Starting Over

"C'mon in, Channie." She said opening the door for me and walking away. "To what do I owe this surprise visit?" She said jokingly.

"Aera was at my apartment earlier." I said sitting on her couch and putting my face in my hands.

"Why?" She said wrinkling up her nose in disgust.

"She's marrying him. Apparently, she felt the need to tell me." I mumbled bringing my head up.

"That was fast. Is she pregnant?" She was trying to make me laugh, it didn't work.

"I was going to ask her to marry me." I spat out, sitting back down and crossing my arms over my chest.

Luma didn't say anything at first, she just looked at me in disbelief. "Channie..."

"She was supposed to marry me. She was supposed to spend her life with me..."

Great, am I seriously crying about this again? How many times is this girl going to break my heart?

"I know this has been hard for you, but maybe this is for the best? At least you know they deserve each other. Brandon's not exactly a good guy, remember? I know he's your friend, but he treats his relationships like crap." She looked over at me.

"Was. He was my friend." I replied. "My whole personal life is in shambles. I don't even know how to fix this anymore." I said laying my head back against the couch.

"You need a date. A good date with a good girl. Even if it doesn't go anywhere." She suggested.

"It's been two weeks. The last thing I want to do is date. I hate dating." I whined throwing my self back into the couch. "Especially dating in Korea. Too many people know me here. Why do you think I've always dated Aussie girls?"

"Yes, yes. You're a serial monogomist. I know." She joked back. "But maybe a relationship that isn't long distance would be good for you."

"I don't think I can right now, Lu."

"I know a girl. She's super sweet. I think you might like her." She wiggled her eyebrows.

"Luma, seriously. The last thing I want to do right now is go on a date."

"Just one? I work with her, she's your type." She insisted.

"Oh yeah? And what exactly do you think my type is?"

"A good girl, loves her job, she's a nurse. So she'd take care of you. I know you have that motherly kink" She said poking me in the arm.

"Ow! And I don't have a kink, thanks." I said rubbing my arm. "I take care of seven other guys all the time, is it so bad to want to have someone take care of me for a change?"

"Well, I already told her you'd meet her for coffee next week, so humor me? Please?"

"Please tell me you're joking" I groaned.
The last thing I wanted right now was to go on a date. I hated dating in any country, but Korea was especially difficult. There were always cameras just around the corner waiting for a chance to get a picture. The few girls I had dated here told me I wasn't "korean enough". Whatever that was supposed to mean. I sighed loudly. I knew Luma wasn't going to just let this go.

"Fine. ONE date." She jumped off the couch and clapped her hands excitedly.

"YAY!" She did a dance in the living room.

"ONE, Luma" I said looking up at her doing a victory dance. "I'm not kidding. No more set ups after this. Please." I begged.

She leaned down and hugged me before running off to call this girl and let her know. "Promise!"
___
The next Friday I was sitting in a coffee shop down the street from my dorm. I sat there staring at the coffee I ordered.

Why did I agree to this? I should just go. I can tell Luma I forgot, and this girl won't know any different.

I had decided to leave when a girl walked in the coffee shop and looked around. Her cheeks were flushed from the warm weather outside and her hair flew up around her face as the door closed in slow motion behind her. My jaw dropped as she looked around the room and smiled at me before starting to walk over.

My god, she's gorgeous.

"Hi, I'm Nari" She smiled.

"Hey, I'm Chris."
