The next morning....

I wake up earlier than any of the other girls. Well... almost. Jo brings me an entire Dauntless cake!

"Happy unbirthday, Kat!" she whispers loudly.

I follow her to the chasm, where we sit and eat our Dauntless cake.

"We're slowly turning into Uriah," I mutter.

"Oh yeah!" Jo yells, "Uriah's pretty stupid."

"He once ran into a wall while talking about Dauntless cake."

"Oh yea!" Jo yells, "I just remembered. Today is visiting day.

Oh shit. "Yay." I say, trying to sound excited.

We finish our Dauntless cake, while talking about usual crap.

"VISITING DAY!" Four hollers.

Jo and I rush back to the dorms to join the others. The other initiates are so genuinely excited to see their families. We follow Four and the other initiates to the visiting room. I see everybody's parents there, except for mine.

I smile. That's the best part of today, and I'll make sure of it. If Marcus shows up I swear to god, I will skin that man alive. Or I should just kindly leave peacefully. Stupid conflicting sides of me! It makes me wanna vomit every time all the 5 parts of my head like to take a role in a decision. How can I make the other sides, but Dauntless, escape?

I feel a hand on my shoulder.

"Hey, Kat," Nathan says.

"Hey, Nathan," I say, "Where's your family?"

"Not here."

"Creep."

"Weirdo."

"Stiff."

"Ugly."

"Pathetic."

"Just stop!" I whisper loudly, "An insult battle? Seriously?"

"You started it!" Nathan yells.

"Let's just stop it now."

"Okay."

"So..." I ask, "Where is your family?"

"Not here."

"Where's the Pedrads?" I ask.

Nathan takes a quick eye scan of the room. "Probably eating cake."

"We didn't see them there this morning."

"Oh. I know what it is. Their relative went missing so they're trying to find him."

"Who?"

"I'm not sure."
