Decisions
Cross watched as Dust and Killer dusted another copy of UnderFell in record time. Killer looked up at Cross, his expression demanding Cross on how long it took this time. Cross sighed and checked his phones timer.
"Twenty minutes and thirty two seconds. You two beat your record by a minute."
Dust and Killer high fived each other and opened up a portal and left the AU before Cross could even follow them through. He growled with annoyance but a sudden,
"Look Out!"
From Chara pushed the death threats to the back of his mind so he could avoid the sudden paint splatter that almost killed him. Cross turned around, silently thanking Chara for their warning, and came across a monster he did not want to face alone. It was Ink and Cross knew that Error and Nightmare would not be able to suddenly appear and help him because they were both still missing. Before Nightmare disappeared, Cross remembered he was acting really strange. He was shocked when Nightmare told him that he had found out that Error was alive. But to his dismay, Nightmare never gave him a straight answer before his disappearance. Now that Ink had him pinned, Cross wished Nightmare was more specific about what he was doing. Something to do with Dream...
"Cross."
"Ink."
The two glared at each other. Neither of them said a word. Ink's paintbrush suddenly became coated in purple paint. Cross knew what purple paint could do and he pulled out his gigantic knife as Ink took a swipe at him. Cross slashed the purple paint which splashed to the side leaving Cross unscathed. Cross was about to use his turn and attack Ink when he noticed that Ink's right eye socket and skull was cracked, the normal blue eye that usually held mischief and creativity was gone. Ink's only eye that seemed to be working was his left one. The star that usually glowed with confidence and power seemed more dull to Cross then when he last saw it. Because he was so curious about why Ink was so badly injured, he used the options in the ACT menu instead of the FIGHT button. It felt wrong but Cross ignored it.
"Ink. Why do you look like you went through Hell and back and lost something on the way?"
Ink shrugged and just stood there. It was starting to creep Cross and even Chara out. After a few uncomfortable moments later, Ink finally said something.
"Have you seen Dream? He is missing."
*You choose ACT*
"No. I haven't seen Nightmare recently either. He is missing as well I guess. But seriously who did you fight?"
Ink suddenly grabbed his skull and groaned in pain. Cross lowered his defense as a reaction from his shock.
"Let's just leave Cross while we have the chance!"
Chara hissed but Cross ignored them. He sheathed his knife and went over to Ink while Chara was calling him an idiot and other words that held the same meaning. Cross roughly picked Ink up and teleported himself and Ink back to Nightmare's domain, leaving the paintbrush behind. It was the only thing the Sanses found later when they went looking for their missing creator.
Error's POV
"Well then... uh... Fuck."
I burst out in laughter at Nightmare. He always did have a way with words I'll admit.
"So yoU want a place that we won't be disturbed? Fine, let's go to my room! DreaM?"
Dream perked up and nodded in understanding. He grabbed his sibling before coming over to me. I grabbed onto Nightmare and teleported us to my room. Nightmare sat on the bed and Dream leaned against the wall, both of them looking in my direction.
"So wHat do you guys need to talk about?"
"Before we do that, let me do this."
Nightmare snapped his fingers and... nothing happened. Me and Dream looked at Nightmare with confused looks on our faces. Nightmare shrugged.
"What? This magic makes sure we get privacy but it will not last long so... Dream?"
"No. Error trusts you more than me and you were the one who said you would tell Error."
"Fine."
Nightmare grumbled and looked at me with an expression I have never seen him have before. I started to feel uneasy.
"Uhhh Error. The reason why I didn't want to ask this in front of your new friends is because they seem to care about you a lot."
"So wHat is so impOrtant that you need the utmost privacy to tell me?"
Nightmare sighed and put his hands into his pocket. An old habit he used to do if he was worried. Dream looked away, guilt on his face. Why are they so worried and guilty?
"Well... We need you to come back to our Multiverse and reclaim your Destroyer job and title. I know it's a lot to ask, especially for you. But everything is falling apart. Me and Dream took a huge gamble coming to look for you. For all we know, everything has already gone down to Hell."
"I... I..."
I hesitated. As much as I hated to kill and destroy worlds, there were parts of it I did miss. Most of it was doing shit with friends and putting monsters out of their misery if their AU was terrible. But I also missed the thrill of fighting an enemy, the rush of adrenaline, the pros of being a destroyer. Yet while I feel happy here, I miss my friends and my old lifestyle. Settling down and talking every day is not my style. So I made my choice.
"... I'll cOme baCk. I jUst need moRe time."
Nightmare and Dream looked relieved.
"That's great! But me and Dream should head back now. I can feel that our absence is speeding up the destruction of the Multiverse. It was nice to see you again."
"Yeah. It was nice to see you again Error. I am really sorry about what I have done in the past. I should have never listened to Ink."
"It's fine. ThAt's the past and tHe past is behind us. So I guess we can stArt over. Would you like to?"
I held out my hand to Dream who was still looking at me in disbelief. He gently took my hand and we shook on it.
"I never thought I would see the day you would do that Error."
I smirked at Nightmare.
"Well yOu saw it. I guess thIs is goOdbye then?"
"Yep. We will see you soon."
"Bye Error."
I stopped them before they entered the Dreamscape. They looked so confused that I almost laughed out loud.
"I stiLl can access the AntI VoId from here. Do you guys want to go that way?"
Dream looked at his brother, waiting for an answer. Nightmare shrugged.
"Why not? It'll be easier anyway."
I created a portal to the Anti Void and jumped in. Nightmare and Dream followed me.
----------
I looked around and saw nothing but a white void. Home sweet home. I created a second portal to DreamTale. I turned around and looked at the two.
"ThiS is a poRtal that leads to DreamTale. From there. yOu two can teleport back to Your own domains."
Dream nodded and jumped in but Nightmare hesitated.
"NigHtmare?"
He turned and looked at me with worry.
"I just checked out my domain and Ink is in it."
"WhAt?"
I was shocked. Nightmare shrugged.
"It's impossible for Ink to enter without my permission or Dream's help so I am going to guess he is a prisoner."
He hesitated again before speaking.
"You should head back. I can handle this myself."
"Are you sUre?"
"Yes. Go back Error before they realize you're gone."
Nightmare jumped into the portal before I could say anything else or stop him. I closed the portal and created another one to Under!Tale.
----------
"So they just left?"
Radix questioned.
"Yep. They hAd to go back."
Reaper crossed his arms over his chest and glared at me. I sheepishly smiled back. Reaper rolled his eyes.
"Forget it but you have to tell us everything later. Okay?"
"FiNe."
"Hey Error, wanna spar?"
Radix asked. I nodded my head and followed him to the gym. I wonder how much of a fight he'll put up this time now that his friends are watching him.
----------
When Dream landed in InkTale, he was greeted by a meeting gone wrong. Everyone was arguing and some were even getting physical. Dream sighed and summoned his bow. He aimed at Classic and carefully let the arrow fly. Classic froze when he felt the force of the arrow just barely missing him. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked around for the attacker that almost killed Classic.
"Dream?"
Color asked in disbelief. The other Sanses looked at Dream. They were shocked that he shot and barely missed Classic because he out of everyone was one of the more pacifist monsters. Dream leaned against a wall and glared at everyone.
"Are you guys done now? Where is Ink? I need to talk to him NOW!"
He asked but received no answer. Dream rolled his eyes and facepalmed.
"Fine. I'll look for him myself."
He left before the Sanses could stop him.
"What just happened?"
Fell asked. No one answered. Classic was uncomfortable with his near death experience, so he returned to UnderTale to rest. The other Sanses took that as a cue to leave as well. Soon InkTale became a desolate place. The crack in the wall from the arrow was the only evidence of the events that went down.
----------
Nightmare himself teleported back to his castle only to find his small gang surrounding Ink. Geno and Berry were the only ones who seemed pissed about him being here.
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GUYS DOING?"
Nightmare quickly returned to his corrupted form and spooked his gang, with the exceptions of Geno who just glared at Nightmare. Nothing scared him anymore. He died but came back as a fragment of his old self. Nightmare and the others do not scare him. Death himself does. Berry only flinched when he heard Nightmare yelling at them. Error use to spook him for fun by appearing out of nowhere when he used to live in the Anti Void. He wasn't expecting Nightmare though which is why he only flinched. Everyone else though summoned or unsheathed their weapons and got into their fighting stances. When they realized it was just Nightmare, they lowered their weapons and reluctantly unarmed themselves.
"SO WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? WHY IS INK HERE?"
Nightmare's gang shrugged and pointed to Cross who cursed under his breath.
"I brought him back to get some information about his current... state."
Nightmare didn't understand what he meant until he saw Ink's damaged skull and his right eye socket. Ink's dull Star eye changed to a bright red exclamation mark when he saw Nightmare approaching him.
"WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOU INK?"
Ink turned away from Nightmare, refusing to say anything. Dust growled in irritation.
"And this is what happens every single fucking time we ask him that. We did consider torturing him until Berry reminded us that he is the other side of the balance. If we kill him by accident or destroy his mental health, the multiverse would have an even lower chance of returning back to a stable state."
Killer took out his knife and started to play with it.
"So while it is nice to see you again..."
Killer paused to catch the knife that he threw.
"Where the fuck have you been?"
Nightmare came out of his corrupted state to the surprise of Ink.
"I talked to Error using Dream's help. Sure we almost died multiple times but we managed to convince him to come back. He never specified a date though. He just said he needed more time."
"So Error is still alive?"
Berry did not believe. He wanted to but he knew falling into the Void was a death sentence. But before Nightmare could tell him how Error survived, Ink spoke.
"Error is the one who gave me these injuries. Happy?"
Nightmare and his gang looked at Ink in disbelief.
"How?"
Geno asked. Ink sighed and gritted his teeth from the sudden pain coming from his skull.
"We fought in the Anti Void. He brought friends. I think you all can guess who won."
Nightmare lifted up his hand to silence his friends, knowing that they were about to bombard Ink with questions. He caught the pain in Ink's voice and was curious about it.
"What hurts?"
Nightmare asked Ink. Ink ignored him. He was tempted to have Cross bring Dream here but he didn't have to. He felt the positive aura and turned around to be greeted by his sibling. Dream had his bow out, the arrow aimed at Nightmare's chest.
"Seriously? We got back not even ten minutes ago and you have already kidnapped Ink. Why?"
Nightmare put his hands up hoping he could avoid a fight.
"Hey calm down Dream. I came back to this I swear."
Dream assessed Nightmare and reluctantly lowered his bow when he heard the truth in his brother's voice.
"You can take Ink back to wherever. He isn't talking and we don't want to fuck up the balance even more, right?"
His team nodded and dispersed, feeling confident that if Dream choose to attack Nightmare, he would not need their help to beat him."
Dream eyed his brother warily and helped Ink up to his feet. He glanced back at his brother.
"I'll see you around."
"Whatever. We need to talk later Dream."
Dream didn't reply. Instead, he created a portal and left Nightmare's realm with Ink in tow. Nightmare sighed and left the throne room. He has unfinished business to attend to now that he is back.
----------
"So... Error is leaving?"
"I guEsS. WhY do yOu carE anywAy?"
"You know why."
"... Do yOu thiNK we can eScaPe beFOre he leaVes?"
"Yep. I have a plan and it starts with Fresh!Tale."
