Chapter 19
AN: Yay for angst
When Mary came in with a knife, followed by Colin with a rope, Katherine knew things were getting worse.
But, no matter how hopeless she felt, and no matter how much she'd already gone through, she refused to let anyone touch her with a knife. She immediately curled up into herself, watching the two of them carefully.
"Looks like someone actually has a fighting spirit today." Mary glanced at at Colin with a smile. "We're gonna need that rope."
No matter how much she struggled, Colin was stronger than her (though that wasn't saying much, considering the state she was currently in, Les would probably be stronger than her), and he very quickly got the rope around her arms and legs.
Mary came towards her with the knife, and at the last second, Katherine jerked out of Colin's grasp and grabbed the blade, flinging it across the floor. She grimaced as it cut her hand in the process, unfortunately without cutting the rope that tied her hands together, but it was still better than wherever Mary was aiming for.
She glared her captors, and Mary let out a noise that sounded almost like a growl.
"I didn't need to deal with this today, you brat. Why couldn't you be all quiet and submissive like normal?"
Katherine didn't answer - she almost never said anything to them - and just continued to glare at them.
Mary let out a cry of frustration and grabbed Katherine's hand that had been cut, and squeezed it tightly. She grit her teeth and tried not to make any noise, but she couldn't help but cry out in pain. Mary gave her hand one last squeeze before letting it drop abruptly.
"Hopefully that'll calm you down." She muttered, and looked at Colin.
"C'mon, let's go, we got better things to do."
Katherine watched them leave, wondering vaguely if the two of them were a couple.
She sighed, looking around the shed to see if there was any sort of new bug or rat that could be of any entertainment, when she something that gave her the first glimmer of hope she'd had since she'd gotten there.
They'd left the knife.
She gathered up energy that she didn't know she had and quickly crawled over to it, carefully maneuvering it to the ropes and began to cut them.
Almost twenty minutes later, Katherine had finally freed her wrists and ankles, she slowly made her way over to the door and pulled herself up by the doorknob, wincing at the wounds that were being agitated by her standing position, but ignoring it.
She remembered something Jack had told her once how to unlock a door with a knife. At the time she didn't know how he knew that or why he told her, but now she couldn't be more grateful that he did.
She quickly forced the knife in between the lock and the frame, and her heart soared as she got the door unlocked and it swung open. She took a deep breath of the fresh air, and she was about to take off running when Colin appeared.
Her mind raced for a moment before she decided to start running anyway, but she didn't get very far before Colin tackled her to the ground, and she felt tears forming in her eyes, and not just because of how much it hurt.
But because she had just lost what seemed like her only chance of escape.
