiles, crunching the empty water bottle in his hand. "I'm sober now. We will look at another location another day, although I think the Estate today is one for them."

"Yeah, me too."

"Now to go home and sleep with Daisy."

"You don't-" I begin to offer, but clamp my mouth shut. Is it really a good idea spending the whole day with him?

"We could go to Rhiannon's? Little Marie would love to see us both."

I bite my lip, thinking. "Fuck it. Let's go."

****
Sin was right.

Marie clambers over us, engulfing us in the tightest hug her little arms could possibly do. "Uncle Sin, Auntie Cat-Cat!"

"It's nice to see you guys." Brandon says, grinning from ear to ear.

Rhiannon nods. "Yeah, it's great. Together again, the gang. Omg! I have an idea."

"No." Sin, Brandon and I say in unison.

Rhi crosses her arms, taking her daughter away from us. "Marie doesn't need your negativity. Trust me guys, my idea is amazing. We should call Arianna and Jagger! The whole gang, together again.."

"Okay, I take side with my wife."

"I take side with them too, Catalina. I miss everyone."

"Fuck it. Me too." I admit, realising I miss my friends more than I expected.

"Fuck it."

Rhiannon glares at me as her daughter repeats what I say.

Shit.

"Let's text them." Sin changes the subject for my behalf.

Once we've checked that they are available, we set up a teams meeting right away. Marie decides Sin is her favourite for the day and takes a seat on his lap, however orders him to sit beside me as she loves me so very much. She whispers in our ears how she wishes we were her parents and we both laugh, knowing Rhiannon and Brandon would die if they found out.

Arianna is the first to answer.

"Oh my fucking god. Your all there. Your all there! Hi little Marie baby, you won't remember me, will you? Hey Rhi and Brandon, how's the engaged life going? Cat, you look sexy as ever. Sin, congrats on the Arena,  Jagger won't shut up about it! Wait, you two are in the same room? Have you had sex yet? Wait Marie don't repeat that word. Oh my god, I miss all of you babes so much!"

"Jagger? Do you guys see each other much?" Sin asks, leaning forward, his eyes lighting up after his childhood best friend was mentioned.

Arianna nods. "Are you kidding? He never leaves me alone. He's hiding behind my laptop now. Come out, Jagger, they won't find it funny babe."

Jagger jumps out, waving. "All of you."

"Mate! I miss you so much, when are you coming back?"

"We are gonna visit soon, aren't we Anna? We've been discussing it for ages."

"When the semester is over, I'm coming." Anna confidently confirms, which is when I notice the tinge of an American accent lacing itself in her voice.

The group of us talk for hours and although I act like I'm not that bothered, it was amazing. It's funny, I always thought about coming back here and the group of us being together, but it petrified me as I presumed it would be an awkward, exasperating event.

This moment, however, has made it transparent that these are the people I need.

They are where I belong.
