8 months later
*Adelyne*

It had months on the road. We had been on the road for months constantly moving. It became tiring sometimes and there were nights where it was freezing. I thought about Katie a lot. I missed her everyday and with Lori being close to having the baby it made me miss being pregnant with Katie. Some nights I would dream that  I  was holding her or playing with her hair as I often did. My dreams were the only place I could truly escape to a happy place. It wasn't always like that though. I did have the days where I had nightmares and seen her die. Think I would be over it by now right? No, I could never be over it.  I just had to accept what is. We pulled up to a house and Rick, Daryl, Tdog, Carl and I all made a sweep of the house. When it was clear we all sat down in the living room. We were all silent, Daryl had shot an owl and was in the process of going to eat it. Maggie and Glenn were sharing the rest of us just sat. The silence fell over us. No one was talking no one had really been talking to Rick. I did and Daryl did as well, they had grown closer than I had ever seen the two of them. It was like Daryl was Ricks right hand man. We were sitting basically relaxing and catching our breath. Beth gave me some crackers and I gratefully ate them. It was all silent until TDog made a noise and we all seen walkers. Quickly we all got up and made our way to the vehicles and I hopped on the motorcycle holding onto Daryl and we all left the little house.

We all stopped on an open road and got out except for Lori she stayed in the car. All this moving wasn't good for her and she needed to be off her feet at least for a little bit. I got out and went up to everyone who laid a map over the hood on the car while Beth and Carl kept watch for us.

"When this heard meets up with us we'll be cut off. We'll never make it south"

I leaned against the hood. Looking at the map examining all the places we had marked were walkers had been.

"What did you say it's about a hundred fifty head?" I asked looking at Glenn.

"That was last week could be twice that by now" he explained.

I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I felt Daryl behind me and his hand was on my back and he was slowly stroking me I glanced back at him and smiled slightly and then turned my attention back to what was going on. Hershel pointed to a spot on the map.

"This river could have delayed them,-"

"But if this group draws with that way they could spill out this way" Tdog told him.

"So we're blocked" Daryl added making all of us look at him.

We talked about what to do and decided we'd move soon but everyone wanted to fill their water. Daryl suggested a hunt and I was going to go with him and Rick since I was the only one who had another crossbow which was quieter than Ricks gun.  We were all walking and I was scanning for something to catch and making sure we were all okay. Daryl would glance at me occasionally and I didn't even have to look at him to know. I could feel his eyes on me and in a way it was nice feeling I knew he cared. We came onto tracks and then seen over a river there was a prison. I hit Rick in the chest and he looked down at me and I smiled and so did he getting the exact same idea. I looked to Daryl and he nodded with a smile as well.

We cut a hole it the fence and all went through. Daryl ushered me in quickly and we all started to run to the shut gate and the courtyard had walkers wandering through it. We all looked at Rick for what to do,

"It's perfect, if we can shut that gate, prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We'll take the field by tonight"

"But how do we shut the gate?" I asked looking at him.

"I'll do it you guys cover me" Glenn volunteered.

Maggie shook her head.

"No suicide run"

I bit my lip.

"I'm faster than Glenn I can do it no problem" I explained to everyone.

Daryl took my arm and looked at me shaking his head and I looked to Rick and he had the same damn look as Daryl. Well so much for that idea.

"That's why I should go" Glenn explained. "Next to Adelyne I'm the fastest."

Rick shook his head.

"No, you, Maggie, and Beth draw as many as you can over there. Pop 'em through the fence. Daryl and Adelyne go back to the main tower. Carol you've become a pretty good shot. Take your time we don't have a lot of ammo to waste. Hershel, Carl take this tower, I'll run for the gate" he explained.

We all nodded and walked to where we were suppose to go. Daryl and I got up to the tower and I positioned my gun and he looked at me.

"Ready?" he asked.

I glanced at him.

"I have to be right?"

We all waited and then we seen Lori open the gate and Rick started to run we all started to shoot and Maggie, Lori, Beth, and Glenn all made noise drawing some of them to the fence killing them. Shots rang out one by one sometimes both at the same time. We all watched and then Daryl shot my crossbow and an arrow went through the head off a walker in front of Rick. What the hell babe? you have your own crossbow. Rick opened ran and got the gate closed then went into the guard tower. I looked at Daryl and smiled.

"He did it."

"Light it up!" Daryl yelled giving them a signal and we all became shooting taking down the rest of the walkers after they were all dead I looked at Daryl and he hugged me tight. We were going to live here this was our home.

*Daryl*

We had stationed look outs and I decided to take the first shift. It gave me some time to think and just be alone with my thoughts and mostly think about my girl. I glanced back and seen Adelyne leaning into Carl giggling about something and then whisper to Lori as the rest of the group sat around the fire. Except Rick  he was patrolling the perimeter looking for anything that could be missed and access into the yard. He had passed me twice already he was avoiding the group mostly Lori who was pregnant with a little Shane. My thoughts drifted back to Adelyne, when the farm got over run I really thought I would never see her again. I already lost Katie I didn't want to lose her to she was the best thing that ever happened to me. Before Adelyne I never really did much but drift around with Merle back in Atlanta. But Merle was gone and she was here and she let me be somebody. She loved me, forgave me for all the times I screwed up when she shouldn't have, she made me a better man. I found my own voice instead of going along with Merle. I was my own person and I loved her for that. I heard struggling from behind me and looked to see Adelyne climbing up holding a bowl. I reached my hand down and pulled her up with me and she smiled.

"Here it's not much  but you should eat" she told me.

"Guess little Shane over there has got quiet the appetite" I mumbled.

She hit me in the chest causing me to grunt.

"Hey don't be mean. That's my little brother or sister in there. And my Dad is a good leader he got us this far. Shane could never have done this" she explained.

I nodded, she wasn't wrong. I don't believe for a second Shane could've got us to were we are right now. All the credit mostly goes to Rick he's a good leader and we have grown to be well...friends. I watched Adelyne bend forward and stretch out her arms and neck.

"What's the matter?" I asked.

Adelyne sighed.

"Nothing just a little sore that's all"

I chuckled.

"I can think of something that can leave you sore and very satisfied" I told her with a grin.

Adelyne's mouth dropped open and she hit me playfully.

"Daryl!" she said in a yelling whisper.

"Oh you love it. Hush your mouth"

she rolled her eyes at me and crossed her arms over her chest.

"Shut up."

I started to get off the bus and she followed.

"I'll go down first"

"Even better" she told me.

I glanced back at her and chuckled.

"Stop it."

I got down and helped her down and we walked up to the group hand in hand.

I was standing with Carol while the rest if the group sat around the group. It was all silent and Adelyne was laying down with her head in Carl's lap and he was messing with her hair. They were so cute and she loved him so much. I was glad she had him even though she didn't have Katie anymore may she rest in peace she at least had Carl. I knew she cared about him and he cared about her too. Beth had just finished singing a really pretty song when Rick came walking up to all of us.

"Better all turn in" Rick said.

Adelyne sat up and looked at Rick and he  rubbed her shoulder and looked at all of us.

"I'll take watch over there. Got a big day tomorrow."

"What do you mean?" Glenn asked.

I knew exactly where he was headed with this. Rick looked at all of us,

"Look I know we're all exhausted. This was great win. But we've got to push just a little bit more. Most of the walkers are dressed as  guards and prisoners. Looks like this place fell pretty early, could mean the supplies are still in tact.  They'd have an infirmary, commissary."

"An armory?" I asked.

"That would be outside the prison itself, but not to far away. Warden's offices would have info on the location. Weapons, food, medicine. This place could be a gold mine" Rick explained.

"We're dangerously low on ammo. we'd run out before we make a dent" Hershel said.

"That's why we have to go in there. Hand to hand. After all we've been through, we can handle it, I know it. These assholes don't stand a chance."

Rick got up and was followed by Lori. Adelyne looked up,

"You okay mom?" she asked.

Lori nodded.

"Yeah I'm okay just got to talk to your Dad for a minute" and she walked away.

*Adelyne*

I ran a hand through my hair as I stood with Maggie, Daryl, Glenn, Rick, and TDog. we were about to push into the prison and I was going with them. I took my crossbow making Daryl use his own for a change. I missed mine, my pretty baby...wow I'm pathetic. We opened up the gate and stayed in a tight formation I was in between Glenn and Maggie. We started killing walkers staying together,

"Daryl" I head Rick say.

We kept moving slowly and I ran killing walker and then jumped back into formation with them.

"Get tight! Get tight!" Glenn yelled.

We made our way to another gate and seen that it was open we all pressed against the wall looking. Daryl eased up and shot a walker but it bounced off his helmet and we knew it was time to go in there and fight. I took down a walker digging my knife into its' skull.

"Daryl!" I heard Rick yell.

I kicked a walker through the open fence and slammed the gate shut using the hooks. As soon as we knew the walkers were contained we looked around.

"It looks secure" Glenn said.

"Not from the look of that courtyard over there" Daryl pointed to a walker. "And that's a civilian."

"If there's wall down what are we going to do? we can't rebuild this whole place" I asked looking at everyone.

"We can't risk a blind spot we have to push in" Rick told us.

We all went through the door and cleared out the cell block.

"What do you think?" Rick asked.

"Home sweet home" Glenn said helping the other carry in the stuff.

"For the time being"

"It's secure?" Carol asked.

"This cell block is" Rick told her.

"We'll sleep in the cells" Beth said.

"I found a set of keys on some guards, Daryl's got a set to"

Daryl walked along the perch.

"I ain't sleepin  in no cage. I'll take the perch."

I went up the stairs and Daryl grabbed my hand.

"Grab  a mattress and lay with me please."

I nodded and grabbed one throwing it down next to him. And he reached over and pulled me into his arms and all of us went to sleep
