Chapter four
Candy is an OC of CaramelHugs that they're letting me use for this story. If anyone wants to make a cover for this story, I'll glady accept, also sorry for the late update!
Months later, Midoryia met All Might on a roof, a roof he was contemplating jumping off of, per what Bakugo told him to do just a few months ago. After Bakugo told him to take the swan dive off the roof, he fell into a major depression. His only friend since they were three told him to kill himself! He started self-harming, mostly cutting, trying to keep himself from jumping. He didn't do it often, just whenever he remembered what Bakugo said to him that day, the day Bakugo stopped talking to him unless he was making fun of Midoryia, which he did constantly.
After saving Bakugo from the jelly monster, getting yelled at by Bakugo, he started to go deeper into the black hole he was stuck in, he got All Might's quirk and trained endlessly throughout the summer, which was a good and bad thing. Good because he didn't have time to even think about self-harming since his mind was constantly busy, bad because he was barely eating or sleeping, he wasn't really even living! No one knew of his struggles though, he didn't want to burden anyone with his problems.
Bakugo stayed at his house all summer, training. His mom didn't want him to leave the house, apparently outside provided too many distractions. He constantly thought about Midoriya and wondered what he was up to. The one time he did go outside, he was running errands for his mom, he had been attacked by some kind of jelly monster. Midoryia saved him and Bakugo desperately wanted to thank him but he couldn't, if his mom found out, she'd kill Midoryia, and he knew she'd find out one way or another. He studied and trained as much as possible over the summer, he had to get into U.A. He already got in tremendous amounts of trouble for getting caught by the jelly monster, and if he didn't make it into U.A. he would be kicked out of the house.
Both of the boys went through the U.A. entrance exam and passed. Bakugo was confused when he saw Midoryia in the exam since he'd known Midoryia to be quirkless. He raised hell when he asked Midoryia about it because well that's who he is now, he can't be friends with Midoryia anymore, he has to make Midoyia hate him, he's hoping he already has, it'll make saving him that much easier. He's just glad that Midoyia didn't listen to what he told him to do that day in middle school, if Midoryia had jumped, he would never forgive himself.
It was the first day of U.A. Midoryia left his house with no breakfast, not saying a word to his mother, but unfortunately this was something that's been happening since his last year of middle school. Inko doesn't know what happened but she knows it has to do with Bakugo, Midoryia hasn't spoken a word about him since the last time they hung out. Inko worried for Midoryia and Bakugo too, she really didn't know what to do.
Midoryia made his way to school, never looking up from the ground, it was all he could do to hide his facial expressions, the fear that Bakugo was in his class, and the fear that Bakugo would hate him for having a quirk now, well hate him even more than he already did. He got to U.A. and bumped into the same girl he saved in the entrance exam, "S-sorry..." He mutters, helping her up.
"No, no it's fine, I should watch where I'm going, I'm Ochaco Ururaka, what's your name?"
"Izuku Midoryia," he says, walking towards his classroom.
"O-oh, it was uh, nice meeting you!" She yells after him. Midoryia just kept walking, not looking back.
Bakugo watched this interaction from afar with confusion written all over his face, why would Deku act like that? Dekus' never that cold to anyone! He had to figure out what was wrong, but could he do that without his mom finding out, while also keeping this act up? He couldn't let the soft side of him show, he didn't want to seem weak in front of the other students! He decided to follow Deku, hoping they had the same class together. He wanted to observe Deku's unusual behavior and wanted to observe his quirk. He wasn't sure how Deku was able to acquire a quirk since he was supposed to be quirkless.
He followed Midoriya from afar, not getting too close to him. Pulling out his own schedule, he saw he was in class 1-A with Mr. Aizawa. He continued to follow Midoriya, risking being late if they weren't in the same class to see if he could figure out why Midoriya was acting the way he was, had he changed that much since they last talked? He watched as Midoriya entered class 1-A, thankful that they were in the same class, decided to enter as well, remembering to play the part, he looked at Midoriya, "how the hell is a quirkless nerd like you in this class? Let alone at this school! It must not be hard to get into this school if they're letting just anyone in here!"
"Bakugo..." Midoryia mutters, looking up, "I suggest you shut up."
Bakugo blinked, taken aback by the fact that he used his name instead of his nickname, not letting anyone see his surprise, "why should I? A quirkless nerd like you won't be able to do anything about it," Bakugo scoffs.
Midoryia looks up at him, a shadow covering his eyes, "I said shut up, you know nothing about me anymore!" He shouts, tears filling his eyes."I hate you for everything you've done to me since that day!"
"That's enough! Don't start fighting on the first day!" Aizawa hisses, walking into the classroom, "both of you, take your seats."
Both the boys take their seats, Midoryia laid his head down on his desk, already dreading the school year while Bakugo stared out the window, tears threatening to roll down his face, Midoryia hates him? He understands why Midoryia hates him, he expected him too even, but it still hurts to hear him say it. Soon others started to file into the classroom, Kirishima and Mina walked in, talking and laughing, Denki, Sero, and Jiro behind them. Kirishima set his sights on the blond that was staring out the window, he was taken aback by the blond's good looks. Denki stopped laughing at the joke Sero just made and looked at Kirishima, confused at what he was looking at, "hey man, you good?" He asks, putting a hand on Kiri's shoulder.
"Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine, why?" Kiri asks, slowly tearing his eyes away from the blond boy.
"You just seem spacey is all," Denki shrugs.
"I'm fine," Kiri says, smiling as he takes his seat, Denki sitting beside him. Kiri tried not to be so obvious as he stared at the ash-blond, looking away every now and then. Sero sat in the seat behind Kirishima, looking over at the boy sitting beside him. He had pink hair with hints of green, yellow, and blue scattered around. What stood out to Sero though, was the fact that one of his eyes is a dark blue while the other is a caramel orange. Sero was in awe of his beauty but decided it was best not to stare since he didn't want it to be awkward.
Iida and Uraraka walk in together, Todorokie following close behind. Iida and Ururaka sat beside each other while Todorokie made his way to the back until his gaze fell on a green haired broccoli boy. He ended up sitting beside him instead of in the back like he had planned, it was like he was drawn to the boy. The other students also started to file in, Ojiro and Hagakure sat together, Momo sat on the other side of Todorokie, Aoyama sat next to Tokoyami, Mina sat next to Jiro, Tsu sat next to Koda, and Shoji sat next to Sato.
Once everyone was seated, Aizawa looked at the class, "Ok class, I had something planned for today but something came up so we'll do it tomorrow, just take today as a free day and get to know each other, I have somewhere I need to be," he sighs, heading out of the classroom.
The class immediately erupts into chatter as they talk to each other. Kirishima tried to start a conversation with Bakugo, only learning his name before he was ignored by the blond. Seeing that this saddened Kiri, Denki decided to start up a conversation with him, not wanting to see him sad. As the two talked Kirishima started to brighten up a little bit, causing Denki to smile glad his friend was starting to feel better.
Todorkie tried to start a conversation with the green haired boy he was sitting beside only to get short responses, like the green haired boy didn't really want to be bothered. "So, Midoryia, why do you want to be a hero?" He asks, curiously, he just hoped this didn't get back to Endeavor, if Endeavor found out he was trying to make friends, he'd surely be taken out of the school.
"Well you see, I've always admired All Might and wanted to save people with a smile on my face, like he does, but all that changed, now I want to be a hero to prove that I can do it, no matter what anyone says!" He exclaims, his old personality coming to light.
"Why would anyone say you couldn't be a hero?" Todorokie asks, curiously.
"Oh! No reason!" Midoryia says, nervously.
"Ok then..." He mutters, only for his attention to be pulled to the blond as he speaks out.
"It's because he's quirkless." Bakugo says, turning to face the others, causing them to gasp at the news.
"You're quirkless?" Ayomoa asks, putting his conversation with Tokoyami on hold for a minute.
"Uh, I was but a quirk randomly manifested in me over the summer." Midoryia explains, glaring at Bakugo. "Anyways, I can tell y'all about it later, right now I need to talk to Bakugo." Looking at Bakugo, Midoryia motions for them to head outside, Bakugo who wasn't really worried but who feels bad for what he says, meets Midoriya outside. Midoriya, who was pissed, shoves Bakugo up against the wall, "how could you? I didn't want them knowing about my past! After everything that's happened since the last year of middle school, after you told me to jump off the roof!" He whispers the last part, "how could you tell them that I used to be quirkless? Why do you hate me, Katsuki, why?" He asks, tears falling down his face, as he steps away, letting Bakugo fall to the floor.
"Izuku..." Bakugo whispers, standing up, "I wish I could tell you the reason but I can't...not yet, give me time to escape my mother and I'll explain every time but please believe me when I tell you, I don't mean anything that I've told you in the past, and I don't mean anything that I say to you in the future."
Midoryia was taken aback by this, was his mother the reason he's started acting the way he did? Shaking his head, he knew that was no excuse, even if he knows how bad Bakugo has it at home, "Kacchan..." Midoryia says, missing how the nickname for his ex friend felt on his tongue, "I'm sorry that you have to live with that whore of a mother but that doesn't excuse from acting the way you did, your mother doesn't know how you act at school!" He runs a hand through his hair, sighing, "I shared so much with you, mom even packed you lunch every day! Then you go and ruin it! All because you're scared of your mother even though mom has offered to let you stay with us and try to get cause your mom to lose custody of you so you can just live with your dad! You have options Kacchan, and even if I hate you, I still want to help you, because that's what heroes do!" Midoryia was crying now as he laid his head on Bakugo's chest, hugging him tightly. He cared deeply for the blond and didn't want to see him hurt.
Bakugo didn't know what to think, Midoryia was most likely just letting out all his pent up anger but he still felt bad for everythings that's happened. "Deku, I'm sorry, I just don't know what to do. I still love my mother even if she does what she does, I don't want to love her but I do, and I have hope that when I become the number one hero, that she'll change and love me! Maybe I'm just not good enough yet..." Bakugo trails off, looking down.
"Kacchan, I hate to tell you this but your mother isn't going to change when you become the number two hero, she'll probably just try to gaslight you into giving her money."
Bakugo ignored the comment about the number two hero and sighed, "you don't know that. Anyways, back on the topic before, are we still playing redemption?"
Midoryia smiles, "if you can promise that you won't go too far again, I would love to continue playing."
"Bakugo smiles, "don't worry, I won't go too far again, I just got scared of my mom, she told me if I didn't stay away from you, she was going to kill you, and at the time I didn't know you had a quirk so I stayed away but after calling you quirkless and finding out that you actually do have a quirk, I feel you could hold your own against my mother."
"Kacchan...I'm sorry, I didn't know that your mother threatened me to make you stay away from me, I feel bad for acting the way I have, all year."
"Don't feel bad, you have nothing to feel bad for, you have every right to feel the way you do."
Midoryia nods, "come on, let's get back in there before they burst out here and figure out our ruse," he smiles.
Bakugo chuckles and opens the door, yelling about how Midoryia was a damn nerd who doesn't deserve a quirk as he heads back inside. Midoryia, who was playing along, clenched his fists and sat at his desk, rolling his eyes.
"Are you ok? Do I need to teach him a lesson?" Todoroki asks.
"No, everythings fine," Midoryia reassures him.
"Shitty hair," Bakugo says, looking up, "you can have that conversation you wanted earlier."
Kirishima's eyes lit up as he quickly finished his conversation with Karminari, turning to Bakugo to start a conversation about random things.
