Chapter seventeen

"Izuku!" Katsuki exclaimed, sitting up in his bed. Cold sweat covered his face and arms as he panted. Katsuki sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the floor. "It was just a dream, it isn't real." He repeats this to himself as he heads out of his room and towards the kitchen. "Hey dad..." He says, slowly.

"Yeah, son?" His father asks, turning to face him.

"How much longer until dinner is ready?" He stays hidden around the corner, even though his father was never a part of the abuse and actively tried to help him but this dynamic was going to take some getting used to. Being allowed to go anywhere in the house, being allowed to eat, it doesn't feel real.

"I'd say about an hour," Masaru replies, "why? Are you hungry now? I can make you a snack."

"No, it's not that," Katsuki shakes his head, though he was pretty hungry. That could wait, he had to see Izuku! "Um, I had a nightmare about Midoriya and want to go see him. I promise to be back before dinner! Can I please go check on him? I don't think I can relax until I see him in person!" Tears threatened to fall down his face as he tried to blink them away.

"Oh, of course! You don't have to ask, just let me know you're heading out!"

"Really? Thanks dad," he says, nodding. "I'll be back soon."

"Don't rush, I can always keep the food warm for us." Katsuki smiled at that comment before putting on his shoes and heading out towards the hospital.

Walking into the hospital, Katsuki heads over to the receptionist, "Excuse me, I'm looking for Izuku Midoryia's room."

"Relation to the patient?" The receptionist asks, looking up from behind his glasses. "Classmate and best friend."

"Sorry, visiting hours are over, only family members are allowed for the rest of the day."

"Please..." He mutters, the word feeling foreign on his tongue. "Can you call up to his room and see if he's ok with me coming up? It would only be for a few minutes, I just need to see him."

The receptionist sighs, "fine." He watches as he dials a few numbers on the phone before putting it to her ear. "Hello dr. Bill, can you please let Izuku Midoryia know that I have someone here requesting to visit him?" Katsuki puts his hands in his pockets and waits as the receptionist waits for an answer.

"Alright, thank you." He says, putting the phone down. "You're in luck, Mr. Midoriya says you're always aloud up no matter what time it is. He's in room 305 on the third floor."

Katsuki's eyes light up, "Thank you," he says, before heading to the elevators. He hesitates outside Izuku's door before knocking.

"Come in," Izuku says, excitement in his tone.

Katsuki walks inside and immediately rushes to his side, scanning him up and down. "Deku! Oh thank god! Your voice wasn't enough, I needed to see you."

"Of course I'm ok, it'll take more than that to bring me down!"

"That's not what I meant. I had a nightmare and no matter how much I tried to convince myself it wasn't real, I still had to see you." Katsuki turns to Inko, "I needed to make sure you were ok as well."

"Katsuki, honey, do you need to talk about your nightmare?" Inko asks, concern filling her face.

Katsuki looks down, "I had a nightmare that my mother had gotten into the room and killed both you and Deku because I was weak. I know it wasn't real but I felt myself going into a panic attack and nothing else was going to calm me down." He sits down on the edge of Izuku's bed, "I'm sorry for showing up unannounced."

Izuku scooted closer to Katsuki and leaned his head on him. "Kacchan," he says, smiling a little. "You can show up whenever you want. I wanted to check on you so bad today but my mom wanted to let you process everything first. It made me so happy when they said you were here to visit."

"Katsuki, you don't have to worry about your mother going rogue, the police will catch her. Don't worry, just live your life the best you can and know we're always here for you." Inko says, softly.

"Thanks," Katsuki nods. "I do gotta go though, I'm pretty sure dad is going to finish dinner shortly. You get discharged tomorrow, right?" He asks, Izuku.

"Yeah, I'll be home by tomorrow afternoon and will be back at school the following day."

"I'll see you tomorrow after school then." Katsuki stands up and heads out of the room, glancing back at Izuku and Inko as he closes the door, heading back home.

"I'm so happy for Kacchan," Midoryia says, turning to face his mother. "I hope he can heal from everything. All I want is for him to be happy." Inko smiles at her son and goes back to her book to help pass the time.

Katsuki walks inside the house and walks into the kitchen, "hey dad, I'm back."

"Hey, just in time. Dinner just finished." Marsaru says, putting dinner on some plates for him and Katsuki. He gets some silverware and cups to put on the table. His dad gets some juice for them and sits down. Katsuki sat down across from his dad and stared at his plate, fork in hand. It's weird, he's hungry, but it feels weird to be allowed to eat at home. Marsaru eats quietly, not wanting to push Katsuki. "So, how was your visit with Midoryia? Is he doing ok?"

"It was fine," Katsuki shrugs, "and yeah, he's doing fine. He'lll be discharged tomorrow."

Marsaru nods, "that's good. Are you enjoying school?"

"Oh, um." Katsuki pauses, this question catches him off guard. School is better when Midoriya is there. "Yeah, it's nice." he however doesn't mention how tough it is with the loud noises and all the kids possibly talking about him. He's never been the other guy.

"You can talk to me whenever you need to about anything, I'm here for you."

"Thanks dad," Katsuki says, finally taking a bite of food. After the two of them finish dinner, Katsuki heads up to his room to lay down. He needed to get through tomorrow without Midoriya, could he do it? Midoriya is basically his life line at this point. Laying down on his bed, he gets under the covers, deciding it's time for bed.

Kirishima groans as he opens his eyes and looks around the room he shares with Sero and Mina. Sero was reading a book and Mina was laying down, staring at the ceiling. "Mina? Is everything ok?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, it's fine." She replies, waving him off.

"Mina, I know that you're lying. We've been friends since middle school."

"I'm just thinking, ok? I'm still trying to figure out which student had a panic attack in Present Mic's class."

"Are you seriously still on that? You have to let that go! That shouldn't be what you're thinking about."

"You and Jiro need to lighten up, I'm not going after them, I just want the gossip."

"You need help," he grumbles.

Mina shakes her head, letting her mind wander to that day, trying to figure out who mi8ght have been acting weird.

Shoto had just ended a quick phone call with Midoryia. He wanted to talk with him longer but it wasn't safe with his dad around. He groaned as he got out of bed, the bruises on his side from training with his dad earlier hurt like a motherfucker but the pain will go away soon, he's pretty much used to it by now. He made his way to the kitchen for dinner where his brother and sister were waiting on him.

Natsuo frowned when he saw how slow Shoto was walking, "did dad go too hard on the training again?" Shoto just nods, even around his family, he's pretty quiet and reserved.

"Let me get you an ice pack," Fuyumi says, jumping into action.

"I'm ok, if I really need to, I can create my own ice pack. Don't worry about me, I can handle anything he throws my way." He says, addressing both of them.

"Oh? Do I need to go harder on you in training then? I don't want you getting comfortable, you have to be the best, no matter what."

"Fuck," he mutters, turning to face his father, "I'm not getting comfortable with the routine, there's no need to change it up."

Enji narrows his eyes at Shoto, "I'll decide that for myself during your nightly training after dinner."

"Yes father," Shoto says, sitting down at the table between his two siblings. The four of them ate dinner in silence, their family dynamic isn't great. As Shoto ate, he couldn't get Midoriya off his mind. His perfect green hair or his beautiful eyes, it gave him a feeling he doesn't understand.

After dinner, he met his father in the training room and got ready for three consecutive, tortuous hours. Enji walked in, a glare on his face as he sent fire towards Shoto, without saying a word, signifying the start of training. Shoto managed to dodge at the last second, not wanting another mark to match his face. The fact that his father didn't say anything before starting means he's in a bad mood which will make it so much worse for Shoto tonight. He dodged attack after attack, throwing his ice towards his father, refusing to use his fire.

Once training was finally over, Shoto retreated to his room for the rest of the night. Unfortunately, a few of his father's attacks did manage to hit him but thankfully they were able to be covered up for the most part. Shoto nursed some of the burns with his ice before settling into bed, exhausted, just like he is every day.
