How do I help?
This is based off a chapter of Suicide Boy. I read it on MangaGo, I don't know where else to find it.
Warning: Self Harm
My name is Maki. I'm a normal 15 year old girl. I'm the class president and I also score the highest in tests. I do extremely well academically, but no so well with human relationships. I study hard because I want a comfortable and secure life in the future. I'm planning on becoming a lawyer, or a doctor, I want a well earning profession. So, I try to not to meddle with the wrong crowds.
Takara (Takara the Orca!) is one of my classmate. I have to sit next to her, it's torture. She has short black hair that covers her face often. A lot of the time, she has plasters all over her face, bruises on her wrists and neck, and always wears a bandage around her left forearm. She's that kind of person who doesn't fight back against the bullies. I hate those kinds of people. They can't stand up for themselves. They're showing the bullies that they can be picked on, that they are weak. I'd punch someone in the face if they tried to talk me down.
My opinion on Takara has changed a little... maybe more than a little.
It was lunchtime. I had run into the bathroom and locked myself in the stall, sitting on the closed toilet seat. I had gotten less than 90% on the latest test. Everyone was rooting for me, parents, students, even teachers. What was I going to tell my parents and my teachers, 'Your girl doesn't live up to your expectations'? I put my head in my hands, tears threatening to leave my eyes. They've worked hard to make me smart. I have to return the favour by using that knowledge they gave me in tests and getting high marks. What am I supposed to say to the class, we were known for having one of the smartest people in the year, "I just couldn't think straight that day." That's a ridiculous excuse-
I heard sounds. There was someone in the stall next to me. They were breathing heavily. Along with the heavy breathing, I heard crying. They were obviously trying to keep quiet (they were not doing well at it), but little gasps still escaped their mouth. The toilet seat was closed due to the sound of ceramic against ceramic. They were shaking. I couldn't really tell what they were doing. Were they in.... pain? I wiped my tears and slowed my own breathing. Pulling out a small mirror, I checked my face to see if my eyes were red and swollen. They weren't swollen, but they were a little red.
I left the stall and knocked on the other stall. The breathing became quieter, the shaking stopped, and the crying seemed to have stopped. I hear fabric, then the door opens. Takara is standing there, peeking from behind the door. Her eyes were swollen and red. Her chest was still rising and lowering fast.
"You ok?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. She nods, blue eyes closing slowly, before popping open again. I notice her pencil case open on the floor. I couldn't really see what was inside. I turn away, and walk out of the bathroom. I really wonder what was wrong?
Next day at school
I was sitting at my desk, waiting for the teacher to come in and quietly working in a French workbook. Takara was sitting next to me, head lying on her arms on the table. She had looked sleepy all day, and she had dark circles underneath her eyes. Was she sleeping well? I decided not to disturb her
"Shit." I said as I realised that I was missing my pen. It was the only one I had at the time. I'm so unprepared. I desperately needed one, so I tapped Takara on the shoulder. She sat up, sad eyes looking at me through a straight curtain of hair. "Can I please borrow a pen?" She pushes her pencil case that was already in the table towards me, seeming too lazy to get one for me herself. I opened the pencil case, scouring through. You lazy ass- I froze, the sound of moving pencils halting. She had a box cutter in her pencil case, I recognised it by the way it looked. Why would she have one though? We have scissors and all that at school. Surely she wouldn't mind if I.... I looked to my side, Takara was still resting her head on the table.
Takara's POV
After lessons, Lily and her group came to me, grabbing my hair and pulling my head up to face her. Her blond hair, green eyes and shitty personality made her very popular with boys and girls. I don't get how
"Give me your PE kit." She snarled.
"Naomi never gave it back." I whimpered
"And?"
"I don't have it". Lily's hand flew across my cheek. I didn't try fight back, it was no use really.
"Get it back for us soon." She pointed her purple painted nail at my face before strutting off, grabbing the attention of nearby boys in her short red skirt and black top as she walked away from me. I grabbed my pencil case, rushing to the bathroom. I sat on the closed seat, slowly unwrapping the tight bandage around my left forearm. Scars ran everywhere, scattered in no order. I opened my pencil case, pulling out my box cutter. I slid it open, and looked at it.
"Where's the blade?"
Maki's POV
I sat at my dark, head in hands. Takara's blade lying g on the table in front of me. "Is this how I can help her?"
I'm finishing this story at 1am, I shouldn't be up right now. I feel like this just seems wrong. I might edit it later after publishing it. Please check out Suicide Boy, so far, it's really good. It addresses the topic of self harm and suicide, so if you're not comfortable with that, don't read Suicide Boy. Hope you liked it , take care 💜💜💜
