The Final Chapter
Error's POV
We talked for a bit. I gave him his brush back and he used some of his green paint to heal our cuts and breaks. We learned about each other and he quickly learned the truth about the Anti Void. I wanted to beat the shit out of Fate for giving Ink a fucking warning in the form of a whisper. Ink seemed to find my anger amusing, but I could tell he was angry too. Then he dropped a bombshell. He has a soul?
I never would have guessed that Ink had a soul. Don't get me wrong, he was soulless, but something happened that caused him to regain his soul, or at least, a part of it. Let me explain. A little while after our hug, Ink took off one of his ink vials and examined it. "Catch," Ink said, tossing the vile to my outstretched hand. I looked at the vile in my hand before giving Ink a look. "Look closer," he advised. I shrugged and took the vile and held it closer to my eye. To my shock, I could see a small piece of a monster soul infused with a human trait. I almost dropped it from shock.
"WheRe the hell did you gEt this?" I demanded, tossing the vile back to Ink. Ink shrugged and placed the vial back on his sash. "I don't know, but I know they all have a piece of my soul and the pieces are all infused with human soul traits. They ooze out unlimited ink for me to use too, so I no longer have to drink them to feel anything," Ink replied, picking up his bush.
---
A few hours of doing nothing later, Ink hesitantly looked over his shoulder and into the dark abyss. "I think we should try to find a way out of here and stop our world from tearing itself apart." "That's a wOnderful idea gEnius, please lead the Way," I replied in one of my more sarcastic tones. Ink introduced his hand to his face and sighed but before he could retort, I shushed him. "Just cHoose a direction thAt feels riGht."
Ink rolled his eyes and pointed behind me. "We can try that way," he muttered. Shrugging, I turned around and walked away. Ink shook his head and followed me.
---
"You would think that we would be there yet," Ink grumbled, dragging his feet. I took a deep breath and mentally went to my happy place. "You hAve no patience," I grumbled as Ink lagged behind. Sure he was shorter but he should have a shit ton of endurance from fighting me. "You have the endurance to fIght me for hours bUt you don't have the eNdurance to walk a few mileS?" I scoffed at his weakness. Ink rolled his eyes. "I'm flattered you think I am that strong, but most of my endurance comes from adrenaline," he admitted.
A few minutes of uncomfortable silence later, Ink hesitated. I noticed his hesitation. "Are you okAy?" I asked him. He shifted his weight and tightened his grip on his brush. "I sense both Fate and Destiny nearby," he warned. I growled my opinion of that and looked around warily. Ink pointed in a direction and I gestured toward him. "Lead tHe way geNius but if we die, it's your faulT." Ink rolled his eyes but took the lead anyway.
---
Ink noticed the bright light before I did. It was quite blinding too so how I missed it is beyond me. We both looked away to prevent permanent eye damage and headed towards it. Soon, we found the source. It was Destiny and Fate, but something was wrong with Destiny. His eyes were glazed and his movements were sluggish and they seemed forced. Void and Oblivion were also there. I also noticed they were talking.
"I hope Oblivion isn't becoming rebellious," I heard Fate growl. Void shrugged. "He's acting the same. It might be because I don't force him to destroy worlds like you make Destiny do," they replied calmly. I heard Fate mutter something under their breath but due to how far we were, I couldn't make it out.
"At least Destiny is behaving now," Fate replied. "I just thought I'd warn you since they were close before they turned." Void nodded while Oblivion uneasily shifted his weight. "Thank you for your warning Fate, but Oblivion is quite loyal and I trust him with my power." "Well don't say I didn't warn you," Fate grumbled. Void shrugged again but didn't argue. Instead, he turned to his second.
"I heard rumors from the damned that croakers are infiltrating the safe areas. I need you to rectify that problem." Oblivion grinned. "Of course. Do you want me to keep an eye out for your mystery assassin?" Void snorted and rolled his eyes. "Like always." Oblivion chuckled and bowed as the shadows encased him. When he was gone, Fate turned their attention back onto Void.
"Assassin?" Fate snickered, seemingly amused that someone could outsmart Void. "He killed Nemesis," Void said seriously, which shut Fate up. Whatever it was, it frightened both of them, I could tell from their body language. Ink looked between Fate and Void with a conflicted expression.
"Are yoU okAy?" I asked Ink, who jumped slightly from my question. "Uh, Sketch is up and moving. He's fucking pissed that I regained control and that he lost to you." I narrowed my eyes at Ink's words. "Is he gOing to cause troublE?" Ink shrugged and looked back at Fate and Void with a puzzled expression. "I don't know. He wants Fate dead more than you so at this point I wanna say you're fine," Ink replied, reassuring Static, who grew nervous when he heard that the idiot was still kicking.
"Speaking of fine," Ink muttered, looking back at Fate and Void. I looked back at the primordial gods and grew worried. They were in each other's personal space and they were arguing. Even Destiny, who was under Fate's influence, backed away from the gods. Void suddenly shoved Fate out of their face.
"Back off Fate. This is my territory so watch your mouth," Void warned, which earned a growl from Fate. "Well maybe you shouldn't have put your influence in empty worlds," Fate snapped back. "Well, maybe you shouldn't have destroyed the worlds I put under my protection even though we both agreed to leave worlds alone!" Void shot back.
"They're worse than kids," Ink muttered and I snickered. "LAst I check thIs is how we would figHt," I replied, which shut Ink up fast. Meanwhile, Destiny did something unexpected. He stepped in between the fighting primordials.
"As much as I hate both of you right now, let's not make the Void more uninhabitable than it already is," Destiny managed to say before he lost control to Fate. The primordial god scowled at the demigod with disgust. "As much as I hate it, he's right," Fate admitted, backing away from Void. The dark being shook himself off.
"Before you go," the primordial grinned, meeting my gaze with a calculating expression. "I think you have company." Void let out an evil chuckle before disappearing into the shadows. Fate whirled around and looked through the darkness. I could feel Ink tense up beside me and I instinctively used my body to help him hide.
When Fate saw us, their expression went from surprised to smug. I internally groaned and prepared my magic reserves for a big fight. "Well well well," Fate grinned and I could hear the smug tone resonate. "What do we have here?" Destiny remained motionless but I could see the inner conflict.
"What dO you waNt?" I scowled, crossing my arms across my chest. Ink remained quiet behind me but I could feel his nervousness. It must be one of my old powers working up... what? Fate grinned, seemingly amused with my question. "I came down here to ask him where my two gods got to, but it looks like I no longer have too."
It looks like Fate doesn't know about other multiverses like Under!Tale. I hope Ink keeps his mouth shut. I raised both of my hands up before gesturing to my entire body. "Well, here I am biTCh. You won't tAke me witHout A figHt," I challenged. With Ink's help, we might be able to take on Fate. If Destiny gets involved, we're screwed.
"I can do whatever I want," Fate snorted, pointing their finger at me. "Seize him," Fate demanded and Destiny hesitantly took out his dual swords and leaped into the air. Using his wings, he divebombed me. I crouched and Ink used my back as a board to leap into the air and counter his attack. Destiny cried out in pain when red paint hit his chest and face. The demigod flew back, trying to wipe red paint out of his eyes but he was ultimately making it worse.
I stood up and used my strings to grab Destiny's wing and I threw him a few hundred feet back. He disappeared into the inky darkness and landed with a loud thud. I smirked at Fate's open mouth. "ARe you ready Ink?" I asked, amused. Ink grinned and coated his brush in black paint. "I'm more than ready to avenge our fallen brother," Ink growled, allowing the paint to drip off of his brush.
Myself and Fate watched in astonishment as the paint drops formed themselves into unnatural monster figures. Paint monsters. Ink looked at his army with a maniacal grin. He pointed his brush to where we last saw Destiny and the paint monsters ran to the spot. I hope Destiny will stay down long enough to take Fate out. Ink gazed at his brush in sudden sadness.
"Aww, it looks like I ran out of black paint. Remind me to restock when we get back home," I gave Ink a long look before shaking my head. Fate took that time to summon armor and create a light spear. The light being threw the spear at us but I used my strings to catch it and return it. Fate dodged the projectile and created a bunch of light shards. Ink teleported while I jumped out of the way of the falling projectiles.
I created my strings and jumped onto a gaster blaster. I tried to swing my blasters around with my strings but it looks like Fate already has that attack down. Unfortunately for Fate, they weren't looking for Ink and Ink used that as his advantage. The god used his small stature to get close enough to Fate to trip them using his brush. Seeing my chance, I blasted Fate with blasters and Ink jumped out of the way.
Me and Ink have fought for so long that we know each other's battle strategies and tactics to the point it's easy to work together. We have no plan, but we don't need one. Fate managed to dodge most of the blast but I could see their charred skin. To my dismay, Fate used light magic to heal themselves.
I exchanged a worried look with Ink. We won't win if it comes to blows. I already knew that but I was hoping that more powerful attacks would damage Fate enough to where we might be able to win. It looks like that's out now. The sound of Destiny and the paint monsters fight were slowly quieting down and that itself was not helping my already decreasing hope.
"Any ideas?" Ink hissed. Fate watched us warily but patiently waited for us. Knowing that Fate was toying with us was not helping my mentality either. "Not yEt," I whispered, creating fiery strings. Ink uneasily raised his paintbrush and waited for my attack. I took a deep breath and shot my strings at Fate. Fate saw my attack miles away and simply grabbed it.
The primordial god cried out in pain when my strings burned their hand. Using my other hand, I wrapped my strings around their body and held them in place. Ink saw his chance and coated his brush in red paint to try and inflict a more severe and long lasting injury, but that's where the tides changed.
Destiny flew out of nowhere and intercepted Ink with his dual swords. I could see the demigods attack and I let Fate go to intercept Destiny's knife. The demigod let out a cry of surprise from the burn and dropped his knife, which saved Ink's life. Unfortunately, Fate used my distraction to punch me. I cried out in surprise and landed on my back.
I lost interest in Ink's and Destiny's fight and concentrated on my own problem. I kicked Fate off and jumped to my feet. Using bones, I tried to keep distance between us but Fate knocked them down. Feeling a sense of deja vu, I tried to summon gaster blasters but Fate summoned a sword and the blunt side of the blade sent me to the ground.
Fate had me pinned. They raised there sword, with the intent to strike my soul. Ink tried to fight off Destiny to get to me but the brainwashed follower had him in a corner. Fate's soulless eyes glistened evilly and with a smirk, they plunged the sword into my chest. Ink's angry cry was all I could hear. A scuffle? Then I felt something push Fate off of me and drag me out of the fight. I looked behind me, expecting to see Ink, but instead, I saw a shadowy skeleton. The only thing I could make out was his ocean blue eyes.
"Stay down Cipher," he whispered before running back into the fight. I managed to sit up and I finally got to see what managed to knock a primordial being down. It was one of Void's demons... A croaker. A mutated croaker. The demon was at least ten feet tall and maybe double that long. It had the stance of an ambush predator but with a lizards body. It's snakey neck allowed it to make quick strikes on its prey and with its three mandibles, its reach was fucking scary.
The mutated croaker pounced onto Fate's recovering body and with its mandibles, it pierced Fate's armor and caused a huge gap in the God's chest. Fate hissed in pain and tried to stab the mutated croaker but it jumped off of Fate and slashed Fates arm with a hiss, its claws covered in white blood.
'Uh, Error... That ain't a fucking mutated croaker. That's a fucking mutated stalker!' Static warned me. The fallen god paced back in forth in my head and due to our bond, I could feel his nervousness and fear. 'How did he tame it?' I heard Static mutter to himself. 'Speaking of the mortal who tamed the stalker,' Static added, taking control over my body to search for the shadowy skeleton.
And there he was, fighting Destiny with Ink. Ink coated his brush with blue paint and slashed at Destiny. The demigod noticed the strike and used his swords to block Ink's attack but that left his back open to the shadowy skeleton. Seeing his chance, the skeleton used the blunt side of his knife to knock Destiny out cold. Then he took a vial out of his pocket and forced the liquid down Destiny's throat.
Taking Destiny's and Fate's current problems to my advantage, I quickly bandaged my chest wound with my scarf. The sword barely missed my soul. Ink quickly ran over to me and offered his green vial to me. "Take it, you need to more than I do," Ink whispered. I hesitantly drank some of it and felt a warm sensation coat my wound and the pain disappeared. "That stUff is strOng," I mumbled, accepting Ink's hand and stood up. Ink grunted in agreement and turned around to watch the fight with Fate and the shadowy skeleton.
The stalker snarled and jumped back, barely missing Fate's strike. The skeleton used Fate's distraction and silently charged the primordial god. The skeleton stabbed Fates arm, forcing them to drop one of their swords. Unfortunately, the primordial managed to smack the shadow off of him and the skeleton went flying off. The stalker seemed to recognize its master predicament and caught him using its tail.
"I'm going to go help. Wait at least a minute so your wound doesn't hinder you to bad," Ink warned and coated his brush in purple paint and slashed it at Fate. The paint actually landed onto Fate's arm but they dismissed it, which was their mistake. Purple chains encased Fate's arm, leaving it up for grabs. The stalker, despite having no visible eyes, grabbed the end of the chain and pulled it with all of its might. That shockingly sent Fate flying.
To my surprise, the shadowy skeleton burst out laughing. Ink grinned and I knew I was probably doing the same. Fate, the hag that ruled everyone's lives, was just thrown a few yards by a blind demon. Fate yelled in anger and ripped the chains off of its arm as if they were paper and launched at the shadow. That's when Destiny got involved.
The rebellious demigod met Fate's swords with a clang full of sparks. "Traitor!" Fate hissed. Destiny snorted and used his other sword to impale the cavity in Fate's chest. "You've become corrupt Fate. This is for your own good." The shadowy skeleton silently crept behind Fate and made the cavity even bigger to the point where I saw something glowing. Ink coated his brush with yellow paint and slashed the hole the skeleton make the object in Fate's chest become loose. It was their soul.
'Now!' I heard Static yell. The stalker used its mandibles to drag Fate to the ground. 'They won't last much longer Error!' Static warned me. I took a deep breath and created some fiery strings and wrapped them around Fate's soul. With the rest of my strength, I yanked it out. Destiny noticed and with his other sword, he stabbed Fate's soul. After a burst of light and power, my world went dark.
---
"Fate was easier to battle than I expected," Ink admitted as he watched the shadow skeleton bandage my chest. "The idiot was on top of the world, however, they never thought to check behind them. In this case, other multiverses rebelled and Void sent destroyers and creators to different worlds in order to weaken Fate's power. Destiny and Oblivion helped where they could but Fate caught Destiny," the skeleton replied, taping the bandage on my chest. Then he offered me his hand.
"ThaNks," I muttered, accepting his help to get back onto my feet. Destiny, who's been quiet this entire time, finally spoke up. "As it is, Fate isn't dead but their form is scattered across the know omniverse. The other multiverses will have more of Fate than others I'm afraid." The skeleton snorted and walked over to his pet stalker. "Well, I hope you are a better ruler than that dickhead. As it is, they killed me once."
That sent alarm bells ringing. Everything about this skeleton was eerily familiar. "WAit!" I called out as he jumped onto the stalkers back. He turned back and cocked his head curiously. "Yeah?" He asked. "What's YouR name?" I asked. He hesitated and looked out into the Void. He smiled softly. "I think you know who I am Error."
With that, the stalker let out a challenging roar before running out of sight. Ink looked about as conflicted as I felt. Destiny chuckled. "Oh, Oblivion is going to be pissed that he missed him. I can send you back now," the demigod offered. I hesitated. "Will we bE going to mY multiVerse or a random oNe?"
Destiny shrugged and created a portal. "Home is where the heart is. You can go back to your original multiverse and stabilize the code before the multiverse collapse, or you can go to Radix's multiverse." Ink looked at me, with a sad expression on his face. "I understand if you don't want to come back Error," Ink whispered before walking into the portal.
I hesitated and felt my soul twist into a bunch of knots. I could save lives or I could go where I felt wanted. The choice was a no brainer, not to mention that the Chara's and Nightmare and co are still alive. It's my job to make sure that's how it'll remain. I nodded at Destiny before I disappeared into the bright portal.
---
Ink's face, when I landed in OuterTale, was quite priceless. Classic, however, didn't look surprised. "Nice to see you in one piece," the Sans greeted. Outer stayed quiet but watched me with no ill intentions. "Well I gOtta go destrOy an AU to stoP the domino effect," I warned. Ink sighed sadly but nodded. He knew it had to be done. Outer made a face but Classic remained neutral. 'If you don't leave now, they might change their minds,' Static warned me. I shook my head and created a portal to the code.
The code was a mangled mess. Codes were merging and colliding with some even disintegrating on impact. Ink will have to fix the codes but it looks like over half of the multiverse is destroyed. I created my strings and attacked a weak looking piece of code from a StoryShift copy. I teleported to the AU to only find dust and cracks in the world. Due to Ink not being a big concern, I was able to put most of my concentration into my work.
The AU stood no chance and it crumbled. I made a quick escape and landed in OuterTale where Ink and the others were waiting. I turned to the young god. "You gotTa repair the rest of the code. TRy to save the originalS first, not the cOpies." Ink nodded in understanding and created his own portal. Before he left, I shouted, "Don'T forget to refill yoUr black paint!" Ink chuckled and walked through the portal. That's when I heard Classic clear his throat. "Sci is creating more of that serum that unblocks our sealed memories. Do you want a vial?" I stilled at that.
"What are the side efFects?" Classic chuckled at my question. "A headache and dizziness but it fades after a few hours. You're not going to want company though. 'I'll keep my mouth shut.' I could tell my hidden memories had Static curious and he would bug me about it until I got it. "Why noT?" I shrugged. Classic nodded and handed me a vial. I pocketed it and opened up a portal to the Anti Void.
"Are you sure Error?" Classic asked. I chuckled in amusement. "I'M sure," I replied before walking into my prison. I closed my portal and looked around at my strings and dolls. For once, it was silent in here. Fate had kind of faded so their presence was here was small or nonexistent. I uncapped the vial and chugged its contents. It had a bitter taste but I was a pro with poison at this point.
I sat down once the dizziness hit me. 'This is almost as bad as a hangover,' I heard Static complain. 'ShUt up,' I growled at him and he fell silent. I laid down and closed my eyes but sleep did not come. I gave up after a while but I wasn't in the Anti Void anymore, I was in the multiverse before it fell the first time. In a grassy field on the surface. I also found that I couldn't control my movements.
"Cipher!" I looked behind me only to see ysasb behind me. His blue eyes held mirth as he tossed me one of Ink's paint vials. I snickered. "Oh no you didn't," I grinned as ysasb burst into laughter. "Oh, but I did." "YSASB I SWEAR TO VOID I WILL BREAK YOUR TIBIA IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME MY GOD DAMN PAINT VIALS BACK!" I heard Ink yell. I tossed ysasb the paint vial back and looked behind me.
"If you run now, you'll have a better chance of getting away," I teased. Ysasb paled and looked behind him before sprinting away. Right as he sprinted, Ink charged up the hill, his eyes red to warn others of his anger. "Where is he?" Ink demanded. I snickered and pointed in the last direction I saw ysasb run off to. Ink coated Broomy in purple paint before running in that direction.
"You better run pretty boy!" I heard Ink yell as he followed my directions. I could hear Static cracking up in the back of my mind. Oh, what it must have been like before Fate ruined everything.
-----
I woke up on the white floor of the Ant Void. My headache was gone but the sense of longing wasn't. I heard Static sigh. 'You may as well go check up on Nightmare and co.' Deciding that it wasn't a bad idea, I teleported to Nightmare's castle, only to find Cross on the couch, reading a book.
"CroSs?" The skeleton jumped before sending me a glare. "Why does no one knock?" Cross grumbled as he put a bookmark in his book. "How diD we all surVive the fall of the multiverse? That's a bEtter question," I replied, sitting down next to him. He snorted but before he could retort, HorRor walked in.
"Hey Cross, have you seen my-oh hey Error," he greeted, looking surprised but happy. Killer followed in behind him and eyed me warily. "I sense you're injured," the murderer muttered before walking out to go fetch the rest of the gang. Soon, everyone was in the living room, chatting and enjoying each other's company.
It took a lot of convincing to get Dream and Geno off of my ass about my injury but overall, recounting the fight was quite peaceful. "So there's a drug that will allow us to get our memories back?" Cross questioned after my explanation. I nodded and played with my scarf. "YeP. I took it and hAd to take a nap for a couple of hOurs but that's about it for thE negative effects. Talk to Classic if you want soMe," I added.
Cross nodded and relaxed. They now know about Static but they are the only ones I plan to tell besides Radix. No one needs to know that me and Ink are possessed by fallen gods. I heard Static snort before retreating back into the deepest parts of my mind. I felt myself relax as the others changed the topic. For the first time in decades, I felt like I could truly relax in my multiverse, surrounded by murders and gods. How's that for an ending?
