Chapter 3
First of all, it was needed for the barrier to be removed so that we could enter and carry out the rest of the plan. So, Hope went forward and started incanting, Samen verteilen. At first, the barrier didn't even budge and so Hope put out her hand towards me and gestured to help her out in putting out the barrier. And so, I held her hand and we both started to incant, Samen verteilen. Thereafter, the barrier disappeared. Hope instructed all of us to stay alert as the caster of the barrier spell would now know that there were intruders inside the warehouse.
We all nodded and then entered the warehouse.
As I had seen in the glimpses, the warehouse was indeed dark, gloomy and damp. The atmosphere inside was not at all to my liking but since we were needed to complete the rescue mission, I could only sigh and move forward. The area was too dark for us to see so Hope made use of another incantation, Lumiere. This spell enabled the caster to create an artificial source of light by focusing the magic around us in a spherical white ball like structure. There were many rooms in the warehouse according to my vision and so, Hope gestured me and Prof. A to look upstairs while she along with Prof. S would check out the ground floor. We all nodded and headed out.
The stairs to the first floor were, to be specific, rusted. So, it was dangerous to climb up in a rush and moreover, there was so much noise from the sound of footfall upon the stairs that I was afraid we might have alerted the enemy already. But still, we had to keep on moving. When we finally reached the first floor, I let out a sigh of relief and gestured Prof. A to go towards the left direction, he nodded and went on. And I headed to check out the rooms in the right. So as to facilitate my search, I used an incantation in order to strengthen both my hearing ability as well as eyesight. At first, there was not even a single soul that could be noticed on sight and so I went a bit deeper into the location and suddenly, I heard a loud thud.
I quickly ran towards the direction and I could see a dark silhouette at the corner of the wall and as I approached, suddenly, a knife was placed on my neck. So, I slowly walked towards the back so as to not get injured even before the rescue mission's completion. But then, I noticed that the one who had placed a knife on my neck was not someone with an intent to kill or something. But it was just a little girl, a frightened one at that. After noticing her trembling hands, I lowered my guard just a little in order to assure that I was not among the bad guys. And so I crouched down and looked into her eyes and smiled. She seemed a bit perplexed at first but then slowly she lowered the knife and remarked in a smug tone,
Only an idiot would have lowered their guard in front of a knife so I spare you as I think you're not the bad guy who took my brother.
Even though she had a sharp tongue, she was just a smal girl with a knife on hand. So I just gently smiled and thanked her. There was a moment of silence, but without any delay I pulled her hand and we both hid behind the pillars and I asked her about the situation that was going on inside the warehouse. She told me that a group of grownups had been going on kidnapping children along with those who seemed the same age as me, and then locked them up in the rooms inside the warehouse. They were given food to sustain atleast so Lily, as she told me her name, was kind of not too scared and since she was with her brother too. But then one day, the group started to drag out some of the kids, both the younger ones and the older ones, somewhere. But then the kids never returned. And then among the ones who were dragged away, there was the brother of Lily. So, she was out there, in order to search for her brother.
After hearing the entire story, I could make out most of the information. The kids who were kidnapped might have been supernatural who had yet to realise. And these people were trying to make use of them for their selfish purposes.
But according to our intel, only two were supernaturals so I needed to now enquire about the reason for the kidnapping of the others. I texted Hope about the situation that was going on and was about to head out when, Lily slightly pulled my shirt. We were informed by Prof. to not engage with the non-believers but how could I just leave behind a little girl with trembling hands and so I again crouched down and caught her tiny hands and told her,
Lily, I will surely save your brother and protect both of you, so don't worry. You just need to find a place to hide and then sit tight and I will come to rescue you. Okay?
At this, she nodded and I searched for a safe place to let her stay hidden. And I stroked her hair a bit and hugged her to calm her down and after leaving the room, I put up a barrier spell so that she stays safe. And so, I was ready to head out for our main mission, that is, to rescue the supernaturals. But one thing was for sure, that something dreadful was really going on inside the warehouse. And we needed to uncover it a bit faster.
With a sense of confidence in me, I felt that I could succeed in this mission without any major incidents but I didn't know that I would come to regret this thought on a later time, when instead of being successful, we were to be put on a bind.
