Chapter 18
Katsuki woke up with an alarm without getting yelled at for the first time in years. Sitting up in bed, he looked around the room, half expecting his mother to pop up somewhere and punish him, even if he knew it wasn't possible. She'd be stupid to come back here, unfortunately though, that thought doesn't make the anxiety go away. What if she tries something after he leaves the house? Katsuki sighs, hating these thoughts, they tend to stop him from doing anything productive.
"Katsuki, are you awake?" His dad asks, knocking softly.
"Yeah, I'm coming," he replies, dragging himself out of bed.
"No rush, I just wanted to make sure you're awake. I'm making breakfast."
Katsuki lets a small smile slip from his face before responding, "sounds good, I'll be down in a few." He gets up out of bed and gets ready for the day. Honestly, he wanted school to go by faster than normal today so that he can hurry up and see Midoriya. Heading downstairs, he walks into the kitchen and sits down at the table. "I stayed up too late," he grumbles.
"That sucks," his dad replies, turning around. "Will you be ok today?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine," He nods.
Marsaru sets both plates on the table and sits down across from him. "Are you going to be ok today? I know a lot has happened over the past couple of days."
"Yeah, I'll be fine. As long as I get to see Midoriya later."
"I have a feeling you will."
School is halfway over now and it feels like the clock is ticking ever so slowly. At lunch time, he sits with Karminari, Jiro, and Candy. Karminari keeps conversation flowing even without the other three here. Maybe he should visit the other three? He doesn't know them very well but he has been eating lunch with them. Katsuki's thoughts trail away from the conversation they were having. Will Midoryia want to quit playing this stupid game they're in? As he got older, he started to realize how stupid this game is, however; it's basically become his whole personality. Will he even be able to function like a normal friend? All he knows is bullying Midoriya and if he stops that, will Midoryia stop being friends with him? Maybe it's best to leave things the way they are... Hopefully, this won't backfire on him.
Izuku and his mother had checked out of the hospital and were on their way home. Izuku was ecstatic to finally be out of the hospital. "I can't wait to see Kacchan again without having to sneak around, this will be great!"
"I agree, but don't forget, Katsuki is going through a lot right now and he'll need a friend as well as space. I've been texting with his father and he informed me that even with Mitsuki out of the equation, he's still hesitant to do things because he's dealt with her for so long, so just make sure to give him grace," Inko says, as she turns onto the street that leads to their house.
"I know mom, I got it, thanks!" Izuku replies, basically bouncing in his seat. Katsuki would be home in about three hours which gives Izuku plenty of time to get settled back in beforehand. "It sucks that the other three can't leave for a few more days but thankfully, everything will be back to normal tomorrow!
Izuku sat down on the couch beside his mother and stretched out, enjoying the comfort of being in his own home again. "It's nice to be home again," he mutters, yawning. "That hospital bed was impossible to sleep in, so I'm going to take a nap."
After school let out, Karminari and Candy made their way to the hospital to see Kirishima and Sero. Jiro didn't feel like joining in with the way Mina was acting yesterday. That girl had a serious problem. "I feel kinda bad for Mina, she's closer to Jiro than she is with us."
"Don't feel bad for her," Candy scoffs, actions have consequences. She wasn't very nice to Jiro the other day."
"I know," he agrees, walking into the hospital. "Still though, Mina's probably lonely being stuck with two guys 24/7." Candy chuckles as they reach the room they need and knock.
"Come in," Sero answers. The two of them walked into the room and shut the door behind him.
"Hey," Candy says, walking over to sit down beside his bed. "Are you feeling any better?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty much good to go now, the doctors said if everything is good by morning, we can all get released tomorrow instead of Friday, which would be nice. It's so stuffy here."
"Hell yeah, that's awesome!" Karminari exclaims, poking Kirishima in the side until he wakes up.
"What are you doing to poor Kiri?" Sero asks, bewildered.
"Trying to wake him up obviously, I'm bored." He replies like this is a normal occurrence.
"He hasn't been asleep that long." Mina points out.
"Then waking him really shouldn't be this hard," Karminari grumbles, poking him harder. "It's not like his quirk is activated, his body is too squishy."
"So, do y'all want to do something once y'all get released?" Candy asks, hopefully.
"I'd be down," Sero nods and Mina chimes in her agreement as well. Candy scowled a little at Mina's response but did his best to hide it.
"Great!" Candy replies, smiling softly at Sero.
"What did you have in mind?" Sero asks, curiously.
"Not sure, whatever y'all feel up to doing I guess. We don't want to push y'all too hard."
"Alrighty then, how about after we get released, we make plans."
Everyone nodded in agreement just as Kirishima finally started to wake up. "Ugh, what the hell man?" He groans out, sitting up and moving to lean up against the head of the bed.
"I wanted to see you before we had to leave but you were asleep," Karminari pouts. "I missed one of my best friends!"
"Waking someone up over something so trivial is so not manly!" Kirishima protested.
"Trivial..." Karminari mutters to himself, "yeah you're right, this is in fact a trivial matter, I'm sorry dude. I'll head out so you can go back to sleep and maybe I'll see you tomorrow." Before Kirishima could protest, Karminai was out the door and halfway down the hall.
"I don't even know who was in the wrong here," Mina says, frowning.
"I think Kariminari was in the wrong 95% and Kirishima was in the wrong 5% for the one comment about the situation being trivial to be honest." Sero chimes in.
"While that comment might have been slightly insensitive, Kirishima had every right to be upset with Karminari." Candy points out.
"Guys, I'm right here y'know." Kirishima grumbles. "I didn't mean to make him leave, I was just annoyed about getting woken up. Do you think he got upset?"
"I think he did," Mina nods, "he just didn't want to admit it. Although, he isn't great at hiding it."
"I hope he's going to be ok," Kiri sighs, laying back down.
"Before you go back to sleep, we were talking about hanging out after we finally get discharged, you wanna join?" Sero asks, hopefully.
"Sure," Kiri yawns, "give me more details later." That's the last thing he said before going back to sleep.
On his way home from school, thoughts ran through Katsuki's head a mile a minute. So much was changing so fast. While yes, the changes were good but it was still a lot. He felt himself slipping into a depression but why is that? Why does he feel bad for his mother? Katsuki hates her! Tears fell down his face as he approached his house. He quickly wipes his eyes, wishing he was still farther away from his house.
"Kacchan!" Izuku shouts, running over to him with a huge grin on his face. "I'm so glad you're home!"
The words that came out of Izuku's mouth sounded muffled to Katsuki as he turned to face his childhood best friend, "what do you want nerd?"
"Kacchan?" Izuku asks, frowning. "I've been meaning to tell you, I don't want to play this game anymore."
"Game?" Katsuki laughs, "you still think this is some stupid game? You're dumber than I thought. I guess calling you a 'nerd' isn't accurate, is it?" A darkness filled his eyes as his lips lifted in a smirk.
"Kacchan...Are you feeling ok?" Izuku asks, frowning. Tears pricked at his eyes, threatening to spill.
"I feel perfectly fine," he replies, walking inside his house, slamming the door shut.
Izuku blinked, "what the hell happened after he left the hospital yesterday?"
"Izuku honey," Inko pokes her head out the door, "Is Katsuki and his father joining us for dinner?"
Izuku turned around, forcing a smile on his face. "They have other plans unfortunately. Looks like it's just us two tonight."
"Alright, well dinners almost ready, come on in." Inko smiles, closing the door. Izuku took a few more minutes to himself, attempting to reign in his emotions. He can't slip into another depression. He has to continue to talk to his mother, he made a promise after all and he doesn't break his promises.
Heading back inside, he sits down at the table and smiles, "thanks for dinner mom, it looks really good."
"Eat up, you go back to school tomorrow." Inko says and Izuku nods as he starts to eat.
Katsuki said a quick hi to his father before shutting himself in his room. Honestly, he wasn't sure what came over him, it just slipped out. He laid down on the bed, letting the tears fall. He doesn't like being mean to Midoryia but this is what was needed. Plus, with everything going on, he didn't have time for anyone to be friends with him, too much going on in his head. So many bad thoughts; thoughts he doesn't want. "Please, somebody help me..." He whispers as he closes his eyes, falling asleep.
